Chapter 353: Let’s Get Married, Again
[What are you talking about? Don’t you know your senior brother?] the Empress asked.
|| What’s that? || Li Yao asked, confusion in her voice.
[You don’t know Xiang Yu?] the Empress asked again.
Li Yao was about to finish off Tianling but paused, her sword raised midway.
|| Xiang Yu? Senior brother? || she murmured softly. || Senior brother is… || Her voice suddenly wavered, growing uncertain. || Senior brother? No way… he… he… he doesn’t exist. ||
Suddenly, her eyes lost their bright glow and she returned to her complete form. She clutched her head and dropped to her knees. “No way…” she whispered, then started mumbling words that made no sense.
Tianling saw this chance and decided to use it to recover. Dark tentacles sprouted from her upper half and reached desperately for her severed lower body.
But just as they were about to reconnect, Xiang Yu appeared, no, two of him appeared.
One grabbed Li Yao and instantly vanished.
The other smiled and transformed into a slime-like monster that leaped forward and wrapped around Tianling.
Xiang Yu thought to himself that he wouldn’t let this opportunity slip away. His slime body was covered with hundreds of heavenly-grade explosion talismans. The moment he wrapped around Tianling to hold her in place, he didn’t waste even a single second and activated them all.
“Y-you? Noooooo!” Tianling screamed as she used all her remaining power, tearing apart Xiang Yu’s slime form. But he kept regenerating and wrapping around her again and again.
Because of her earlier injury, her power had been reduced significantly.
Outside the void domain, Xiang Yu held the void sphere tightly in his hand. “Nihility Collapse,” he spoke calmly.
Instantly, the entire void domain crumbled into nothingness.
“Phew. Finally done,” he thought as he felt his clone disappear, which meant Tianling had been destroyed as well.
“Now, how do I deal with this?” he wondered, turning to face Li Yao. She had returned to her normal state and was curled up in a ball, mumbling incoherently to herself.
“Well, first, protection,” he decided.
He picked her up carefully and flew toward the cave. At the same time, one of his clones quickly set up a new heavenly-grade defensive formation.
Inside the spirit vein cave, Li Yao held her head in her hands. “Senior brother? Senior brother, where are you? I know you are real. Senior brother, don’t leave me. Senior brother…” she kept mumbling.
“What is wrong with her?” Xiang Yu wondered as he approached her slowly. He reached out and tapped her shoulder gently. “Yao Yao, I’m here,” he said softly.
She lifted her head slowly. “Senior brother?” When she saw him, she immediately threw herself at him.
“Ouch!” Xiang Yu winced as she bit into his neck. “What the hell?” he asked in surprise.
She started crying. “Senior brother,” she began, her eyes brightening with relief. “I knew senior brother was real,” she said, hugging him even tighter.
“Of course I am real. Why don’t you explain what happened?” Xiang Yu said, gently patting her head.
“Senior brother, I…” she began, but then clutched her head again. “No, I don’t want to go back,” she started mumbling again. “Senior brother, where are you?” she asked desperately.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m still here,” he reassured her.
“Senior brother,” she cried again. She continued crying as Xiang Yu gently comforted her until she finally fell asleep in his arms.
When she was asleep, the Empress appeared and sat beside him.
“What happened?” Xiang Yu asked. “Does the law have some side effects we don’t know about?”
The Empress sighed deeply.
[This matter is related to you. Tell me, what exactly are you?]
…
“What do you mean? What am I? I’m just me,” Xiang Yu said, genuinely confused.
The Empress sighed deeply.
[Never mind, you probably don’t know either. It’s not your fault] she said.
“I’m confused. Can you tell me what exactly happened?” Xiang Yu asked.
[I’m assuming she realized you don’t exist] the Empress said bluntly.
“Don’t exist? But I’m right here?” Xiang Yu said, looking down at himself.
[Not like that. Remember how I said you have a special physique that hides you from the Heavenly Dao?] the Empress began.
“Yes,” Xiang Yu nodded.
[Since the Law of Heavenly Way is how the Heavenly Dao operates, when Li Yao embodied the Law of Heavenly Way, she couldn’t see you anymore] the Empress explained. [The law also probably erased all memories of you since you don’t exist according to the Heavenly Dao] she added.
Xiang Yu was shocked by this revelation.
He hadn’t thought that it went this far. No wonder Li Yao was acting so strangely. He wondered why the Heavenly Dao thought he didn’t exist. It wasn’t that strange for people to reincarnate. His modern world was probably also just a low-level world without cultivation but still under the Heavenly Dao. So then, why didn’t the Heavenly Dao acknowledge his existence?
It all came back to the system. What was the system’s purpose, and why was it hiding him from the Heavenly Dao? He sighed. It seemed he wouldn’t know for a long time.
Later that day, as the sun was setting, Xiang Yu walked around the sect carrying Li Yao on his back.
“How are you feeling now?” he asked gently.
“Much better. Thank you,” she said softly.
Xiang Yu smiled. “No problem,” he said as he continued carrying her around.
“Senior brother…” Li Yao started hesitantly.
“What is it?” Xiang Yu asked.
“I was really scared,” she said. “It felt like my whole life was a lie. I couldn’t remember senior brother at all. As if he never existed.”
“Senior brother,” she called out.
“Yes,” he responded.
“I don’t want to live in such a world,” she said quietly.
“Even now, it feels as though I’m living a lie. But I can’t bring myself to live the truth if senior brother is a lie. It might be an illusion, but I wish to fall for it forever. I might be in a dream, but I don’t want to wake up. I might be trapped but I don’t wish to be saved”
“Senior brother,” she called out again.
“Yes,” he responded.
“Let’s get married,” she said.
Xiang Yu stopped moving. He remained silent for a long time before he finally spoke up.
“Okay, let’s get married.”
