Chapter 1754 -1747 Leng Muling in Danger

“Okay.”

Leng Muling agreed with a lightheartedness, and when she turned back to find Lu Mian, her steps were joyful.

The smile at the corners of her eyes was infectious, bringing joy to anyone who saw it.

“Just going to the bathroom makes you this happy?”

But Lu Mian’s heavy tone instantly froze the smile on her face.

Leng Muling immediately put on a cold face, ignored him, and got in the carriage to sit beside Lu’s mother.

However, Lu Mian sensed something was wrong. He got off his horse and also boarded the carriage.

Lu’s mother was talking with Leng Muling, holding her hand, when Lu Mian entered with a chill in the air and coldly questioned Leng Muling, “Where on earth did you go?”

Leng Muling snorted, “My stomach felt uncomfortable, of course I went to the bathroom, where else?”

“You were gone for a full half an hour, and nearby is the residence of the Imperial Guards’ commander.” Lu Mian’s eyes, sharp like a hawk’s, stared at Leng Muling, as if trying to see through her.

Leng Muling twisted the handkerchief in her hands hard, wishing she could start an argument with Lu Mian right then and there.

Lu’s mother held her down, then reproachfully scolded Lu Mian, “Zi Zhou, is this how you speak to your wife? Why are you doubting her without any reason?”

“Mother, you don’t know, her temperament is like Zhuo Jun Li, she might just do something to disgrace the family.” Lu Mian kept a stern face, his gaze fierce.

“Disgrace the family? If Lord Lu thinks I’m a disgrace, have the guts not to marry me, have the guts to divorce me!” Leng Muling glared at Lu Mian, unable to tolerate his anger even in front of Lu’s mother.

Lu’s mother was always strict with women, and if it were her daughter in the Lu Family, she would certainly scold her.

But now, she only admonished Lu Mian, “Do not use such a tone, if you cannot speak kindly to your wife, then dismount and ride your horse, do not glare at her here.”

Lu Mian shot Leng Muling a vicious look, warning her, “You better not let me catch you.”

Leng Muling rolled her eyes at him; they were like water and fire, completely incompatible.

Lu’s mother saw it all but said nothing.

They went to the temple to burn incense, and Leng Muling accompanied Lu’s mother to ask for two blessings of peace before planning to return.

But when they got on the carriage and were descending the mountain, the horse suddenly bolted wildly, tossing the driver off the horse, and the carriage charged toward the other side of the road, rushing into a patch of waist-high grass.

Lu’s mother was frightened, being tossed around inside the carriage.

Leng Muling steadied herself and looked out the window, seeing a steep slope ahead; if they were to roll down the slope in the carriage, they would surely be shattered to pieces.

Leng Muling dove back inside and grabbed hold of Lu’s mother, “Mother, jump! Quickly, jump with me!”

Lu’s mother was terrified out of her wits, “What? Jump?”

She had never encountered such a perilous situation and dared not jump.

But Leng Muling, quick and decisive, dragged her out, holding onto her as they jumped off the hurtling carriage.

To prevent Lu’s mother from getting hurt, she cushioned her fall completely.

With Leng Muling’s buffer, Lu’s mother wasn’t much hurt; she tumbled with Leng Muling a few times, just feeling somewhat dizzy and disoriented.

She collapsed on the ground, gradually coming to her senses.

Beside her, Leng Muling was in pain, clutching her leg, the rims of her eyes red.

“Child, what’s wrong?” Lu’s mother propped herself up and hurriedly held Leng Muling.

She drew Leng Muling into her arms, only to see her palm covered in red; Leng Muling’s backcloth was torn, spotted with blood.
