Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 890: The Imprisoned Continent

Saul was momentarily shocked by the starry sky outside the membrane.

Many speculations flashed through his mind, the first being whether the Chaos Realm was floating in the universe, simply protected by a membrane layer so it wouldn’t disintegrate in the universe or have to resist cosmic dangers.

But this membrane didn’t seem to completely isolate everything. After all, it already had a hole, and he didn’t know if this hole would eventually become the ant hole that breaks the dam.

Saul first checked the hole where his fate line had emerged and found that the fate line’s passage in and out hadn’t affected the hole’s shape. And this tiny pinhole hadn’t leaked anything else from the Chaos Realm world to the outside.

Not even a speck of dust.

In other words, this crack was a hole for fate lines, but not necessarily for this world. The latest_epɪ_sodes are on_the novel⦿fire.net

After all, a pinhole-sized crack could allow many substances to pass through.

Saul felt somewhat reassured and continued manipulating the fate line to explore further outside.

But after continuing to explore outward, Saul discovered that outside wasn’t really the universe.

Or rather, he was in the universe, but in a place where he could see the universe.

It was just that when he first emerged from the crack, the crack was aligned with the starry sky, so he only saw the starry sky.

“This counts as observing the sky from the bottom of a well.”

After emerging from the crack and extending a bit further, Saul saw land below the starry sky.

Then he discovered his position should be on a plane, or rather a ground surface.

The line continued rising, and after reaching a certain height, he looked back.

Saul saw a piece of land.

A land even more desolate than the Chaos Realm.

Because here, there were no mountains or deserts, no forests or rivers.

It was somewhat like the lunar surface from Saul’s vague memories, but without the circular mountains from meteorite impacts. The ground was quite flat, just rough terrain composed of soil and rocks.

Moreover, judging from the direction of rock accumulation, this place’s gravity was exactly opposite to the Chaos Realm where Saul was currently located.

The two worlds existed pressed together, sole to sole.

“Could the Chaos Realm be a world thrown into the universe, with this outer layer being a protective shell of accumulated dust from long-term wandering?”

Saul continued extending his fate line upward. The twinkling stars overhead reminded him of the stars in his consciousness space.

He felt no discomfort on the fate line, nor any sense of danger, so he continued upward.

After all, on a spherical celestial body, standing high meant seeing far.

After rising for a long distance, Saul began to feel strained. He finally stopped and tried hard to perceive the ground below.

Unfortunately, fate lines couldn’t completely replace visual perception. At such a distance, the information Saul could receive became blurred.

He discovered the ground below seemed to have some additional protrusions.

Gray-white, massive as small mountains, quiet and motionless.

But Saul couldn’t yet distinguish what those protrusions were.

At this point, Saul’s mental power began to destabilize, with fatigue surging up.

“Time to go back.”

The fate line began rapidly contracting.

But perhaps the fate line’s arrival had ultimately triggered certain forces. As it returned to the crack, a section of nearby ground suddenly trembled, then surface soil slid down with a rustling sound.

Something gray-white was exposed.

Saul accelerated his return speed.

His soul body was no longer stable now, and he didn’t want to directly confront the creatures here.

But he was still a step too slow.

Just as the fate line was about to retract into the crack, that gray-white thing suddenly burst completely out from beneath the dust.

Saul’s movement, which was already retracting, paused as he met the newly appeared gray-white form. After a moment, he again commanded the fate line to completely drill back underground.

The fate line returned to Saul’s body. Saul immediately commanded Little Algae to spit out the mud mixed with black powder it had just swallowed, restoring the mountain wall to its original state.

That thing didn’t pursue, and there wasn’t even mental power fluctuation exploring in this direction.

Saul stood in place for a long time until a voice rang in his mind.

Hermann: [Master, are you alright?]

The consciousness entities in the diary hadn’t seen everything Saul witnessed through the fate line.

In their perception, Saul had been standing in place, dazed, for over ten minutes.

“I’m fine.” Saul first comforted the somewhat uneasy consciousness entities, then said with a puzzled tilt of his head, “I just saw outside the Chaos Realm – let’s call it outside for now – I saw… a human skeleton there.”

Soon after, Saul returned to the top of the crevice and saw Ann, who had been waiting by the cliff fissure.

“Master, are you alright?” Ann came forward.

“Were you waiting anxiously?” Saul asked with a smile.

“I’m a bit worried.” Ann said frankly. “I’ve never been to the bottom layer of the cliff. In fact, I’ve never found the bottom layer. There’s an unknown terror there for me.”

Before answering Ann, Saul saw the little girl peeking from behind Ann – Lucia, whom Ann had brought down before.

The girl had a round face and could be considered cute by Chaos Realm standards, but… she had no nose.

Or rather, no protruding nasal bridge. Above her mouth were two elongated holes.

This should be Lucia’s mutation. Chaos Realm people basically all had them – some mutations made them stronger, others had no effect.

Scorpion’s original mutation had been useless, so when his tribe faced resource crisis, he was among the first to be abandoned.

However, Scorpion was later lucky enough to bring back a great deceiver, achieving a turnaround.

Ann looked back and saw Lucia, glaring at her to go back.

Lucia stuck out her tongue and retreated into the tent.

Ann felt somewhat embarrassed remembering her previous conversation with Lucia had been completely overheard by Saul. “Her nasal cavity mutation can smell the distinctive scent of bones, so I bring her out to find remains. Over time, the little girl became quite well-behaved, so I took her as an apprentice.”

Ann spoke as if reporting. ᴛhis chapter is ᴜpdated by ɴovelfire.net

“Of course you can. I don’t interfere with your private lives. Did you also give Lucia her name? People here usually prefer single-syllable names.”

“Yes, her original name was Deer. But I changed her name mainly because there were dozens of girls named Deer in Black Water City. Their families always hope to hunt a deer when going out, so many children have prey names.”

Such simple and honest hopes?

Saul’s somewhat tense nerves gradually relaxed. He walked back to the cliff edge, his shoe kicking a small pebble.

The small pebble flew out, fell into the crevice, kept falling, disappeared into darkness, and finally no sound came back up.

“This Chaos Realm should be a broken World Side.”

Ann nodded. She had also discovered this.

Saul turned his head, looking at Ann who had walked to his side and stood parallel with him. “Do you know what the edge of a World Side looks like?”

“I’ve never been to a World Side. Those are basically occupied by powerful wizard forces and wizard families. But I heard from family elders that World Sides are also very dangerous. If insufficiently powerful people occupy a World Side, they might be devoured by the World Side instead, becoming nourishment for the world.”

Ann frowned slightly, recalling the past. “They said World Sides are incomplete worlds. That’s why they’re called World Sides, not small worlds. The incompleteness of World Sides seems to manifest in having boundaries, and these boundaries are constantly fragmenting and reorganizing.”

“Is that so?” Saul clasped his hands behind his back. “But I discovered a membrane layer below, and outside the membrane is another boundless world. This doesn’t seem like a World Side, but rather like an imprisoned continent.”
