Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 953: The Third Party Hidden in the Shadows

In the dim room, Kismet looked down at a mirror in his palm.

The mirror had suddenly turned white, preventing him from seeing the scene inside. But Kismet wasn’t anxious, still waiting quietly.

After a while, Saul’s figure appeared in the mirror again.

Somewhat blurry sounds floated out from the mirror simultaneously.

“This worm is definitely not simple. It’s appeared for so many years, yet the Stargate Council hasn’t discovered it… Could there be problems within the Council too?”

Kismet curved his lips upward. “Has little brother master discovered the problem so quickly?”

Someone entered then. Kismet lightly flicked his finger, and the mirror burrowed into the skin of his wrist and disappeared.

“Has Saul reached fourth rank?” Douglas stood in the center of the room, followed by over a hundred palm-sized Ophelias bouncing around.

Kismet turned around nonchalantly, looking at the Ophelias following Douglas like insects. Feeling disgusted, he frowned without concealing it.

“His strength should already be sufficient for advancement, but he probably hasn’t prepared the advancement ceremony yet, so he needs to wait a bit longer.”

Douglas nodded. “No rush. I can see he’s also an ambitious person who definitely won’t be satisfied with limiting himself to fourth rank. Good, I like that.”

Douglas walked to the room’s window, lifting the curtain to look outside for a few glances.

Although with his fifth-rank strength, he could completely see the outside scene without lifting the curtain, he seemed to just enjoy doing things himself.

In the years since being summoned by Kismet and Ophelia, he often acted like an ordinary person, even eating a meal every day.

The house they were currently in was located in the Olga Duchy of Iskaper Continent. Original content can be found at novel fire.net

Iskaper Continent was the exact opposite of Nephret Continent. There were no vast empires here, but rather dozens of duchies of varying territorial sizes. All duchies accepted the Stargate Council’s supervision and protection. They would also send young, talented wizard apprentices to the Stargate Council.

Olga Duchy was closest to the Stargate Council.

From this temporary residence’s window, one could even see the Stargate Council’s headquarters—the Star Observatory Tower.

That tower reaching into the clouds also had something a hundred meters above the tower, floating above the cloud layer, invisible to ordinary people.

Douglas lifted the curtain to look at the Star Observatory Tower. He seemed to see some interesting scenes, with a faint smile on his face.

However, he didn’t mention what he had seen. Instead, he lowered the curtain and commanded Kismet in an authoritative tone, “In a couple of days, lead him to the Stargate Council and give him another golden page.”

Kismet crossed his arms, somewhat surprised. “I thought you’d want to snatch the diary back.”

Douglas’s shoulders and arms were covered with Ophelias.

“The diary is useless in my hands—giving it to Saul is just right. But he’s still too weak now. He needs to become powerful quickly, or he can’t help us at all.”

The hundreds of Ophelias on Douglas and on the ground said in unison, “Why do we still need his help? Aren’t Kismet and I enough?”

“You also have your own tasks. Ophelia, you need more practice.”

Hundreds of Ophelias simultaneously pouted. “Following the method you taught, I can already split into hundreds. Why is it still not enough? I want to eat Saul. If I eat him, will I be able to withstand starlight radiation?”

Kismet was amused by Ophelia. “It’s not that simple. If eating him could be enough to withstand starlight radiation, I’d definitely keep him penned up and sell him by the slice.”

Hundreds of Ophelias angrily bounced in place. Since splitting into hundreds of herself, she couldn’t quite control her emotions.

Seeing the two about to argue, Douglas raised his hand to stop the conflict. “It’s useless. You can only split now but can’t achieve mutual connection. Rather than coveting others, do well yourself.”

Looking at hundreds of dejected Ophelias hanging their heads, Douglas picked up one and shook it in his hand. “You don’t need to worry. I’ve discovered an acquaintance. I’ll bring them over to help supplement your energy.”

Saul took an airship to the Stargate Council.

Before departure, he left behind quite a few troubles.

Corey missing, Aurel dead—two high-rank wizards having incidents after Saul’s arrival made it hard not to suspect Saul was responsible.

But facing Saul, no one dared question him directly. When Saul said he was going to Stargate Council headquarters, those low-rank wizards could only take what Saul said as truth.

As for how they would report to Stargate Council headquarters after Saul left was unknown. This text is hosted at novelfire.net

Of course, before leaving, Saul didn’t forget to deliver the warning Corey had failed to send for years to the Glare family.

Although Norton didn’t have many years left, he could at least protect the family for a while. If they also discovered the strange red worms, they would find ways to deal with them.

Red worms that could replace others and control third-rank wizards were truly too dangerous. Moreover, Saul couldn’t confirm how many red worms had appeared in total or where these monsters came from.

Whether it was Norton acting or Stargate Council people ultimately choosing to believe Saul, when Saul headed to Stargate Council headquarters, no one came forward to stop him.

The airship landed in Olga Duchy, closest to Stargate Council headquarters. The landing location was in the capital’s suburbs.

This was the same as Stat Continent—airship stations wouldn’t approach cities. Perhaps ordinary people of this era still feared airship crashes and didn’t dare let airships enter urban areas.

After disembarking, Saul stood on the airship station’s platform and immediately saw the white tower reaching into the sky in the distance.

It was a tower taller and grander than any Saul had ever seen. The tower top approached the clouds, and looking further up, the cloud layer seemed to hide something else.

“Is this your first time in Olga?” A young wizard apprentice seemed to notice Saul standing alone on the airship platform for a long time without leaving, thinking he was nervous about arriving in a new city, so he came over to chat.

Saul half-turned, seeing the other was about twenty years old, a second-level wizard apprentice, probably working hard to advance to third-level apprentice before age thirty.

“I am indeed visiting Olga for the first time.” For convenience in taking the airship, Saul had quietly adjusted his magical power to second-rank wizard apprentice levels.

This way he wouldn’t be revered as a monster when boarding.

“Then you’re also here for the Stargate Council apprentice selection, right? By the way, I’m Jeffrey, from Highland Duchy, specializing in lightning attribute magic. How about you?”

“I’m called Saul. I’m from Stat Continent—you probably haven’t heard of countries over there.”

Jeffrey didn’t hear Saul answer his earlier question but directly assumed Saul had agreed.

“Indeed, I’ve never been to other continents. But the Stargate Council rarely recruits apprentices from outside.” Jeffrey enthusiastically pulled Saul down from the platform. “But there are exceptions. I know something about the selection. Shall we go register together?”

Saul was pulled along by Jeffrey without resisting, only looking back once while walking down the platform.

While the airship still stopped on the platform, someone seemed to be watching him from above.

But that gaze disappeared when Saul looked back.
