Chapter 2912: Mountain God Petra

Chapter 2912: Mountain God Petra

Date: Unspecified

Time: Unspecified

Location: Myriad Realms, Card World, Southern Region, Blossom District, Sky Blossom City, TSR Tower, Basement

"Don’t worry about her. Think of it like those long dumps you humans have every day," Petra said, trying to console Cortney, who hadn’t left Bloodette’s side ever since she began purging her emotions. "The only difference is that she’s dumping thousands of years’ worth of unresolved trauma and bottled-up sadness all at once. Honestly, you should be grateful it’ll probably only take anywhere from a few weeks to a few decades."

Cortney’s expression twitched slightly after hearing Petra’s words while standing in a knee-high pool of blood.

Nearby, Bloodette floated limply across the crimson pool like a drifting corpse while endless blood tears continued falling from her eyes. The tears in space around them kept pouring fresh blood into the basement faster than the drainage system could flush it away, gradually turning the entire underground chamber into a miniature lake of blood.

Oddly enough, the environment didn’t bother Cortney at all. If anything, it actually benefited her comprehension of Blood Rules.

Since there was nothing she could do to comfort Bloodette anyway, Cortney decided she might as well focus on improving her own understanding of blood rule while remaining by her side.

It wasn’t easy.

Bloodette’s endless crying echoed throughout the chamber while the woman herself floated silently within the sea of blood like some tragic spirit drowned in grief. The atmosphere was oppressive enough to make ordinary people lose their minds.

Yet despite the distraction, Cortney still forced herself to calm her breathing and focus on comprehending the Blood Rule. There was a very good reason for her persistence.

Cortney could clearly feel through her connection with Bloodette that while she cried, for reasons unknown, her comprehension of the Blood Rule increased at an absurd rate. And with that growing comprehension, her realm was rising as well.

Bloodette had already stepped into the Card Emperor Realm, but now she could feel the latter rapidly filling the enormous chasm separating card emperor realm from demigod realm.

Cortney was genuinely afraid that if the gap between her and Bloodette grew too large, she would eventually be left behind. Especially with all the talk about Bloodette leaving for the Way Beyond together with Petra. She didn’t want to part with her best friend.

Also, Cortney didn’t want to become an anchor weighing her best friend down. She wanted to become strong enough to continue supporting Bloodette and accompany her on future adventures, just like Bloodette had supported her throughout the past few years.

That was why she desperately pushed herself to comprehend the Blood Rule despite the suffocating atmosphere around her.

"You look more worried than I am. Why?" Cortney suddenly asked after observing Petra carefully for a while. Only then did she realize Petra hadn’t really been trying to comfort her earlier. She had been trying to comfort herself. Clearly, something about Bloodette’s emotional purge deeply worried Petra, especially how long it might continue.

"Huh?" Petra tried to feign ignorance, but her eyes gave her away even though they were made of stone.

After a moment of silence, she shook her head and finally admitted, "Bloodette has a lot of enemies among the Supreme Beings. This bloodstorm has already revealed that she’s alive, and I’m worried now they’ll come looking for her."

"Well, you can relax a little. They won’t cross into the Five Regions because of the treaty they formed with our ancestors," Cortney reassured her.

She honestly wasn’t surprised Bloodette had enemies among the Supreme Beings. In fact, her other best friend had already warned her to keep an eye on Petra. The moment Petra heard him bring up Bloodette, the first thing she had said upon hearing Bloodette’s name was: I’ll kill her.

That alone told Cortney everything she needed to know about the kind of history Bloodette had with the supreme beings. They got along fine, until their ideals clashed.

"Treaty? That’s a joke. When have you card apprentice ever truly upheld it long enough to expect us to abide by it?"

Another voice suddenly echoed throughout the basement, mocking Cortney’s words with open disdain.

The blood-filled chamber instantly grew colder.

Cortney and Petra both snapped their heads toward the source of the voice just in time to see the surface of the blood pool ripple unnaturally. Then, from within the crimson liquid, water began rising upward against gravity itself.

The water twisted and condensed into the shape of a humanoid woman.

Long blue hair flowed behind her like moving ocean currents while droplets continuously drifted off her body and dissolved back into the surrounding blood. Despite standing in the middle of Bloodette’s pool of blood, not a single crimson stain touched her. It was as though the blood itself instinctively avoided contaminating her.

A manic smile spread across her face as she looked directly at the shell-shocked Petra and greeted, "Long time no see, Mountain God Petra."

"Aqualas!" Petra exclaimed in genuine shock, her stone eyes widening slightly for the first time since Cortney had met her.

Meanwhile, Cortney’s own heart nearly stopped. Her pupils shrank as realization dawned on her.

The woman standing before them was the Ocean Supreme, Aqualas. One of the major Supreme Beings who had personally led the ancient war against card apprentices alongside the other Supreme Beings.

Unlike other supreme beings whose stories had faded with time, Aqualas was considered a true nightmare in card apprentice history. Entire cities and districts had supposedly vanished beneath lakes she summoned during the war. Even now, stories about her survive in ancient forbidden records and old military teachings.

And now that terrifying existence was casually standing inside the TSR tower’s basement with the expression of someone who hadn’t just arrived at a social gathering.

Cortney’s heart suddenly hitched as a terrifying thought crossed her mind: Ocean Supreme Aqualas might be one of the Supreme Beings who still had unresolved scores to settle with Bloodette.

"I honestly didn’t believe Seraphina when she told me the great Mountain God Petra was working under a mere card apprentice," Aqualas said with a mocking smile while glancing around the blood-soaked basement. "I guess even the mighty will eventually fall."
