After nightfall, Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng changed into night suits, donned masks, and under the cover of darkness, made their way to the cold palace.
Gu Chengfeng, who was already familiar with the place, easily located the dog hole from last time.
At first, Gu Jiao was puzzled. Since Gu Chengfeng had such excellent qinggong skills, why hadn’t he simply taken Shangguan Yan and vaulted over the wall? But when she reached the base of the wall and noticed the barely visible strands of silk above, she immediately understood.
Gu Chengfeng whispered, “That’s snow silkworm thread. It’s incomparably sharp. If someone accidentally runs into it, they’ll be sliced into pieces instantly. I don’t even know how high the highest strands go, and I’m afraid of missing one. If I try to fly over, I might only end up with half a body left.”
“Looks like crawling is really the only way.” Gu Jiao said.
“I’ll go first.” Gu Chengfeng lay flat on the ground, crawled through, and only after ensuring it was safe did he signal Gu Jiao to follow.
Once both of them were inside, they stood up and patted the dust off their clothes.
Gu Chengfeng remarked, “You know, the Emperor should’ve known that Shangguan Yan loves squeezing through this dog hole. Yet he didn’t seal it up. Did he leave it open just so she could use it to sneak out and have fun? If he doted on her so much, why did he end up hurting her back then?”
Gu Jiao replied flatly, “Don’t try to figure out a man’s heart.”
Gu Chengfeng: “…”
Scanning their surroundings, Gu Chengfeng turned to Gu Jiao and said, “That expert must be stationed right by Han shi’s side. In a moment, I’ll lure him away while you go and rescue the Emperor.”
Gu Jiao asked, “Can you really lure him away?”
Gu Chengfeng patted his small chest confidently, “I am Fei Shuang, the number one thief in the State of Zhao! Just because my martial arts aren’t as good as yours, don’t assume that all my other skills are inferior too. Just watch and learn how I’ll draw him away.”
There was no better plan at the moment. Gu Jiao thought for a moment and then said seriously, “You are not allowed to engage him in a fight.”
Gu Chengfeng chuckled. “Relax, I’m a thief, not a bandit. I don’t engage in direct combat. Running away is my specialty. But let me make this clear, if that guy is really as formidable as you say, I might not be able to hold him off for long. One incense stick’s time… that’s all you have.”
Gu Jiao nodded. “Alright.”
Gu Chengfeng turned to leave.
“Gu Chengfeng.” Gu Jiao called after him, “Be careful. If you get yourself killed, I won’t be avenging you.”
Gu Chengfeng curled his lips. “Tsk, heartless!”
Gu Chengfeng used his qinggong to swiftly fly toward Han shi’s courtyard.
Gu Jiao followed closely behind, keeping a sharp eye on any movements in the night.
To be honest, she was not entirely confident about this plan. After all, An Hun was an extremely formidable expert. Would he really fall for Gu Chengfeng’s trick so easily?
Would he not suspect that someone who did not even dare to fight him head-on was actually using a diversion tactic against him?
Even if An Hun did not figure it out, would Han shi, with her scheming mind honed in palace intrigue, really be deceived?
It was unlikely that Han shi would be easily fooled. However, Gu Chengfeng was lucky. At that moment, Han shi had gone to the underground chamber to visit the Emperor.
An Hun remained alone in the courtyard, standing guard.
Gu Chengfeng concealed his presence completely.
Since coming to Great Yan, not only had Gu Changqing and Gu Jiao improved their skills, but Gu Chengfeng had also grown significantly stronger through countless injuries and battles. His qinggong had reached a whole new level.
He quietly waited for his opportunity.
Gu Jiao’s guess was right; an expert of An Hun’s caliber would never fall for such a simple diversion. Unless——
He actually wanted to kill Gu Chengfeng.
Gu Chengfeng lay in wait in the darkness for nearly fifteen minutes when suddenly, An Hun turned and headed for the latrine.
Now was the time!
