Chapter 1912: Chapter 2009: The Meaning of Existence
Under the secret chamber beneath the Qin Imperial City.
Mo Shouhe was channeling his own power, having already dissolved eighty to ninety percent of the demon qi that Jin Zhulong had injected into him before his death. However, the last remaining wisp of demon qi was exceptionally resilient, and he couldn’t completely dispel it, which delayed Mo Shouhe longer than he anticipated.
Outside the chamber, Liao Can Sheng walked slowly but didn’t enter this time. Instead, he spoke from outside, "The three Sky Tower Sword Masters have failed. Currently, the three sects are still searching for Qi Liansheng’s whereabouts, but there is no news yet."
Mo Shouhe frowned, somewhat displeased, and said, "Tell those three, if they cannot bring Qi Liansheng before me, they should be prepared to answer with their lives."
Liao Can Sheng acknowledged with a sound and then retreated.
Mo Shouhe opened his eyes, a glimmer of malice flashing within them. He sent the three Sky Tower Sword Masters to capture Qi Liansheng because of their formidable strength, which left them with virtually no rivals in this era. Additionally, being remnants from the ancient times like Qi Liansheng, the chances of them successfully dealing with him were greater.
Yet Mo Shouhe didn’t expect that these three would fail and allow Qi Liansheng to escape without a trace. It had been a whole month without any news.
This really irritated Mo Shouhe. If it weren’t for the demon qi still unresolved within him, he would have taken care of Qi Liansheng himself, rather than sending the Sky Tower Sword Masters.
"Jin Zhulong, even in death, you’ve been such a hassle to me. I did underestimate you." Mo Shouhe muttered under his breath.
"He is already dead, and you still dwell on it. Are you planning to drag Jin Zhulong’s body out and grind his bones to dust?" Another voice, laced with sarcasm, rang out. Mo Shouhe’s eyes narrowed as a mysterious black umbrella appeared out of thin air, with the umbrella-wielder standing in front of him, smiling faintly.
"What’s your purpose here?" Mo Shouhe’s brows furrowed instantly, his tone quite aloof.
The umbrella-wielder swayed his black umbrella, as if it were a part of his body, never set down, always covering his head no matter where he was.
"I came to see how you, Mo Martial Master, are faring. It seems things aren’t going well for you." The umbrella-wielder said with a casual smile, the mockery in his words undisguised.
Mo Shouhe showed no expression, indifferent to the sarcasm in the umbrella-wielder’s words, appearing quite serene.
"Qi Liansheng isn’t so easy to catch. Before you, Mo Martial Master, emerge, those few people’s skills are probably insufficient to locate Qi Liansheng, so relax." The umbrella-wielder chuckled.
Upon hearing this, Mo Shouhe’s eyes flickered with a hint of anger, questioning, "Could it be you who hid Qi Liansheng away?"
The umbrella-wielder laughed, "Not at all. That kid is sharp enough to guess your intent to capture him, so he wouldn’t easily let you succeed."
"I hope it’s as you say. Even if you don’t want to help me, at least don’t hinder me." Mo Shouhe said coldly.
The umbrella-wielder remained silent, and so did Mo Shouhe, both eyeing each other with mutual caution.
Though both were incarnations of the Ancient Spirit from Mountain Tu, they didn’t follow the same path, an unusual occurrence. Only the incarnations themselves knew the true reason behind it.
After a long while, the umbrella-wielder continued, "You plan to refine another Transcendental Elixir. Whether it can be done or not, even if it’s successful, do you think Fang Qingye will let you have your way?"
"Fang Qingye has his own troubles, and his concerns lie elsewhere." Mo Shouhe spoke indifferently.
The umbrella-wielder shook his head, "If he knows you’re brewing another Transcendental Elixir, he might intervene personally. Even if you regain your former strength, you still wouldn’t be his match."
These words made Mo Shouhe somewhat uneasy inside, and he said, "Even if Fang Qingye is determined to stop me, it’s meaningless. If the one he suppressed breaks free, it will only benefit me."
"Have you considered that if you fail again, you’ll have to absorb the vitality of all beings to extend your lifespan? In the past, the Human Clan was prosperous, with strong individuals aplenty, providing enough vitality for you to draw from. But what about now? You might not find enough living beings in the whole world, both human and demon beast, to sustain your life for long. Eventually, you will face extinction." The umbrella-wielder warned.
Mo Shouhe responded with a cold expression, "Therefore, failing again this time is not an option, whatever it takes, success is imperative."
The umbrella-wielder only smiled bitterly, his face reflecting some complexity.
"At the end of the day, you and I are helpless. All of this is bestowed by that Ancient Spirit of Mountain Tu, and its will cannot be defied." The umbrella-wielder sighed.
Mo Shouhe glanced at him and said nonchalantly, "The day your umbrella falls will be the day you perish, won’t it?"
"You’re right, my life is nearing its end. This umbrella extends my life, but its fall is nearing." The umbrella-wielder said with a profound meaning.
"Once I obtain the Transcendental Elixir, you and I shall return to Mountain Tu, and naturally, we’ll share immortality." Mo Shouhe declared.
The umbrella-wielder turned his back to Mo Shouhe, appearing ready to leave.
"Share immortality? Do you think that in the end, you, Mo Shouhe, will still be Mo Shouhe? Only the Ancient Spirit of Mountain Tu will attain immortality, not you or I." The umbrella-wielder spoke, his step crossing into the distance, disappearing from the scene.
"As incarnations of the Ancient Spirit, what is our true purpose in this world?" The last voice of the umbrella-wielder lingered, leaving Mo Shouhe unaffected, his expression cold.
Only Mo Shouhe himself knew what thoughts lay in his heart.
"My purpose is merely transcendence." Mo Shouhe murmured, speaking not in response to the umbrella-wielder’s last question but to himself.

In the Ancient Demon Ridge, the pills Fang Lin was refining were near completion.
The ninth-grade pills, created using the Universe Creation Furnace, had not yet fully formed but already released a celestial glow that captured the attention of other demon beasts in the Ancient Demon Ridge.
"Progress is smooth; they should be done tomorrow." Fang Lin mumbled to himself, standing beside the Universe Creation Furnace.
Meanwhile, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven sat cross-legged before the Demon Clan’s Sacred Tree, silently absorbing the power of the Sacred Tree.
At that moment, a figure slowly emerged from within the Demon Clan’s Sacred Tree, standing in front of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven.
The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, however, remained completely oblivious.
