Don’t Be Mad
Xu Jiaojiao was in no hurry to leave. Her drawing was almost done. After a while, all the students around her left, leaving her sitting alone in the classroom to finish up the last bit of drawing. Finally, she slowly packed her things and left the room. When she reached the school gate, her phone rang.
It was a message from Su Luo, asking if she had finished class. She said that she was at the milk tea shop next door and asked if Xu Jiaojiao wanted to join her for some hotpot. It was probably her way of apologizing for how she had left Xu Jiaojiao alone last night.
Xu Jiaojiao agreed and quickened her pace. Just as she was about to look for Su Luo, she heard a familiar voice not far away. “Jiaojiao.”
Xu Jiaojiao turned around and saw Lu Zhuo getting out of the car and walking towards her. She could tell that he had specially dressed up. He was wearing a white shirt and gray trousers as he walked over with the sun against his back. He was so handsome that he attracted the attention of many people.
“Did you stay in the classroom to draw again?” Lu Zhuo’s voice was filled with a sense of familiarity, as though he knew Xu Jiaojiao all too
well.
His gentle words made it seem as if nothing had happened before.
Xu Jiaojiao nodded and asked, “What about it?” Her cold attitude took Lu Zhuo by surprise, and he could not help but laugh. “Are you still angry with me?” As soon as he finished speaking, he raised his hand to stroke Xu Jiaojiao’s head. However, before he could touch Xu Jiaojiao’s hair, Xu Jiaojiao took a step back and avoided his touch.
Lu Zhuo’s arm froze in mid-air, and the smile on his face gradually froze.
Xu Jiaojiao acted as if she did not notice Lu Zhuo’s actions and said indifferently, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave first.” After saying that, she turned around and left. Seeing that she really wanted to leave, Lu Zhuo could only suppress the strange emotions in his heart and promptly called out, “Jiaojiao.”
Xu Jiaojiao stopped in her tracks and turned around to look at him. Actually, she could more or less guess what Lu Zhuo wanted to say, but she did not want to hear it. From the day of the wedding, when he abandoned her for Bai Mengyao, she no longer had any expectations for him.
“Jiaojiao, I know that you’re very angry about what happened that day,” Lu Zhuo coaxed her patiently. “But you know that Bai Mengyao is my ex-girlfriend. Yes, we had some wonderful times together, but after that…” After pausing for a moment, he chose not to mention the unforgettable past and said to Xu Jiaojiao, “This time, when Bai Mengyao got into trouble overseas, it was the first time she called me for help. I couldn’t leave her alone.”
“So?” Xu Jiaojiao asked indifferently.
Her response was beyond his expectations. Lu Zhuo licked his lips in a panic and continued, “I’ve already settled the matter with Bai Mengyao. I promise that she will never appear between us again. Don’t be mad at me.”
Xu Jiaojiao nodded calmly. “I understand. Is there anything else?”
Lu Zhuo was stunned for a moment before he lost control of his emotions. There was panic and anger in his voice. “Jiaojiao, do you have to speak to me in such a tone?”
Xu Jiaojiao blinked her big eyes, not understanding why Lu Zhuo was suddenly angry. “Then what kind of tone do you want me to use to talk to you? Mr. Lu, our engagement has been annulled.”
In the past, Xu Jiaojiao would always stay by Lu Zhuo’s side and sweetly call him Big Brother Lu Zhuo. She would work hard to learn things that he was interested in, even if she did not care for them. She would play golf and learn how to taste red wine. No matter what he said, she would listen attentively and not do anything to make him unhappy. Even so, Lu Zhuo still easily abandoned her and went to look for Bai Mengyao.
The way she called him Mr. Lu and the mention of the annulment made Lu Zhuo’s expression turn ugly. He took a deep breath and suppressed his emotions as he said, “Jiaojiao, don’t be so childish. Do you think that just because you found a random man to join you at the altar on our wedding day, our engagement doesn’t count anymore? Jiaojiao, our engagement was set by the elders of our two families. It’s not something that you can annul just because you want to.”
Xu Jiaojiao looked at Lu Zhuo with a puzzled expression. She did not know if she had not said it clearly enough or if he simply did not understand.
Lu Zhuo took out a black velvet box from his pocket and opened it. Inside was a sparkling diamond necklace. “Jiaojiao, this is a gift I specially chose for you overseas. Don’t be mad. Don’t you like romantic weddings? Then let’s hold another…”
Seeing that Lu Zhuo was getting more and more ridiculous, Xu Jiaojiao quickly interrupted him. “Mr. Lu, my grandmother has already agreed to annul my engagement with you, so there’s really nothing between us anymore. As for this necklace, you can give it to anyone, but I won’t accept it.”
