Lu Xinyi felt the bed dip before Shen Yi put his face against her neck.
“Good morning, wife. It’s your big day today.”
“You don’t have to remind me.”
“It’s time for you to get up,” he murmured against her skin.
She groaned and grabbed a pillow to cover her face.
“Five more minutes. I’m tired.”
“You aren’t the only one.” Shen Yi grinned before placing a chaste kiss on her shoulder.
“I told you it’s a bad idea to do it on the eve of my examination day.” Lu Xinyi groaned. “How could I walk properly later? This is all your fault, Shen Yi!”
“Hey, you weren’t complaining last night, and it’s your fault for being irresistible. You don’t think I was tired?”
Lu Xinyi moved the pillow away from her face and rolled to the other side to face her husband.
“What? Are you telling me that little Yi got more than he can handle last night?”
“Little Yi?”
Shen Yi gave her a deadpanned look before pushing the pillow back on her face. Lu Xinyi laughed out loud and pushed away, only to be tickled again by her husband. He then kissed her lips slowly, with her arms winding themselves around his neck. She pulled away when she noticed that he was already dressed and prepared for work.
“What time is it?” she asked.
“Nine. You still have time to prepare and eat breakfast.”
Lu Xinyi released him and stared blankly on the ceiling.
“I’ll make it right? I can pass the exams today.” She sat up and wrapped the blanket around her nude form. Somehow, their lovemaking from last night had helped her forget her nervousness about her exams.
“I believe in you,” Shen Yi held her hand with his, “You’ve spent forever in our kitchen, trying to find the right techniques for the simplest recipes you can think of. You’ve spent sleepless nights just to deal with math. Believe in yourself, Xinyi. Just do your best. Whatever what the results are, you know you’re always number one for us.”
—
Shen Yi silently drove his car to Silver Leaf Academy. Lu Xinyi wanted to laugh at his slightly sullen face. He’d wanted to wait for her until she finished her exams, but his company had called him for an important meeting again.
“Are you still upset that Qiao He didn’t cancel your appointments?”
He gave her a brief glance before returning it to the road ahead of them. ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
“I specifically told him to cancel all of it for this day, and yet he failed to do this one,” he hissed.
“Ah, poor hubby. Come here so I can give you a kiss.” Lu Xinyi leaned forward and pulled his face to place a kiss on his cheek.
“Xinyi, as much as I want to kiss you, I don’t want to get involved in an accident while driving.” He kept his eyes on the road and pushed her gently away from him.
“And then I’ll get amnesia and forget about you? And then my asshole family would treat me as Cinderella while you try to convince me that you’re my prince charming?” she stated with barely contained laughter.
A few giggles slipped out of her lips while Shen Yi gave her a flat look.
As he parked the car two blocks away from the academy, Lu Xinyi unbuckled her seatbelt so she could turn towards him. “How about I make you a special dinner tonight? Would that make you happy?”
Shen Yi leaned back into his seat. “Every moment being with you is already special.”
Lu Xinyi’s cheeks were tinged with a blush. Oh, how easy for him to make her feel loved. She twirled some locks of her hair and shyly looked up at him.
“Well, this is our last night before the twins come back. I want to make it special with you.”
He gently tugged her hand away from her hair and tilted her chin up to kiss her. Humor came into his eyes. “Surprise me then.”
“I should go.”
Shen Yi’s eyes turned to the clock on his car. “You should. You are going to be late for the first part of your exam.”
“Wish me luck, my love.” Lu Xinyi opened the car door. As she rounded the front of the car, her husband called out from his window.
“What time to do you think you’ll be done?”
Lu Xinyi walked to him and folded her arms over his rolled window. She shrugged. “I’m not really sure. Why?”
“I want to be one to pick you up here once you’re done. Give me a call later.”
A small smile appeared on her face, the smile he always wanted to see from her.
“Okay, but you really don’t have to force yourself to leave your meeting early if I finish before you.”
When she leaned in to peck his cheek again, he quickly turned his head so she would kiss his lips instead. Lu Xinyi squeaked out loud at the sudden touch of their lips, with her head jolting upward, hitting it on the edge of his car door.
“Oww.” Her hands came up to cradle the small bump that might rise from her head. “You rascal! Do you want me to lose some brain cells before my exams?!” She glared at her husband who was trying his best to cover up his laughter with one hand.
“Are you alright?” he asked, “Do I need to kiss you to make it better?”
“You mean ‘kiss it’, mister!” she corrected him. “And no, that would be the last time I will kiss you in an open window.” She huffed. Fuck, how did the popular movies make it seem so romantic and safe when in reality, it was dangerous for one’s brain?
“But I mean what I said,” he grinned and let her go.
Lu Xinyi said a quick goodbye and puffed her cheeks once she reached the entrance of the academy.
