Chapter 582: Being An Ass
“What do you mean?” Anastasia acted oblivious. “The trial is what is written in your system. You’ve completed it, so just calm down.”
“Then why’s Lucien still going at it?” Rael asked with a smile. “Could it be that there’s some hidden condition, hm?”
In truth, he was just fucking around. While some things were different from what he saw in the Prophetic Realm, this event here likely remained the same.
If Lucien were to judge 25 people, then he would get a hint about what the next trial could be. Not only that, he would get a head start in the next trial.
Rael couldn’t really care less about the hint since he already knew what would happen. Lucien also likely knew because the examiner was literally his mother.
The head start, however, was a bit of a problem.
The next trial is physical, and while I do have a big advantage because of my Prophetic Realm, any second counts, especially when Lucien’s so strong.
So while he pretended to act oblivious, Rael decided to whip out a bit of his past nature.
“So how is it? Marriage, I mean.” Rael chuckled. “It’s a wonderful thing, except I don’t have kids yet.”
Mentioning Uriel and Lilith was like kicking himself in the balls, so he’d refrain from that.
“What are you getting at?” Anastasia asked coldly. “Are you trying to poke fun at me?”
“Maybe I’m just offering some warmth,” Rael replied innocently, meeting her gaze. “After all, even with a heart as tough as yours, you can’t escape loneliness.”
Her mana spiked, and for a moment, he felt like his throat was being crushed. However, that sensation didn’t last long as Anastasia soon regained her composure, shooting him yet another cold side-eye.
“Know your place.”
Rael chuckled, stepping forward, and with his back turned to her, he said, “Well, if you ever feel like warming someone else’s bed other than your husband’s, you know who to call.”
His foresight triggered instantly, showing his head being blown off.
Rael waited for the perfect moment, then tilted his head, avoiding the punch that killed nearly ten prisoners behind him. Yet he didn’t stop there as he moved in, gripped Anastasia’s neck, then cast his Time Domain and infused it with the Law of Plasma and Law of Destruction.
Her skin began to char, but before he could do any irreparable damage, she grabbed his hand and tore it clean off his shoulder before tossing it into the corner of the room and staring at him coldly.
Rael didn’t even budge as, with a single beat of his heart, his arm regenerated.
At the same time, the minor injury he inflicted on her healed as well, and just like that, the two stared at each other, their bodies completely unscathed, except Rael’s clothes were slightly ripped.
But now, there was a certain air around them. There was malice, but also surprise.
Nonetheless, after that small exchange just now, neither of them went in for round two. Rael, because he would get his shit rocked, and Anastasia, because she found this little quarrel amusing enough not to kill him just yet. Or perhaps she couldn’t kill him because he was a Hollow Throne candidate.
Still, he also knew full well that he didn’t capture her heart or anything, since while her emotions were mainly a mystery, he could pick out affection, and she had none of that.
Though he wasn’t really trying to woo her, all he wanted to do was piss her off so she couldn’t see him turning the prisoners braindead.
And so, after pulling that little stunt, Rael went back to standing beside her and watching Lucien go up to each of the prisoners and try to talk to them.
However, all he managed to do was talk to a few drooling husks. When he finally realized what happened, he calmly walked toward Anastasia and shook his head.
“I’m afraid that’s the most I can do.”
“Hmm?” Anastasia frowned. “There’s still enough left. Go on and do what you have to do. Remember?”
“Their ego has been obliterated already, Mother,” Lucien replied plainly, giving a subtle glance to Rael.
Anastasia spotted that, and with a furious expression, she turned toward Rael.
“How dare you go behind my back?” The source of this content ɪs novęlfire.net
“Is that what I did?” Rael raised a brow. “Pardon my tardiness, but aren’t you a Grade 8? Shouldn’t you be able to tell when someone does something behind your back?”
Before she could answer, he continued:
“In this case, how could I have done something when I was right beside you?” He crossed his arms, feigning injustice. “I didn’t do it.”
Clearly, they didn’t believe him, and even after Anastasia closed her eyes, trying to feel the mana in the air, she didn’t manage to spot anything.
And that was because he didn’t exactly put his plan into place just now, but way before.
To be exact, the moment he stepped into this room, Rael jumbled up the brains of every single prisoner present.
It was like a finely organized thread… and even a single particle of mana would be enough to disrupt it.
And that was where Anastasia’s mana-infused punch came into play, disorienting the threads of every single prisoner and turning them braindead.
If anything, she was the one to blame for underestimating him.
So after just a few minutes of her trying to find some concrete proof, she stopped, realizing it was hopeless.
“Ugh… Very well…” Anastasia muttered, flicking her fingers.
<Ding!>
<Congratulations, you have passed the Second Trial.>
<Next trial in…>
<1 hour.>
Oh? It was five hours in the Prophetic Realm. It’s really changing now. Might have to be a little more careful moving forward. Rael mused, and as he was about to return to trying to piss Anastasia off, he realized she had already vanished.
But Lucien was still there, staring at him.
“Do I have something on my face?” Rael asked, puzzled.
“It was a neat trick,” Lucien commended. “However, you should watch your back in the next trial. You never know when you might get hurt.”
Wow… He sounds like some high school bully. Rael held back a laugh and gave Lucien a thumbs up.
“Yep. Good luck to you too. Give my regards to your mother as well while you’re at it,” Rael added.
For the first time since meeting Lucien, he saw a trace of dissatisfaction in his expression, but it quickly vanished as he simply smiled and walked out of the room.
A few minutes later, Rael followed. Since he had an hour to kill, he’d best get in touch with Zafira and Lilith.
