“Sister Wang, I’ll talk to you later, okay?”
“Alright, go ahead.”
The secretary hurried back to the meeting room, and the hallway fell silent again.
“It seems the meeting isn’t going very well.”
Lin Yi smiled and nodded, “Manager Wang, you can leave me here. You can go ahead and take care of your work.”
“Alright, I won’t disturb you, President Lin.”
After exchanging goodbyes, Wang Ning turned and left. Lin Yi glanced at the meeting room before heading to Shen Shuyi’s office.
About ten minutes later, the office door opened, and Shen Shuyi walked in.
She was dressed in a fitted black and white dress, with her hair neatly tied back, clearly having made an effort for the meeting.
She looked even younger than before.
Judging by her calm expression, the meeting didn’t seem to have affected her much.
When she saw Lin Yi in her office, she paused for a moment.
“I figured you’d show up here.”
“Aunt Shen guessed I’d come?”
“After Little Mi told me you were in Yanjing, I figured you’d stop by after you finished your business.”
“Aunt Shen, you’re always ahead of the curve!” Lin Yi chuckled. “I had some free time, so I picked up a perfume for you. I thought it would suit your style.”
“Save your sweet talk for my daughter, don’t try to charm me.”
Shen Shuyi didn’t look at him and instead busied herself with the computer, seemingly reviewing some documents.
“I’ll accept the perfume, but you came at a bad time. I have another meeting soon, and I’m not sure how long it will take. If you’re staying the night, come by tomorrow.”
“I have other things to do tomorrow. I’ll be leaving by noon, so I probably won’t be able to come back.”
Lin Yi glanced at the time. “It’s already past four. No matter how late it goes, it’ll eventually end, right? I’ve got nothing to do, so I’ll just wait here.”
“Alright,” Shen Shuyi checked her watch and said,
“The earliest I’ll be done is six. If you get hungry, feel free to grab something from the cafeteria. I’ve got to go now.”
“Aunt Shen, are those old-timers giving you a hard time?”
Shen Shuyi paused, glancing at him. “You already know?”
“I passed by the meeting room earlier, and it didn’t seem like things were going smoothly,” Lin Yi said.
“I can join you for the second half of the meeting.”
“I’ve been with the company for years. If I needed your help with something like this, it would mean I’ve lost my touch,” Shen Shuyi smiled.
“It’s just some minor issues. I can handle it, don’t worry.”
“Well, I’m just sitting around anyway. Tell me what’s going on. Maybe I can offer some advice.”
“It’s not about decision-making,” Shen Shuyi explained.
“They’re trying to seize power, to push me out of my position. These meetings have become impossible to hold. This happens four times a year, so I’m used to it.”
“But with your abilities, Aunt Shen, if they don’t have something against you, they wouldn’t dare oppose you in these meetings, right?”
Lin Yi knew Shen Shuyi’s personality. She was tough and didn’t back down when she was in the right.
If she had the upper hand, she wouldn’t give her opponents any opportunity.
“That’s why something like this is happening. Looks like they’ve caught her in a vulnerable spot.”
“A bunch of short-sighted fools. How could I let them catch me?” Shen Shuyi said.
“The disagreement mainly revolves around three of the company’s long-term investments, with a total scale exceeding one trillion yuan. But because they’ll incur losses in the early stages, they’ve all jumped in to oppose me.”
“What’s the timeline?”
“Ten years. The return starts in eight years, and the gross profit will be around 50 to 60 billion.”
“Uh…”
Lin Yi scratched his head. “Based on that alone, these projects don’t seem that great.”
“What if I told you one of the projects discovered a gold mine, another found a uranium mine, and the last one allows us to occupy a deep-water port for ten years under the guise of development? Still think these projects aren’t worth it?”
Hiss…
Hearing this, Lin Yi gasped.
“Is that for real? If these projects succeed, the profits will be astronomical.”
Lin Yi couldn’t help but admire Shen Shuyi.
“But they can’t see that, and they even claim my research is flawed. I never realized they could be this stupid.”
Shen Shuyi’s elegance seemed to be embedded in her bones.
Even when insulting others, it made people think the other side was clearly at fault.
If she were younger, she’d probably be a force to be reckoned with.
Lin Yi could understand Shen Shuyi’s frustration. Dealing with a bunch of fools every day, especially when they’re constantly plotting behind her back, must be maddening.
Shen Shuyi was probably in a state of constant confusion.
But thinking about it, in Shen Shuyi’s eyes, not just those in the meeting room, even Lin Yi himself might be just another ordinary person.
“Alright, I’m going to the meeting now. If there’s anything, we’ll talk when I get back.”
Lin Yi nodded thoughtfully, not saying anything more.
“Go ahead, Aunt Shen.”
Since the meeting was important, Shen Shuyi didn’t exchange too many words with Lin Yi before leaving the office.
Now Lin Yi was left all alone.
Lin Yi sat on the couch, crossed his legs, and played with his phone for a few seconds. Then he left the office and called for Wang Ning.
A few minutes later, Wang Ning rushed over, standing nervously at Shen Shuyi’s door and speaking softly.
“President Lin, did you need something?”
Lin Yi nodded. “Yeah, I do. Let’s talk inside.”
“I think it’s better not to. President Shen has strict rules. No one except her secretary can enter her office without permission.”
“What are you worried about? She’s my future mother-in-law. I’ll back you up.” Lin Yi said.
“If she gives you trouble, I’ll bring you to Lingyun Group. Don’t worry.”
“Are you sure it’ll be fine?” Wang Ning asked hesitantly.
“Of course. Come on in.”
At Lin Yi’s insistence, Wang Ning cautiously stepped inside.
“So, what can I do for you, President Lin?”
“Who’s attending the meeting in the conference room?”
“All the senior executives of the group.”
“Can you put together a list for me?”
“A list?”
“Yes, just with basic information—names and preferably photos.”
“As the HR manager, pulling up that information isn’t a problem,” Wang Ning said, looking troubled.
“But doing this isn’t exactly within the rules. If something happens, I’ll have to take responsibility.”
“Didn’t I just say? If something happens, I’ll take full responsibility.” Lin Yi said.
“If they dare to fire you from Huarun Group, I’ll bring you to Lingyun Group. At the very least, I’ll double your salary. And think about it—if we can take down those people, you’ll be a founding hero. Do I need to say more?”
