Chapter 348: Chapter 22: Ambition to Forge a Necromancy Army
Sirius asked in confusion, “By the way, what is this soul mark imprint used for?”
The answer still came from Triss.
While playing with the dagger in her hand, she said, “See that character? It’s a Wizard’s Spirit Will Rune. By imprinting this Spirit Will Rune onto the soul material, the Wizard gains the ability to control that soul material.”
“In other words, if the skeleton we just defeated stands up again, then the Wizard could use this mark to control the skeleton.”
Precisely correct!
As a Wizard specialized in Necromancy, Lynch’s first reaction to the abundance of natural undead in the Underground City was, of course, to utilize them.
So, when he ordered Mila and the others to make adventurer badges, he left his Spirit Will Rune on each badge. Thus, when adventurers defeat undead and imprint their Spiritual Imprint onto the undead’s soul spark, the resurrected undead becomes his Undead Followers, under his control.
Skeletons, Zombies, Ghouls, Undead Knights, and even the legendary Undead Bone Dragon… After burying an entire grand Magic Civilization, the number of undead in this Underground City is countless. Over time, these will all fall under Lynch’s Spirit Will control, becoming his immortal army!
Sirius turned pale, immediately pinpointing the issue: “Then aren’t we actually producing soldiers for that Wizard behind the scenes? With so many undead in the Underground City, if they are all controlled by him…”
Triss shook her head, “It’s useless!”
“These undead souls are trapped within the Sealing Barrier of the Underground City, and they can’t leave unless the Wizard plans to live here forever. Otherwise, the domain he built becomes ineffective once it leaves here; it’s a pseudo-domain, a useless domain.”
“So many years ago, countless Wizards have tried. If this large natural undead pasture were really that easy to use, it wouldn’t have waited until now,” she said dismissively.
Yes, theoretically it was like that. Since souls are locked in this Underground City, whether skeletons or zombies, it’s impossible to take them out. Once they leave here, they just turn into dead objects, without any purpose.
That’s why Lynch never thought of controlling these undead initially, but as he dug deeper into the ruins, he changed his previous mindset—
Space Magic!
Acadia’s Wizards had used powerful Space Magic to seal and transfer this space underground and lock these souls. So, can I reverse this and use Space Magic to transfer this space out?
During battles, transferring this space along with its undead to the battlefield perfectly solves the problem of undead being unable to leave this area.
Being able to control them means having a powerful Undead Army!
Undead Army!
Lynch had experienced the power of the Sea of Bones army firsthand. Punishment Square was most frustrating for him because the Undead Army he had spent years creating was annihilated in one wave there.
Now, however, he will gain an even stronger force than before. In the Acadica Era, powerful entities had been transferred to the Underground City, and they all eventually became undead, some of which even Lynch finds difficult to match now…
Greater in number than before, over a hundred billion creatures were transferred into the underground, making his previous undead seem like a drop in the ocean in this Underground City.
Better maintained than the previous undead, which were crafted by Lynch one by one. They relied primarily on Lynch’s own spiritual power to act, and controlling them took a substantial amount of his spiritual power.
But now the undead in the Underground City are all powered by the souls sealed here. Lynch merely needs to control their soul will to issue commands, requiring negligible spiritual power.
“If I completely control this place, why fear the Supreme Council’s arrest warrant? Whether the Supreme Council exists or not, it’ll be up to me to give the nod.”
Lynch thought to himself.
“Um…”
At this moment, the Little Priest Hilia looked at Triss with a strange expression and said, “You know a lot.”
Triss casually explained, “I saw it in a book while exploring the ruins.”
No one investigated further.
“Let’s go, continue!” Sirius said, full of zeal.
The group continued their exploration, then began fighting and charging forward.
As the battles deepened, their mutual understanding gradually increased. At first, they only dared to face individual undead, then several at once, eventually being able to tactically lure and kill small clusters of undead.
They fought for several hours until everyone was breathless and exhausted.
“Let’s rest in the safe zone for a while,” Sirius suggested.
After extensive exploration, many areas of the Underground City have already been mapped by thieves. Where undead appear and where safer areas are have become common knowledge.
The group arrived at the safe zone, an abandoned street block now gathering countless adventurers. Taking the opportunity to rest, they set up stalls on the street, selling replaced gear or artifacts unearthed from the ruins.
“Short sword! Short sword! A Black Iron Level novice short sword, anyone interested?”
“Silver Scale Chest Armor, Bronze Level, 5 gold a piece!”
The lively market quickly captivated the young adventurers. After a brief discussion, they decided to explore this Underground City market separately and meet back at a set time and location.
After parting ways with Sirius and the others.
Lynch didn’t join them in exploring the market. After all, the items unearthed here end up at the Adventurer Guild after changing hands multiple times. They are selected and, if valuable, delivered to him; no need for him to treasure hunt personally.
He took a cloak out from a Space Crack, put it on, left a space coordinate at the market, and headed towards the depths of the Underground City.
Passing through one decaying corridor after another, he soon reached the second layer of the Underground City, teeming with high-level undead creatures, including Undead Knights, Undead Blade Axe Men, Skull Shooters, and more, considered an extremely dangerous area only dared by High-level Adventurers.
However, these undead that make others turn pale with fear were nothing to Lynch. He activated [Elemental Voidification], easily passing through wall after wall, floor after floor.
Soon he arrived at the third layer, the most dangerous area of this Underground City, occupied by rotting Earth Dragons and some Low-level Witch Demons, almost untouched by adventurers; an unknown zone.
Yet Lynch’s steps remained unwavering as he continued to voidify his body downward.
Finally.
After passing through layer after layer of the floor, he reached the deepest layer of the Underground City.
It’s an impressively spacious palace, where Bronze gears float above the dome, forming an ever-collapsing star map. Thirty-six curse-encrusted stone pillars surround the hall, each imprisoning a translucent Witch Demon, their howls transforming into silently falling ice crystals in space-time distortion.
At the deepest part of the palace, a towering stone pillar stood, its top bound tightly with black chains gripping a young girl’s soul.
Her green hair, coupled with a pair of long, sharp ears, resembled the legendary Elf.
But she clearly lacked the Elf’s love of peace and gentle temperament, instead being quite irritable and insane.
As soon as Lynch arrived, her gaze locked onto him, eyes seemingly ready to jump from their sockets, filled with a gaze of hatred—deep, profound hatred.
Her eyes shed red tears, a creepy, mad laughter emitting from her lips. In the next second, the laughter revealed a name that lightly surprised Lynch.
“Hahaha! You’ve finally come! You’ve finally dared to see me!”
She glared at Lynch with those gray eyes, word by word, through gritted teeth: “Al!”
“Al Fredo!”
