Chapter 1439: 1440: The Co-pilot's Seat is Reserved for My Girlfriend

Chapter 1439: Chapter 1440: The Co-pilot’s Seat is Reserved for My Girlfriend

Outside the hospital, Chu Xi was dressed in a mint-green spaghetti-strap dress, paired with ankle-length leather boots. Her exposed skin was fair and captivating. Her coffee-colored curly hair cascaded over her shoulders, revealing a stretch of snow-white neck and prominently visible collarbones. She stood obediently next to the black Bentley, waiting to get in.

Standing beside her was a tall and handsome man at six feet one inch. At first glance, the handsome man and beautiful woman painted a scene so picturesque it could pass for a romantic drama.

Li Shengxiao hadn’t said a single word to her the entire way. His expression remained cold and indifferent, as though she didn’t exist at all. Not until he walked out of the hospital and reached the parked car did he finally pause to open the door.

At that moment, Chu Xi circled to the other side and pulled open the passenger-side door.

But just then, a detached voice came through, “That seat’s already taken.”

“Huh?” Chu Xi froze in place. Going forward felt inappropriate; retreating felt awkward. She hesitated for a moment and asked, “By who? Is someone else joining us?”

Li Shengxiao opened the car door, not even sparing her a glance. “My girlfriend.”

“…”

“That seat is exclusively hers. Even if she’s not here, it stays empty.”

Chu Xi’s cheeks flushed as though she had been slapped, scattering all the joy she had harbored in her heart. She forced a stiff smile and sarcastically muttered, “Didn’t think Mr. Li would act like a lovestruck teenager in a relationship.”

Her words were clearly directed at Rong Yan, insinuating that she was an immature little girl.

Li Shengxiao ignored her completely and got into the car.

“Get in. I’ve got things to do and don’t have time to waste.” He rolled down the window. His sharp jawline made his face appear even icier. Especially when his thin lips pressed tightly together, the cold, distant aura grew stronger. It felt as though he was standing right in front of you, yet miles away, unreachable no matter how you reached out.

Chu Xi’s face alternated between pale and flushed. Unwilling to give up, she released her grip, closed the passenger door, moved to the back seat, and climbed into the car.

The Bentley rolled out of the hospital parking lot and cruised steadily on the road…

Chu Xi spent the entire ride thinking about how to break the silence inside the car. Just then, the car phone rang.

Li Shengxiao’s phone was connected to the car’s Bluetooth. While driving, he casually pressed the answer button on the touchscreen.

The noise of a movie theater letting out came through on the other end of the line, followed by a soft and delicate female voice from the car’s speakers. “Hello? I saw your message. We just finished the movie. Are you done with work?”

“Almost. Give me half an hour. Find a place to have some water while you wait for me.” His voice instantly shed its earlier coldness. Even though Chu Xi couldn’t see his expression at this moment, she could easily imagine the gentleness and indulgence in his eyes.

She bit her lip, feeling as though a venomous snake had coiled itself around her heart, flicking its tongue menacingly.

Her face darkened. Pretending it was unintentional, she suddenly broke the silence and cut into the conversation. “Shengxiao, I just remembered—I forgot to tell you that I live in Jiangcheng District.”

Unaware that there was someone else in the car, Rong Yan immediately reacted upon hearing a female voice from the speaker, one that sounded particularly familiar. Instinctively, she asked, “Are you still busy?”

The Bentley screeched sharply to a halt by the roadside. A piercingly cold gaze locked onto Chu Xi, sharp as a dagger, plunging directly into her chest. Chu Xi’s breathing stalled as her neck tightened painfully. She dared not say a word. Stiffly pale, she squeezed out a forced smile and tried to feign ignorance. “Wha-what’s wrong? Did I interrupt your call? My apologies—I just suddenly remembered I hadn’t mentioned where I live yet.”
