Peng Du walked through the snowcapped mountains of his home. Marching away from everything he had built under the orders of a second Calamity that had snuck into this plane of existence unnoticed. Finding him first and forcing him to kneel unless he wanted all his loved ones dead.
Now he wandered in search for the other Calamity.
Tasked with summoning her the moment Peng Du noticed who it was and where they were currently in the world. Mostly because the fox tailed demoness was too lazy to do the search herself or so she said. Lazying about in his seat of power and forcing all his people to serve her like slaves. Running back and forth to fulfil all her commands.
Yet, Peng Du had other suspicions. Thoughts he could not get out of his head with every new iota of information he would pick up on.
Many assumed him a brute. Many more learned only after that no being ever reached his power without being able to reach enlightenment and carry wisdom within their future. He was once nothing more than a fool that sought isolation and battle. Nothing else.
No women and children.
No peace and learning to cultivate in the calmness of seclusion.
There had been nothing but the march of war and battle. Searching for the greatest men and women of his generation to prove that he was beyond them all. Only two men ever stood a chance. Both lost to him. Zi Zhen and Zhong An were mighty rivals, but not anymore. Not since nearly four centuries ago after he secluded himself to find a new truth when no new challengers appeared before him for a time he could not bear.
So he searched for something else. Something new. Something he thought he had found and would protect from the dangers of the world since he had practically had dominion over the world without a second being willing to challenge his throne.
Now everything was on the precipice. Almost ripped away from him by a she bitch that was too afraid to search for this other Calamity on her own.
Yes. He fully believed it too.
He could smell the terror from her. The tremble in her limbs as her head snapped to look in the distance. The sweat that dripped from her forehead and quivering lips. She was stunned silent for some time, unable to respond to him or anyone else as she kept watching for three whole days.
All of her bluster and arrogance seemed to vanish after that.
She had claimed to find this second Calamity to destroy it where it stood. Obliterate its existence without much worry because she was an empress of a sect in another realm entirely. Full of Immortals that could ruin this world alone. Thousands upon thousands and she was near the pinnacle with only a few individuals stronger than her.
The fox lady had laughed when Peng Du had claimed doubt. He did not feel the same heart wrenching fear that gripped him from her as he did when the true Calamity befell the world. On a sunny day. He recalled the fabric of the world as they knew it was ripped open by claws that dwarfed anything he could have imagined.

Six monsters entered their realm because this was where they desired to be. Not because of an opportunity they were quick to take advantage of. Each as strong if not stronger than the fox lady alone. Mountainous in size and ridiculous in power.
Then he witnessed all fucking six drop their heads low.
The dragons trembled before their master as he and all the living powers in this world did to them. Power beyond anything he could imagine dropped amongst them. Asleep and not even attempting to ruin their cultivations just by existing, yet it did.
Peng Du remembered his own core nearly shattering back then.
He remembered how his Dao stubbornly waged war against the universe and all it could send at him hid and made itself small within his soulspace. His natal palace still recovering to this day. Only his domain had truly come to its former glory. But he kept the lie going.
Mostly because Zhong An, Su Qui, and even Zi Zhen all arrived before his doorsteps.
A long discussion passed through them after the ten year mark of the Calamity's descent into their world. One that lasted three months between them without any interruptions. Brawls nearly broke out a dozen times in that time.
None of them like the other.
It had been agreed to continue this farce. Let the world and everything within it believe it had a chance. Letting the masses know that they had no chance to survive was not something any of them thought wise. It would only lead to chaos and a lack of attempting to strive for greatness.
For all they knew, the Calamity might not end up killing them all.
Or so Zi Zhen believed.
Peng Du doubted it. Now more than ever that he met the fox-tailed lady. Her claims that their annihilation was business and not anything more had stuck with him.
"…business of the powerful to grow more powerful."
He would find Zi Zhen and the others and see their thoughts. Peng Du had a sneaking suspicion that the Calamities had a desire to find something to do something on their planet that empowered them. Whatever it was, it was enough to turn them against each other within seconds of knowing the other existed—
Peng Du jumped off the snowy cliff. He felt his body hurtle through the air as it fell hundreds of meters down from the very peak of his mountain. The wind slapped at him, a blizzard blinded him, but he did not feel anything at all.
He landed in a shattering. Crushing the ground beneath him, making the stone and boulders around explode from pure Qi coalescing beneath his feet. It was the quickest way down without having to travel for an entire year through looping through the mazes that led to his home.
Peng Du shrugged off the dirt, stones, and snow of himself.
—They needed to figure out what it was and why. Maybe they could take advantage of that power themselves to finally break through and transcend into the next realm. Protect their loved ones from another realm entirely.
Yet, why did it require killing everyone?
Why would the other Calamity summon a competitor?
If the fox-tailed lady was to be believed, then it was a clear and obvious invitation for another person to arrive…
Peng Du stopped in his tracks. Eyes widening as everything started to click at the same time. Nothing that boded well for them if it was true. The rest would be shocked. Zi Zhen could finally shut the fuck up about the Calamity not desiring their deaths and that it had another purpose.
The answer to why she had been invited was quite simple.
From former war waging, battle addicted monster to another current one, Peng Du could not help but find the Calamity to be a kindred spirit.
It had brought the lady because it was disappointed in this realm's power. Lusting for a battle it could enjoy. A burning desire to test itself against other monsters, the only reason it had not attacked was because the fox-tailed lady was too weak!
The true Calamity had hoped for something stronger!
Something that it would struggle against and not kill within seconds of finding the other. Giving her a chance to power up and grow more powerful so that it may satiate its lust for battle! That had to be it. Peng Du could not imagine something else. Not when everything perfectly lined up to be exactly this.
He wasn't sure if that was better or worse.
At the very least, they'd have an ascendant immortal on their side when the final battle arrived.
