Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
Gu Jiao’s acting wasn’t particularly impressive; often, it was overly exaggerated and broke the immersion for the audience. However, her performance in action sequences was truly unparalleled.
Every move and technique was executed with such precision and fluidity that it left everyone utterly captivated, unable to hold back their excitement.
The leader of the embroidered-uniform guards coughed awkwardly, muttering, “Uh, something about this doesn’t feel quite right.”
“What are you standing there for? Hurry up and help!” The Crown Prince finally snapped out of his daze. To be honest, he was still a little disoriented, mainly because Xiao Heng and his group’s acting was just too convincing, making the situation feel incredibly real. The Crown Prince himself almost fell for it.
For a moment, he truly believed he had witnessed the Emperor and Shangguan Yan encountering an accident. He felt as though his dawn had arrived, and he was about to ascend the throne!
——This showed the importance of actors and a good script.
Of course, he hadn’t completely lost his sanity yet, nor did he have the courage to harm his own father.
The leader of the embroidered-uniform guards received the order and charged toward Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng.
Gu Chengfeng’s lips curled into a smirk, saying, “Perfect timing! You’re here to help me! Let's kill him together! Let’s take down that old fool of an Emperor!”
The leader of the embroidered-uniform guards stumbled in shock.
The heck! I’m not here to help you! I’m here to kill you!
Gu Chengfeng refused to accept this. Nope, you came to help!
A chaotic three-way battle ensued. At this moment, the Emperor’s full attention was on Shangguan Yan, leaving him no time to notice the skirmish among the three.
“Just like that! Kill Xiao Liulang!” Gu Chengfeng caught the leader’s sword with both hands and shouted without hesitation.
The leader of the embroidered-uniform guards was enraged. “Stop acting already!”
Gu Chengfeng sighed dramatically. “You’ve seen through me. Fine, I admit I’m slightly injured and can’t continue channeling my internal force. Well then, I’ll leave the rest to you while I retreat to heal!”
The leader’s body trembled in disbelief. What on earth is this nonsense?!
Seizing the opportunity, Gu Chengfeng stepped aside, and Gu Jiao swiftly dealt with the leader of the embroidered-uniform guards.
Next up was Gu Chengfeng. He couldn’t be left alive as there could be no witnesses.
Gu Jiao snatched the long sword from his hand, spun gracefully, and thrust it toward his abdomen. The hidden blood packet burst open instantly, and Gu Chengfeng discreetly slid a small blood capsule into his mouth.
Biting down on the capsule, he spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed to the ground… “dying with unresolved grievances.”
Finally, Gu Jiao pointed her sword at the Crown Prince’s neck.
“Stop!” Xiao Heng called out sternly, his expression grave. “Young Master Xiao, please leave His Highness the Crown Prince to my imperial grandfather for judgment.”
On the other side, Shangguan Yan’s head lolled to the side in the Emperor’s arms, her arm hanging limply.
The Emperor’s face turned pale with panic. “Yan’er! Yan’er!”
Gu Jiao discarded her sword and strode over quickly, kneeling on one knee. “Let me take a look.”
She placed her fingers on Shangguan Yan’s neck and said, “She’s still breathing. It seems she’s fainted due to excessive blood loss. Her condition is extremely critical; we must stop the bleeding immediately.”
The Emperor's active punishment of Shangguan Yan and his passive observation of her injury were two completely different states of mind. One was a certainty that Shangguan Yan's life would not be in danger, while the other left everything to fate.
Forcing himself to stay calm, the Emperor shouted, “Where is the Imperial Advisor? Imperial Advisor! Open the door! Summon the Imperial Advisor immediately!”
Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng exchanged a subtle glance.
Xiao Heng spoke, "I’ll go see how the door opens. Young Master Xiao, please, you must find a way to stop the bleeding for my mother!"
According to the plan, this door was supposed to be "impossible to open." The goal was to immerse the Emperor in this atmosphere, to make him feel the anger of being betrayed by his son, the pain of his daughter sacrificing herself to save him, and the overwhelming guilt for all the wrongs he had done to his daughter.
Only in this state of mind would the Emperor make the most impulsive punishment against the Crown Prince.
“Leave her to me.” Gu Jiao said to the Emperor.
The Emperor’s hands trembled as he passed the blood-soaked Shangguan Yan to Gu Jiao.
Gu Jiao gently laid her on the floor. "My clothes are wet, and it’s inconvenient for me to treat the patient’s wounds. I ask that Your Majesty kindly lend me your robes."
Without a word, the Emperor swiftly removed his bright yellow dragon robe and handed it to Gu Jiao.
Even the priceless dragon robe, a symbol of his imperial status, was offered up without hesitation. This was a clear sign that the Emperor was truly committed to this.
Gu Jiao, however, didn’t feel any pity for the Emperor’s dragon robe. For the Emperor to truly pay the price for Shangguan Yan, the cost must be significant, the sacrifice must be high—only then would the lesson truly be unforgettable.
