Purple Bamboo Grove.
Inside a well-lit hall, the Imperial Advisor sat kneeling across from an elderly man with a white beard, both engrossed in a game of Go.
That elderly man was none other than Old Master Meng, the Chess Saint of the Six States.
Old Master Meng placed a white stone on the board and sighed. "Ah, what terrible timing. Even I can’t leave now."
The Imperial Advisor gave a faint smile and placed a black stone in response. "Isn’t that perfect? Stay and accompany me for three days and three nights of battle."
Old Master Meng snorted. "That’s a pretty good deal for you."
The Imperial Advisor merely chuckled without responding and continued playing.
Old Master Meng, still lighthearted, asked, "Aren’t you worried?"
"Worried about what?" The Imperial Advisor replied.
Old Master Meng’s gaze deepened as he said, "Worried that the Imperial Advisor’s Hall—the place built up by that person—will be destroyed at your hands."
The Imperial Advisor’s hand, which had been holding a Go stone, paused for a brief moment.
After a long silence, he finally placed his piece on the board. "It won’t. Even if Great Yan perishes, the Imperial Advisor’s Hall will not fall."
……
As the sun set, Little Jing Kong, who had spent the entire day running around outside with Long Yi, finally returned home, drenched in sweat.
Gu Jiao was in the courtyard sorting medicinal herbs when he ran straight into her arms. "JiaoJiao, I’m so tired~"
Gu Jiao picked up a cloth and gently wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Then next time, do you still want to go out and play with Long Yi?"
Little Jing Kong responded immediately, "Yes!"
Gu Jiao couldn’t help but smile.
With an air of great importance, Little Jing Kong lifted his chin and exposed his little neck. "And here too!"
Gu Jiao wiped the back of his neck as well.
Suddenly recalling something, Little Jing Kong tilted his head and asked, "But JiaoJiao, why does Long Yi keep spacing out?"
Gu Jiao was slightly taken aback. "Hmm?"
Little Jing Kong raised his small hand and pointed toward the roof.
Following his gesture, Gu Jiao looked up and saw Long Yi sitting cross-legged on the eaves, his silhouette outlined against the twilight. The evening breeze gently lifted his jet-black hair, and the remnants of the setting sun cast a lonely shadow across his tall figure.
In his hand, he held the black jade thumb ring.
Gu Jiao understood; he was once again lost in thoughts about who he really was.
……
In the dead of night, when all was silent.
One, two, three heads cautiously peeked out from the alleyway diagonally across from the Crown Prince Estate.
The lowest head belonged to Gu Chengfeng.
The highest one was Long Yi’s.
Gu Jiao widened her eyes, taking in the sight of the imperial guards surrounding the Crown Prince Estate so densely that not even a drop of water could escape. Blinking, she remarked, "Hmm, that’s quite a lot of people."
Gu Chengfeng felt a headache coming on. "Are you sure we can snatch the Crown Prince right under the noses of so many imperial guards?"
No matter how skilled the three of them were, there was no way they could take on an entire army.
Gu Jiao replied, "Who said we’re going into the Crown Prince Estate to grab him? Little Nine!"
Little Nine swooped down from midair and, with a sharp whistling sound, darted straight into the Crown Prince Estate!
At this moment, the hour of haishi(9-11pm) had already passed, and the people in the Crown Prince Estate were gradually retiring for the night. However, Crown Prince Shangguan Qi, too excited to sleep, had gone to his study instead.
He never could have imagined, even in his dreams, that his fortunes would change so swiftly! A complete reversal of fate in the blink of an eye!
He had thought that with Shangguan Yan obstructing him, he would have to endure several years of silence before he could rise again——
"Indeed, Heaven is on my side!"
The Crown Prince could not suppress his smile. Even his attitude toward the guards at the door became noticeably friendlier. "It’s already late. You should all go rest as well."
The guards cupped their fists in unison. "Your Highness, we are not tired."
"There are so many imperial guards outside keeping watch. No one will be able to break in."
"Your Highness is right, but... it is always better to be cautious."
The Crown Prince was so elated that he had nearly let his joy cloud his judgment. Upon hearing the guard’s words, he calmed down slightly.
That was true. The more critical the moment, the more careful he needed to be.
"Your Highness, you should rest. Don’t you have to attend court early tomorrow morning?"
At this reminder, the Crown Prince’s smile deepened.
That’s right. He could attend court again.
Those who had been waiting to see him and the Han Family make a fool of themselves were going to be utterly shocked!
But at this moment, he truly could not sleep. He took out a few books, intending to review the principles of governance.
Suddenly, a large bird landed on his windowsill.
The Crown Prince was about to call for his guards when he noticed that the bird was surprisingly well-behaved, showing no signs of aggression.
Moreover, the bird extended one of its claws in an almost human-like manner, its arrogant expression seeming to say, Prepare to receive an imperial decree.
Why do I feel like this bird has expressions? Am I losing my mind?
The Crown Prince’s gaze landed on the bird’s claw, where he unexpectedly saw a note tied to it.
"A message from the Han Family?"
Muttering to himself, the Crown Prince glanced at Little Nine. Since when had the Han Family stopped using carrier pigeons and started using gyrfalcon instead?
With a stomach full of doubts, the Crown Prince untied the note and unfolded it. The message was written in bold black ink on white paper:
"Come to the cold palace immediately. Disguise yourself. Do not let anyone notice."
There was no signature.
But the Crown Prince recognized the handwriting—it undoubtedly belonged to his imperial noble consort mother.
Why was his imperial noble consort mother summoning him to the cold palace at such a late hour, and even instructing him to come in disguise?
Had something happened?
No, something wasn’t right. That morning, his imperial noble consort mother had specifically sent word, telling him not to go to the cold palace under any circumstances and not to be too hasty in gathering officials to plead for her.
The Crown Prince stared at the note. "Something is off."
……
In a secluded alley.
Gu Chengfeng’s neck was about to snap. "Can you two not put all your weight on me?!"
Gu Jiao replied matter-of-factly, "No."
Long Yi: Bleh.
Gu Chengfeng: "..."
His expression darkened as his slender neck bore a weight it was never meant to endure at his age.
"Hmm, why isn’t he coming out yet?" Gu Jiao asked.
"Could it be that he noticed something suspicious?" Gu Chengfeng speculated. "We don’t know if Han shi gave him any prior instructions. If she explicitly told him she wouldn’t contact him, he might not fall for the trap so easily——"
Before he could finish his sentence, Long Yi suddenly straightened up, his sharp gaze locking onto a certain direction in the night.
Gu Jiao also straightened up.
With the two heavyweights off his back, Gu Chengfeng immediately felt his neck lighten, his breathing suddenly much easier.
"Long Yi, what’s wrong?" Gu Jiao asked.
Without a word, Long Yi grabbed Gu Jiao and shot forward, vanishing into the night.
Gu Chengfeng quickly activated his qinggong and followed after them.
The three of them arrived at the back gate of the Crown Prince Estate, just in time to see an inconspicuous servant’s carriage slowly rolling out.
The coachman was dressed as a eunuch, but in reality, he was a highly skilled death warrior.
Gu Jiao’s lips curled into a smirk.
It seemed the Crown Prince had taken the bait.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
