Chapter 135: Mysterious Egg

[Congratulations! You have received: Mysterious Egg]

I maintained my composure during the conversation with my mother, though internally my attention had completely shifted to the notification. The reward description was intriguing enough that I needed to examine it privately as soon as possible.

"Mother, I think I'll retire to my room for a bit," I said casually after we finished reviewing the week's accounts. "I want to go through some academy materials I brought with me."

"Of course, dear. I'll be in the solarium if you need anything."

I made my way quickly to my guest chambers and closed the door, activating the privacy wards before summoning the reward from my system space.

What materialized in my hands made my eyes widen considerably.

The egg was approximately the size of a melon, its surface displaying a mesmerizing array of colours that shifted and swirled as I rotated it. Deep purples blended into vibrant crimsons, which transitioned into brilliant golds and oceanic blues. The patterns weren't static, they moved across the shell like living aurora lights, creating hypnotic displays that suggested powerful magic contained within.

I quickly accessed the detailed information:

[Mysterious Egg]

Rank: King]

[Details: Mysterious egg of an unknown species containing a beast that can reach King rank at maturity.]

My heart raced as the implications sank in. King rank, two full tiers above where my father currently stood. Beasts that could achieve King rank were really powerful creatures, the kind that could reshape battlefields and influence the fate of entire kingdoms. They were all intelligent and some had the trait of talking once they reached a high rank.

The egg felt warm to the touch, and I could sense faint life energy pulsing within. Whatever creature was developing inside was already alive, just waiting for the right conditions to hatch.

I examined the shell more closely, noting intricate patterns that might indicate the species type. The color combinations suggested possible elemental affinities - the crimson and gold might indicate fire or light attributes, while the purple and blue could suggest storm or shadow elements. Without more information, identifying the exact species was impossible.

Questions flooded my mind. What did it need to hatch? How long would the incubation period last? What kind of care would the hatchling require? And most critically - could I trust a King-rank beast to remain loyal once it reached its full potential?

The daily reward system had just provided something that could fundamentally alter my long-term power trajectory. A King-rank companion would be invaluable for the conflicts I knew were coming, assuming I could successfully raise and bond with whatever emerged from this spectacular egg.

I carefully returned it to my system space, my mind already racing through the logistics of managing such a powerful acquisition while maintaining secrecy about its existence.

But first, I needed to understand the hatching requirements.

I retrieved the egg again and examined it from every angle, searching for clues about what conditions might trigger the incubation process. The warm surface suggested it might require heat, but how much? The swirling colors could indicate elemental affinity needs, but which elements specifically?

I tried channeling small amounts of mana into the shell, watching for any reaction. Nothing changed. I attempted blood manipulation, wondering if a blood bond was required for hatching. Still no response.

Then, nearly an hour of my time was spent attempting various approaches - exposing it to different temperatures, trying various enchantment activation phrases, even speaking to it directly in case it responded to verbal commands.

Nothing worked.

Finally, I had to accept that the egg would hatch according to its own timeline and requirements, whatever those might be. Forcing the process could damage the creature inside.

With a sigh, I returned it to my system space once more. Patience would be required.

While the reward was undeniably powerful, it provided no immediate benefits for my current situation. I wasn't foolish enough to measure value solely by instant utility, a King-rank beast companion would be really powerful once matured, but in the short term, the egg was essentially an investment rather than a power boost.

The rest of the day was spent productively in combat training with the estate's guards and Kael. My father's departure had left several Transcendent-rank guards behind to maintain estate security, and I decided to test myself against their capabilities.

The sparring session drew quite an audience as word spread through the garrison that the young master was challenging Transcendent opponents.

"Your footwork has improved dramatically, young master," remarked Captain Deren, one of the senior guards who had served my family for decades. "I remember when you could barely hold a proper stance. Now you're forcing me to concentrate."

CLASH!

I engaged him with full blood enhancement active, my blade meeting his with strength that clearly surprised him. His eyebrows rose as I pushed through his defensive guard.

"That enhancement technique..." another guard observed from the sidelines. "It's bridging the entire rank gap. I've never seen anything like it."

"The young master's combat power rivals our own," Another senior guard added with obvious respect. "At Elite rank, no less. Imagine what he'll be capable of once he advances to Transcendent. He will be able to face commander level threats!"

A smile formed on my face hearing his words, but I didn't take them seriously. I knew that the higher the rank the higher the gap between them. Whilst I was doing was really impressive, it wasn't unheard of, the modt takented in the history of the kingdom were able to do so at the peak of elite rank.

I demonstrated the Light Steps technique I'd been practicing, the Royal-rank footwork allowing me to outmaneuver Deren's counterattacks. His expression showed genuine approval.

"You've been training your footwork really well," he concluded after our exchange. "The fluidity and precision aren't something you develop through basic drills alone."

After sparring the senior guards, I joined the normal trainning session. Honing my swordsmanship skills, footwork, and helping Kael too.