Gu Jiao tore the dragon robe apart with a sharp ripping sound.
Remember this moment, Emperor of Great Yan. This will stand as proof of your love for Shangguan Yan. When you look back on this day in the future, you must be moved to tears by your actions.
Now, hurry up and deal with the Crown Prince.
The atmosphere in this secret chamber was suffocating.
“Imperial Advisor, how do we open this door? Can you push it open from the outside?” Xiao Heng stood behind the iron door, his tone filled with urgency.
In reality, the mechanism for the iron door had been locked by Gu Chengfeng, making it impossible to open from the outside.
Outside the door, Ye Qing cast a complicated glance at the Imperial Advisor.
The Imperial Advisor responded calmly, “We’re working on it. Hold on a little longer inside.”
Ye Qing’s eyes widened in surprise.
Xiao Heng called out, “Please hurry! My mother’s injuries are too severe; she won’t last much longer!”
The Imperial Advisor replied with an indifferent tone, “Understood. Yu He, go find some tools to pry the door open.”
“Yes, Master!” Yu He dashed off without a moment’s hesitation, knowing a life was at stake.
This left Ye Qing staring at the Imperial Advisor in shock, wanting to speak but hesitating several times.
Outside the door, apart from them and the Imperial Advisor’s Hall’s death warriors and disciples, there were also over a dozen embroidered-uniform guards from the Crown Prince Estate.
Ye Qing decided to hold his questions until he could speak to his master in private.
Inside the secret chamber, the Emperor grew increasingly anxious upon hearing that the door couldn’t be opened anytime soon.
He turned to Gu Jiao and asked, “How is she? Has the bleeding stopped yet?"
Gu Jiao knelt beside Shangguan Yan, working tirelessly to stop the bleeding. Her face was smeared with Shangguan Yan’s blood, presenting a harrowing sight.
Gu Jiao replied, “Not yet. Her injuries are too severe, and without proper medicine and surgical tools, there’s no effective way to stop the bleeding!”
These words were the final straw, igniting the Emperor’s fury toward the Crown Prince to its peak.
He walked coldly toward the Crown Prince and said, "Zhen once thought you were kind and respectful, never deceitful in private, and among all the princes, you seemed to have the most genuine heart. Even Elder Yang praised your virtuous words and actions, your ability to remember the gap between you and others! You are neither the legitimate nor the eldest son, yet Zhen resolutely disregarded opposition and made you the Crown Prince of Great Yan. Over the years, Zhen has not been blind to the power plays you’ve made, both openly and secretly. Zhen allowed you to build your own influence, turning a blind eye to your attempts to win over the noble families. Zhen understands that I cannot confine you to being a ruler without ambition or opinions. As long as you don't go too far, Zhen has allowed you to use whatever means necessary. But Zhen never imagined that my leniency would only fuel your ambition! You’re not satisfied with being Crown Prince anymore, are you? You want to kill your father and seize the throne for yourself!"
The Emperor’s imposing aura was overwhelming. The Crown Prince’s legs gave out, and he collapsed to his knees with a thud. “Imperial father! I didn’t! I didn’t plan any regicide! I don’t even know who this Long Aotian is! Imperial father, if you don’t believe me, summon Pang Hai! He can prove that this man colluded with Xiao Liulang first before coming to my residence!”
The Emperor coldly pointed at Gu Chengfeng’s lifeless body on the ground. “How convenient, then, that Xiao Liulang was ambushed and just happened to be rescued by him.”
The Crown Prince froze.
The Emperor withdrew his hand with a flick of his sleeve, his voice sharp as ice. "You really think Zhen is getting old and confused? Can’t even see through your little tricks? It’s clear that you deliberately led this man to rescue Xiao Liulang, to get him close to Xiao Liulang, to make frequent visits to the Imperial Advisor's Hall. With Yan’er and Qing’er coincidentally living in Qilin Hall as well, a false impression arose that he had been too closely involved with the former Crown Princess and the Eldest Imperial Grandson. Your plan was so meticulously laid out that even the disciples of the Imperial Advisor's Hall became your witnesses!"
The Crown Prince was utterly stunned.
Even Gu Jiao was a bit taken aback.
Who would have thought the Emperor’s imagination was this vivid? Could Xiao Heng’s talent for scriptwriting be hereditary?
“Imperial father! I truly didn’t do it! Please believe me! I had nothing to do with today’s events! I knew nothing about them!”
The Emperor clearly didn’t believe him.
Gu Jiao hummed softly. Great Yan’s Emperor was indeed suspicious by nature.
Then again, without his suspicious nature, he wouldn’t have wiped out the Xuanyuan Family over a mere prophecy.
Everything in this world was a double-edged sword. The Emperor’s suspicious nature once harmed the Crown Princess and the Xuanyuan Family. Now, it was their turn.
The cycle of karma spares no one.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
