Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 1010: Borrowing Sky City

In the Prismatic World channel, Saul became nervous upon hearing Shaya’s report of the situation.

“Can you hold out on your end?”

[We just repelled the first wave of anchor point monster attacks. It’s actually much easier than outside. The bone army has taken shape. Although they’re not as flexible as the anchor points, they have large numbers and can block the monsters rushing out from the cracks.]

Hearing this, Saul felt somewhat relieved.

He had thought the Chaos Realm was sealed to prevent him from contacting Camus again, but he hadn’t expected anchor points to actually break through the Chaos Realm’s outer membrane and attack the Chaos Realm.

“How many enemies are there?”

[The first batch of anchor points that emerged from the great rift totaled 11. They’ve currently retreated to below the great rift. If the numbers don’t suddenly increase dramatically, we shouldn’t have any problems protecting ourselves. It’s just that we can’t go down into the great rift now, and we don’t know how the anchor point monsters came over, nor are we sure if other monsters will come later.]

Saul thought of a question. “Your excavation work has also been suspended now, right?”

[Ah! Yes, but the bone army’s numbers are already basically approaching the upper limit that Keli and the others can control, so the impact isn’t too great.]

This was the advantage of Keli and the others rushing to create the bone army. Although the excavation work was now obstructed, the army’s scale was already established.

It was just that when the decisive battle of the black tide eruption came, if the Chaos Realm still couldn’t be opened, then the monster army Saul had carefully created couldn’t fight in the wizard world.

At the same time, Saul also realized that since someone had sealed the Chaos Realm, they probably no longer cared whether he would discover the scheme.

Saul immediately switched fate lines and connected with his Master Gorsa.

“Master, have you encountered any abnormalities on your end?”

Gorsa quickly replied.

[No, are you having problems on your end?]

“The Chaos Realm can no longer be entered or exited.”

[Oh—]

Gorsa’s “oh” was drawn out very long.

“Master, do you know something?”

[Douglas did it. He’s the only wizard here who understands space best.]

Gorsa didn’t require evidence when making judgments.

“I guessed the same thing. And I also suspect he did this because he doesn’t want me to see Camus again.”

Saul told Gorsa everything he had seen after entering the abyss—the images and the words he heard from another consciousness in the abyss.

[…You’re simply the Abyssal Eye’s nemesis. When I saw those spatial rifts, I directly…]

Gorsa couldn’t help but sigh.

[However, what you saw is about the same as what I saw. I also discovered through those spatial rifts that inside was actually a corpse. You know, I’m skilled in light-dark magic. That bit of rift was enough for me to see clearly into the abyss. I just couldn’t understand the abyss’s external form—I could only confirm it was a corpse.]

“I didn’t see what was behind the spatial rifts, but I definitely felt extremely powerful death energy.”

And there were no fate lines either.

Saul wasn’t clear whether sixth-rank beings also had fate lines extending outside their bodies, or whether they could hide or retract them. So he couldn’t judge purely through fate lines.

[However, regardless of what state the abyss is in, we need to accelerate our progress. Maybe I should agree to Byron’s proposal.]

“What proposal?”

[The red worms’ improvement speed is too slow now, so the half-elf proposed a solution, though it’s quite risky.]

“The half-elf? He wouldn’t want to send all the elves’ consciousness into deactivated red worm bodies.”

[Exactly that. Though he says it shouldn’t be called sending—it should be called feeding.]

What would red worms fed with elf consciousness become?

Saul couldn’t imagine for the moment.

Moreover, if it was feeding, then the elf consciousness entering the deactivated red worms would probably only serve as nourishment, rather than becoming the new master of the worm body like the half-elf.

Wouldn’t that contradict the half-elf’s original plan to use red worms to help the elf race return to the wizard world?

[The half-elf says he’ll need our help together in the future, so sacrificing some elf consciousness is also his expression of sincerity. Heh.]

“If there are enough red worms, it could indeed reduce the number of wizard sacrifices.”

[With the Chaos Realm temporarily sealed, would you like to come to the Stargate Council to participate in the red worm experiments?]

Saul thought about it but shook his head. “I still need to make a trip to Sky City.”

[To Ophelia’s place? She’s been in seclusion for a long time. Are you trying to get her to join?]

“Me? I want to borrow her Sky City.”

[The kind where you borrow but don’t return?]

“Right, the kind where you borrow but don’t return.”

Saul ascended to Sky City for the second time.

At first, he thought everything here was almost exactly the same as his last visit.

But when Saul flew past the Academy of Knowledge and Academy of Practice to reach the castle, he discovered that the Ophelia avatars that had been here were all gone.

The entire castle was empty—there wasn’t even a single person discussing knowledge or conducting experiments.

After circling above the castle, Saul returned to the Academy of Practice where he had once stayed and directly sought out Academy Dean Shaquille.

Shaquille had originally been leisurely drinking something. When he looked up and suddenly saw Saul appearing across from him, he nearly spat out the water in his mouth but forced himself to swallow it.

He hurriedly stood up. “Lord Saul, how did you come here?”

Shaquille had already received the news publicly announced by the Stargate Council.

Several major pieces of news had immediately spread throughout the world like thunder.

One was that Gorsa, whom everyone thought had died, had suddenly become the new Stargate Council Chairman.

The other was that Saul had advanced to the fourth rank.

Shaquille remembered the things he had secretly done under the city lord’s orders before, and his heart went cold. Fresh chapters posted on 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝•𝖿𝗂𝗋𝖾•𝘯𝘦𝘵

But Saul hadn’t come to Sky City for revenge for a long time, which made Shaquille slightly relieved.

He hadn’t expected that just as he relaxed, Saul would directly appear before him.

Shaquille endured his inner fear as he looked at Saul, not knowing what Saul wanted to do coming to Sky City after all this time.

“Where is Ophelia?”

Saul’s voice sounded very calm, not like he was here for revenge.

“The city lord began refusing to see outsiders several years ago and is currently in the White Glass Palace.”

“There’s no one in the White Glass Palace.”

“I’m not clear about that. The city lord doesn’t allow us to enter the White Glass Palace without permission. Everything in the city continues according to usual procedures.”

Shaquille couldn’t help but complain internally—could City Lord Ophelia have run away first upon seeing Saul arrive?

Saul thought for a moment. “Ophelia once took me to a place full of pipes called the Mechanical Heart. Do you know its exact location?”

If Ophelia was hiding in the Mechanical Heart, then Saul’s search around the White Glass Palace’s perimeter indeed might not find anyone.

Shaquille quickly said, “I know. The Mechanical Heart is actually at the center of the lower half of Sky City that’s wrapped in clouds. It’s just that although I know where it is, I’m not allowed to enter. Unless I get permission from City Lord Ophelia, anyone else who approaches will be swallowed by the Mechanical Heart.”

Saul waved his hand dismissively. “You don’t need to enter. Just take me to the entrance.”
