The bullet hit the dummy in a swift move, and the explosion erupting from it was just as fast.
The air twisted as flames shot up, smoke swirling around and rising upwards like a stem before forming a cap.
Heat rippled through the air, and everyone was beyond amazed.
This was truly some skill, and to think they had all just started practicing their techniques.
"That's good..." Susan walked towards her student. "But there are some flaws, and I'm sure that's because you haven't truly grasped the essence of your own technique." She advised him, her hands resting on her waist.
Hearing the comment, the teenager nodded his head. "I only started practicing yesterday," he confessed.
Susan slightly nodded, but deep down she was shaken.
Are there new monsters coming up in this generation?
When she got her first technique, it had taken her almost a month to practice it, and even then her master wasn't pleased with her progress.
But now this teenager was here saying he could learn this thing in less than a week?
"That's impressive, and I'm sure you can do better. Rather than using the natural flow of Hana, why don't you try using your own internal energy?" Susan advised.
Peter looked at his hand and raised a brow. "I don't think my internal Hana energy would be enough for such a move," he answered.
Susan slowly nodded her head. "You are right, but there's something I noticed. Your technique wasn't supposed to turn into a ball of fire the first time, right?" she asked him with a smile.
"Yes Ma."
"Alright. The reason it did was because natural Hana is much too chaotic to be easily controlled, especially if you just started learning your techniques. So the best route to go through is powering the technique from your strength." She raised her head to look at her student, and her eyes landed on Reith.
Then she continued, "To increase the strength of that technique, you need to focus on increasing the strength of your personal Hana reserve. Is that clear?"
Her words were directed to all students, and they answered her with a loud yell.
Reith stepped into the crowd; he was very much interested in what was going on, especially the new display of power.
The only person he had truly seen use a technique was Haze, and it was something disastrous that he didn't want to see again.
Peter thanked Susan for her advice and walked back into the crowd of students, and that was when he spotted Reith.
"Where have you been? You vanished..." Peter gave him a slap on the back, causing Reith to wince.
When Reith didn't say anything, Isho spoke up. "He got himself into the hospital."
"That incident? Or something else?" Peter asked, and they all knew what he was talking about.
"Don't worry about it." Reith waved the conversation aside. "I'm back now, and that's all that matters," he said.
However, Isho didn't plan to stop. "Yes, the incident."
Reith glared at him, but he turned his face away.
Not knowing what was going on between these two, Peter chose not to push the issue forward so he wouldn't offend the teacher, at least.
"By the way, Peter, how did you learn to do that?" Reith asked.
"The technique?"
"Yeah, that was stunning," Reith complimented, nodding his head. He had tried to grasp the concept of what Peter was doing, but he still couldn't get it.
"Well, it's called The Flaming Bullet. Because of my cultivation path, I gained an affinity to the fire element, so it works perfectly well with me." Peter answered, flashing a ring on his hand.
In that moment, Reith felt a buzz within his shirt, and he sensed it was from his book, so he planned to check it later.
"That's a good one," Reith complimented, causing Peter to grin.
"What about you... have you gotten a technique yet?"
Isho turned his attention to Reith, as he wanted to know the answer also.
"Yeah... it was sort of a gift, so it's not exactly what I want," Reith replied, and he instantly moved away from their company.
There were other students trying their techniques, and somehow Reith wanted to see them all.
It was some kind of urge, or maybe he just enjoyed the thrill that came with a power display.
A girl stepped forward, her long dark hair cascading down her back.
She raised her hand, and an ice crystal bead bracelet flashed on her wrist.
"You may begin, Terra," Susan called, and then the students went into an uproar.
"Go Terra!"
"You can do this!"
Terra was a prodigy, so everyone had high hopes for her.
She was known to be affiliated with the school's strongest student, so it went without saying that she was strong herself.
Terra activated her technique, and an ice covering spread over the area where she stood.
"Move back, students." Susan pointed to those behind Terra, and they moved out of the way quickly.
Suddenly, the temperature dropped, and the students clenched their teeth, hugging their bodies to generate warmth.
Susan let out a smile. Her new students were simply exceptional, and with this, she might even tower over her colleagues.
Especially if these students win the upcoming Mock Final Selection.
It would be exhilarating.
Three shards of ice formed around Terra, and they began to solidify.
At the clenching of her fist, Terra's ice thickened, and they moved forward with a speed that surpassed Peter's fire bullets.
The wind generated blew many hats into the air, and gowns went up.
Each of the shards landed directly on different parts of the dummy's body, and ice spread from the shards to the body of the target, leaving everyone shocked.
Susan stood still for a while before she took a long look at her student.
"Incredible, Terra! Simply incredible. That's why you are one of my best." Susan chuckled loudly, pulling her student into a hug.
The remaining students cheered. Terra truly proved that she was a queen! The ice queen.
Reith nodded his head, and his eyes zoomed in on the bracelet around her wrist.
"That has to be an S-grade Cultivation Path Emblem."
