The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 302- Surrounded From The Skies

As they were travelling with not just the knights this time, the order could not leave at the crack of dawn and had to wait for the King and Queen and their entourage to wake up.

And so, by the time they began their journey again, it was already past 9 o'clock. Nevertheless, after five days of travelling, the knights got used to the convoy's timing and made up for the time lost during the travel.

By the time it was high noon, they had arrived at their destination, or so was the plan. However, an unexpected incident caused a delay, leading the convoy to halt in its place.

"Your Majesties, please stay behind me." Reinhardt stood in front of the King and Queen and looked towards the sky.

The incident that caused their convoy to stop at their place was at this moment flying through the skies, circling them and watching their every action.

The forequarters of a giant eagle and cruel looking beaks that could puncture a hole even in tempered steel, the creature's bright orange eyes shone with cunning lights.

"Ohh!! Gryffons. Gwen, Senior Vangeance look!!"

At one corner of the convoy, Kevin pointed at the magnificent creatures flying in the sky with glittering eyes.

Having seen the magnificent fight during the exhibition match held in the capital, where their own Holy Knight, Dame Zerina, faced against the vice commander of the Black Gryffin Legion, he had completely become a fan of gryffins and was even mentally imagining himself taming and riding on a gryffin one day.

"You don't need to shout, we can see them too. And besides, they are not gryffins but Hippogriffs." Vangeance corrected.

"Eh? What's the difference?" Kevin asked.

"Look at their hindquarters. Where a gryffin has the body of a lion, the hippogriff has the lower body of a horse."

The one to explain things for the squire was Delicia. As a former knight, she had her fair share of battling monsters, and a hippogriff was one of them.

"Oh, I see, then can I not tame these beasts and fly on top of them?"

"Forget about it. Hippogriffs are not monsters that can be tamed. While they are cunning and social monsters, they are in the end, still ruled by their instincts. Unlike gryffins, who are regarded as the rulers of the skies and possess extreme intelligence and can understand humans to some extent, Hippogriffs are just plain monsters. If you try to tame them, you will end up in their stomach in numerous pieces."

Silivia pointed out. Then, in a mischievous manner, she decided to scare the boy. "By the way, do you know what their rank is?"

Kevin shook his head.

"Heh, a full grown adult Hippogriff is considered an [A] rank monsters; some deviants can even reach [A+]. That is to say, squires like you are no match for them. Look at their talons, not only are they razor sharp, but they also contain lethal poison"...

"It is through these and several other skills of theirs that they hunt for their prey. And right now, they have their eyes on us".

.

Back in front of the carriage that carried the King and Queen.

"They are simply circling us without attacking," The queen spoke, looking at the herd of monsters currently circling above them. "What were they called again?"

Reinhardt answered, "They are called Hippogriffs and are different from the griffin Your Majesty is thinking of. As they possess exceptional vision, hearing, and smell, they are currently scouting us and looking for any opening in our lineup"...

"Despite their monster like nature, these creatures are quite perceptive. Just like how we are wary of them, they too are of us. That said, once they spot a weakness, they will attack".

Hearing his explanation, the two looked quite worried. If these creatures are so powerful, then will they be alright? Right now, in the sky circling their convoy was not just one or two of these creatures but an entire horde.

At a glance, there were more than ten. If all these beasts attacked, would the knight order be able to defeat them?

As non warrior they were, of course, largely oblivious of how the level system works and the strength that each level up brings, which is why they were doubting the strength of the knights.

It was just in human nature to think that something which has ominous and terrifying aspects is stronger.

"Reinhardt, do something. Aren't you a level 10 hero, beings who are the strongest amongst the knights?" The king ordered a little panicked.

"Your Majesty, please rest assured, with me standing guard, there isn't a single being who can hurt you. Besides, my comrades are already at it. We don't need numbers, that's for monsters," Reinhardt assured and then raised a single finger.

"Only one Holy Knight is enough to finish all of them in an instant".

Right as his words fell, from the frontline a loud boom echoed out, followed by a shadow of a figure shooting towards the sky.

Like a cannonball, the figure swiftly approached the flying hippogriffs, and within seconds, he was at the same elevation level as the monsters.

"Yo, beasts of wing and hoof. You are so ugly that I have seen poultry who are far more better looking than ya all."

With swag and spunk oozing off the man like he was breathing it out, the knight that cut a dashing figure was none other than one of the level 8 holy knights of the order of the Temple of Light, Marcus.

He looked at the hippogriffs and, with the aura of a scoundrel that couldn't be suppressed even when he tried to, he taunted the monsters.

These perceptive creatures, while not too intelligent, knew when they were being slighted. Angry at the comment of the human, they issued a piercing cry and charged towards the latter.

Facing their attack head on, Marcus picked his ears. "If this is your way of intimidating me, then I suggest you rehearse. It sounds more like a mating call from a dying rooster. Well, I guess what can I even expect from my dinner with wings?".
