Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
Jing Kong had been three years old when Gu Jiao brought him down from the mountain, and in these three and a half years, although outwardly it seemed that he clung more to Gu Jiao since he constantly chirped “JiaoJiaoJiaoJiao”, the truth was that he had spent the most time with Xiao Heng.
First of all, the two of them shared a room, which already took up a third of the day.
Secondly, whenever Gu Jiao went on campaign, she could not take him along, but when Xiao Heng went to the State of Yan to find Gu Jiao, the little one had followed him everywhere, never leaving his side.
Before this, Xiao Heng had never raised a child, and had zero experience in dealing with them. He only accepted Jing Kong because Gu Jiao had brought him back.
Yet through all the bumps and bruises, battles of wits and courage, the two of them had already become inseparable parts of each other’s lives.
Xiao Heng pinched the shortened sleeve and tutted, “You’ve started growing taller. We’ll have to make new clothes again. You really are such a waste of fabric!”
Little Jing Kong muttered sleepily in his dream, as if he were complaining about his grumbling.
When Xiao Heng returned to the main room, Gu Jiao had already finished washing up. Dressed in her cool silk nightclothes, she sat at the table sorting through the medicines in her little medicine chest.
The sight of her filled Xiao Heng’s heart with a peaceful contentment, as though time itself had stilled. Smiling softly, he said in a gentle voice, “I’ll go bathe first.”
“Oh, all right.” Gu Jiao kept her head down, continuing to sort the medicines.
When Xiao Heng came out after bathing, she was still meticulously at work, her expression oddly peculiar.
“What is it?” He asked, coming over to her side.
“One, two, three.” Gu Jiao counted the anti-inflammatory medicines she had put back into the chest, then turned her head to Xiao Heng and said, “Have you noticed that it seems to have gotten a little bigger?”
“The medicine chest?” Xiao Heng looked at it carefully.
Gu Jiao said, “Before, this compartment could only fit two boxes side by side, but today I managed to put in three.”
Xiao Heng did not remember much about the internal structure of the little medicine chest; he only knew that although it looked small, it could actually hold an incredible amount. In Gu Jiao’s words, its inside contained a space of another dimension.
As for the outer chest itself——
After looking at it for a while, Xiao Heng measured its length, width, and height with his fingers. “It seems to have grown by an inch.”
Gu Jiao’s eyes widened. “Right? I only discovered it today.”
It was mainly because she had been busy with the wedding recently, and afterward had been wrapped up in all sorts of shameless, lovey-dovey matters, so she had hardly had the time to organize it properly.
The little medicine chest was far too mysterious. To this day, Gu Jiao had not fully grasped its secrets, only that it came from an advanced civilization and was not a product of this dimension.
Xiao Heng sat down beside her and asked, “How did you obtain this chest in the first place?”
“My Godfather gave it to me.” Gu Jiao replied truthfully.
Regarding her own origins, Gu Jiao had already been honest with Xiao Heng, telling him that she came from another time and space. Using terms that Xiao Heng could understand, it meant that her soul had occupied this body.
But as for the specific experiences of that time and space, she had spoken of them very rarely.
“What is a Godfather exactly?” For Xiao Heng now, this was a completely new term.
Gu Jiao explained the common meaning of “godfather” in society, but in her organization, it did not mean father-figure; it was more a respectful title for the leader of their group.
In fact, her godfather was not much older than she was.
She remembered very clearly that when she was eight years old, the only grandmother who had taken care of her also passed away. She sat all alone under the muddy eaves, soaked through by a torrential downpour.
She trembled, thinking she was going to freeze to death there, when suddenly a pair of polished black military boots stepped through the mud toward her.
The rain was too heavy. She tried to tilt her head up to see his face, but the water blinded her eyes.
She only remembered that when she lowered her head again, a cold, pale, long-fingered hand, looking as though it held no warmth at all, was extended toward her.
It was the most beautiful hand she had ever seen.
“W-who are you?”
“King. From now on, call me Godfather.”
The sixteen-year-old youth’s voice was deep and smooth, calm and cold-blooded.
As Gu Jiao fell into thought, Xiao Heng gazed at her without blinking. It was the first time he had heard from her lips the mention of another man tied to her past.
“You care about him very much.” He said.
His tone was one of certainty.
“Yes.” Gu Jiao did not shy away but nodded, speaking seriously. “If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”
If her godfather had not taken her in, she would have frozen to death in that storm long ago.
All her skills had been taught by him.
But when it came to her godfather, suddenly her memories seemed not so certain.
She had never felt this way before, and she could not say exactly when it began, but recently she had more and more the sense that she was forgetting something very important.
“Wife.” Xiao Heng said calmly, “I’m jealous.” The kind that could not be easily soothed.
“Mm?” Gu Jiao stared at him blankly. “Why?”
The grand jealous king, with no change in expression, confessed bluntly, “You’ve never cared about me that much.”
Gu Jiao: “…”
……
The night was dark and the wind was high.
A carriage traveled swiftly along the broad official road.
“You little troublemaker, do you really have to go find your father?”
Inside the carriage, Princess Xinyang held the small child in her arms, her face full of grievance as she asked.
At this hour, other children were already asleep, but her precious daughter still had her jewel-like eyes wide open, with not a trace of drowsiness.
“Turn the carriage around.” Princess Xinyang ordered Yu Jin.
Yu Jin relayed the command to the coachman.
As soon as the carriage turned around, the quiet Little Yiyi in her arms clenched her fists and burst out crying!
Princess Xinyang stomped her foot in anger.
In the end, the carriage still stopped near the military camp.
At this hour, the civil officials had already left for the day, but the military officers, who finished later, had their carriages lined up along both sides of the road. Princess Xinyang deliberately chose a spot that was inconspicuous, and for the moment, no one noticed anything unusual.
Little Yiyi nestled obediently in her mother’s arms, waiting for her father.
At last, Marquis Xuanping came out.
“It’s Lord Marquis!” Yu Jin peeked through the crack in the rear curtain. “It seems there’s someone with him? It’s… General Qian?”
General Qian was a military officer in the court, formerly a subordinate of the late Old Marquis. Recently, he had been transferred to the Western Camp of the capital.
“Wait a little longer.” Princess Xinyang said.
She did not want anyone to know she had come looking for Xiao Ji.
The two men chatted and laughed together for a while, when suddenly General Qian mentioned inviting Marquis Xuanping to Soft Fragrance Pavilion to listen to music.
Soft Fragrance Pavilion was a famous brothel in the capital, on par with Heavenly Music House, filled with beauties of the highest order.
“Recently, quite a few lovely girls have arrived at Soft Fragrance Pavilion. I dare to invite Your Lordship to go hear a few songs.” General Qian said with a broad smile.
Yu Jin quietly glanced at her princess, but Princess Xinyang’s expression did not change in the slightest.
She whispered, “Princess.”
Princess Xinyang said with firm conviction, “He won’t agree. He still has to go back to coax Yiyi.”
And then Marquis Xuanping stepped into General Qian’s carriage.
After the two of them left, Yu Jin hardly dared to breathe.
“Back to the mansion!” Princess Xinyang said coldly.
“Sh-shouldn’t we follow and take a look?” Yu Jin asked in a low voice.
Princess Xinyang said irritably, “What’s there to see? If he wants to go to the brothel, am I supposed to stop him? He can go wherever he pleases, it has nothing to do with me!”
Little Yiyi, perhaps sensing her mother’s killing aura, sat perfectly still for once, not crying to look for her father.
Half an hour later.
Princess Xinyang’s carriage stopped at the entrance of Soft Fragrance Pavilion.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