As An Hun loosened his belt, his vigilance instinctively dropped. In that instant, Gu Chengfeng shot out three plum-blossom darts.
To hell with you, An Hun!
Go and be Eunuch An Hun instead!
Gu Chengfeng had been secretly learning tricks from Lady Nan recently. The overwhelming killing intent in the attack made An Hun’s hairs stand on end. His entire body tensed up in a defensive reaction to the imminent threat.
And then—he couldn’t pee anymore.
An Hun: “……!!”
“No way! He dodged even that? This guy is a total monster… Ahhhh—”
An Hun lunged toward Gu Chengfeng, his killing intent surging.
Gu Chengfeng turned and ran for his life!
Damn it! Why is this An Hun so fast?!
Stinky girl! There was no way I could hold him off for a full incense stick’s time—at best, I could manage half!
Behind a large tree, Gu Jiao saw the two figures disappear into the night. She did not dare waste a single second and immediately rushed toward Han shi’s courtyard.
At this moment, Han shi was in the underground chamber, holding an oil lamp in her hand.
Although it was a cellar, it had all the necessary furnishings, though somewhat crude. The space resembled a simple commoner’s dwelling rather than a prison.
And the two of them looked just like an ordinary married couple from the common folk.
The Emperor had been drugged with a muscle-weakening powder and lay helplessly on the rough wooden bed.
Han shi sat on a stool by the bed, looking at him with a half-smile. “Your Majesty, don’t blame me. I told you before, it was you who forced me to do this.”
The Emperor glared at her coldly. The first time Han shi had drugged him, she had used too much of the muscle-weakening powder, rendering him not only unable to move but also making his throat go numb.
Han shi chuckled. “Rest assured, Your Majesty, I have no intention of killing you.”
“…Han… shi…” The Emperor gritted out her name with great difficulty.
He had never imagined that this venomous woman would be audacious enough to imprison the Son of Heaven himself. This was an act even more shocking than Xuanyuan Family’s rebellion!
At least the Xuanyuan Family had the courage and the strength to attempt such a thing. But Han shi? She was nothing more than a concubine from the inner palace!
Did she really think that his disappearance would go unnoticed?
Seeing the ridicule in his eyes, Han shi smiled faintly and said, “Your Majesty need not worry. No one will know where you’ve gone. In fact, no one has even realized you are missing.”
The Emperor’s face darkened as he looked at her with a mix of wariness and confusion.
Han shi’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Last night, Your Majesty came to my cold palace for a short visit before returning to your chambers. This morning, you attended court as usual. In the afternoon, you met with the military officials to discuss important matters. And this evening, you spent an hour reviewing memorandums in your bedchamber.”
The Emperor’s expression changed drastically. His lips trembled as he struggled to speak, “You… you…”
Han shi’s smile deepened with disdain. “That’s right. I found someone to take Your Majesty’s place. Surprised? I originally summoned Your Majesty to the cold palace to give you one final chance. If you had even once said that you trusted me, I wouldn’t have done this.”
"Actually, I also considered using Gu poison or some kind of drug on Your Majesty. But in the end, those things would inevitably harm the body. I care about Your Majesty and cannot bear to see you suffer that kind of pain."
A chilling sensation surged through the Emperor’s heart.
Why had he not realized sooner that this venomous woman was, in fact, a complete lunatic?
Han shi caught every trace of disgust in the Emperor’s eyes. Her smile instantly vanished, and she spoke coldly, “No matter how much Your Majesty loathes me, no one is coming to rescue you! You had best accept your fate!”
With that, she stood up, her face icy, and swept her sleeves as she strode away!
Not long after she left, a small figure quietly slipped into the underground chamber.
The Emperor tensed, his eyes full of vigilance as the figure swiftly approached his bedside. Just as he was about to speak, Gu Jiao knocked him out with a single blow!
The Emperor: "……"
Without hesitation, Gu Jiao hoisted him onto her shoulder and, in a few swift movements, disappeared into the night!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
