Here They Come
When Su Ying and Xiao Jin came out of the room, Zhang Shan and the others had already moved the wild boar onto the ox cart and covered it with straw.
“Brother Xiao, get in. We’re heading to town.”
...Xiao Jin nodded, and Su Ying carried him to the cart and sat down.
The ox-cart wasn’t huge. Only space was left for the two of them with the wild boar in.
There was no need for too many people to come and sell the pig. Zhang Shan alone would be enough.
“Young lady Su, Mr. Xiao, we don’t have particularly nice things in this village. You can take these pancakes for the road. I hope you can go back home as soon as possible, and don’t let your family worry.”
“Thank you, Auntie Wang.” Su Ying said as she took the pancakes. “We’ll remember your family’s kindness.”
Auntie Wang smiled and shook her head. “We met by chance. Who knows what the future holds? I’m happy enough for doing some good.”
“Mother, we’ll be leaving then.” Zhang Shan jumped onto the ox cart.
“Go. Be careful on the road.”
“Sure.”
After sending Su Ying and the others off, Auntie Wang went to Zhang Shan’s room to tidy up. Unexpectedly, she found a few pieces of silver on the table. She knew that Su Ying must have left it. The ox cart had long disappeared when she took the silver and chased after them.
“Mother, what’s the matter?”
Auntie Wang looked at the silver in her hand and sighed. “Mr. Xiao and young lady Su only stayed for a simple meal at our house and rested for a night. How can I accept so much silver? ”
A few taels of silver was a large amount, equivalent to one or two years of harvest for an ordinary farmer.
“Mother, since they gave it to us, let’s take it. You accept it, and yang Lady Su can be at ease.”
Auntie Wang shook her head. That Mr. Xiao had an extraordinary aura. Even with his legs broken, his aura was not weakened at all. These two were not ordinary people.
Su Ying found out from Zhang Shan that they lived in a remote mountain village outside Yunshui City. Because it was pretty remote, Zhang Shan had not known what Yunshui City looked like since he was born. It would take half a day to walk from the village to the nearest county town, let alone to Yunshui.
“Mr. Xiao, don’t worry. When we reach the county town, you can hire a carriage. It will take less than a day to get to Yunshui.”
“Good.”
Although the ox cart was bumpy, the journey was smooth. They arrived at the county town before noon.
After they got into the town, Su Ying jumped off the ox cart and helped Xiao Jin down.
“Many thanks, Brother Zhang, for taking us here.” Xiao Jin said gratefully.
Zhang Shan smiled embarrassedly. “It’s nothing. It’s nothing. It’s just that I can’t send you back home. The place over there is where you can hire a carriage. Why don’t I sell the wild boar and find you one?”
Xiao Jin refused. “Brother Zhang, I’m grateful enough that you took us here.”
“Alright then. Take care on the road.” Zhang Shan was in a hurry to sell his pig, so he left after saying goodbye to them.
Su Ying was worried about the children, so she carried Xiao Jin on her back and went to the carriage rental place.
“We don’t have a pass. If you want to buy anything, buy it here. We can’t enter Yunshui City without a pass.” Xiao Jin said as soon as they reached the end of the street.
“You’ve reminded me. I’ll hire a carriage first. You wait for me in the carriage, and I’ll buy stuff.”
Xiao Jin nodded.
After Xiao Jin found an experienced driver, he got into an old-looking black-shed carriage.
Su Ying went shopping. She didn’t dare to spend too much time and wanted to save some money just in case. She bought some food ingredients and rice and got on the carriage.
Xiao Jin shifted to leave more space when he saw she carried a few bags.
Su Ying placed the two packets of desserts on top of the bags. “These desserts are for Ling and the others. I don’t know how she’s been these past two days. She’ll probably be heartbroken to learn that you fell into the water. And Ji, he hasn’t recovered from his injury yet…”
Su Ying’s words made Xiao Jin frown. He was also the most worried about the two children.
Along the way, both were worried, hoping to meet up with the group as soon as possible.
Not long after the carriage left the county town, the sky became gloomy, and it looked like it was going to rain again. Su Ying remembered what He Shouyi had said before, so she bought two oil-paper umbrellas and bamboo hats.
Surely enough, it started to rain not long after.
Su Ying’s brows furrowed even more when she heard the rain. “Do you think we’ll encounter a flood if we continue to head southwest?” The team couldn’t take the official road, so they had to walk through the wilderness. If there were too much rain, the mountain would become loose and may cause a landslide, significantly increasing the risk factor.
“It’s possible.”
Considering this, Su Ying wished she could grow a pair of wings and fly over to join the team.
“There’s no point worrying too much. Let’s rest first and get ready for changes.” Seeing her worry, Xiao Jin spoke indifferently.
Su Ying nodded and closed her eyes in a comfortable position.
When Su Ying opened her eyes, she saw the city gate not far away.
“Is that Yunshui City?”
Xiao Jin nodded.
The cart went faster than they had expected. Nevertheless, it was already the next morning.
“My two guests, do you want to enter the city or get off outside?” The driver’s voice came from outside.
Su Ying looked at the sky. She didn’t know when the group would arrive.
“Uncle, would you sell this cart?” she asked.
“Madam, you want to buy a cart?”
Su Ying looked at Xiao Jin. “What do you think? If it keeps raining, it’ll be better to have a cart for you and the children.”
Xiao Jin paused and looked at her deeply. “You really do care about the children.”
Su Ying raised her eyebrows. “Of course. Let’s buy it.”
In fact, Su Ying already had this idea when she left the county town. She jumped out of the carriage and negotiated with the driver. After all, she didn’t have much money left.
In the end, it was sold for thirty taels.
The driver took the silver and went into the city.
Su Ying led the carriage to a big tree and tied the horse to it. She then returned to the carriage and rummaged through her bags. She found a packet of pancakes and opened it.
“Have something food.”
Xiao Jin shook his head. He had been in the cart for the past two days and had little appetite. “Based on their walking speed, they’ll reach Yunshui City today at the latest. If they hadn’t arrived yet, it was very likely that something had happened.”
Su Ying took a pancake and sat outside the carriage for a better view.
She bit into the pancake and suddenly missed He Shouyi’s egg pancake.
“Hurry up, all of you!”
A familiar voice made Su Ying jump down from the carriage. “Here they come!”
Xiao Jin lifted the curtain and saw Li Da leading the group of people over.
