Demon Sword Maiden

Volume 12 - Yomi-no-kuni: Chapter 224 - The Dark Land of Yomi

Volume 12 - Yomi-no-kuni: Chapter 224 - The Dark Land of Yomi

In this dark age, women in Yomi were the most unfortunate victims of all, as if trapped in an unending nightmare.

At that moment, from afar, several female adepts, either companions or those forced to travel together, watched the scene unfold before them. They had once come to Yomi carrying dreams of advancement, never imagining it to be a living hell. For living women, it was even more treacherous than death itself.

And yet today, these female adepts, who had long lost hope in the world and in themselves, witnessed something unbelievable. A young woman, whose beauty could make even other women jealous, stood alone. Some had once scorned her, believing she relied solely on her looks to win over powerful figures. But now, this very woman, also from the mortal realm, stood at the pinnacle of Yomi, facing off against three of the Thunder Gods by herself.

No matter what these female adepts had suffered, no matter what burdens they bore or how bitter their hearts had become, in that moment, they felt true pride. A deep reverence welled within them. For the first time, they saw that even females could one day stand above the rulers of Yomi.

How they longed for such a day themselves.

Though they understood how impossible it seemed, it still offered them a sliver of hope—hope that even in despair, their training might not be in vain.

Three of the Thunder Gods fought against Lily, yet they could not defeat her. The countless demons of Yomi, who treated women as inferior beings and subjects of cruelty, were now thoroughly humiliated by Lily’s sublime swordsmanship.

Who said women were inferior to the brutal, tyrannical demons of Yomi? Now, who among the demons or gods of Yomi dared to claim they could defeat Lily one-on-one? Not a single one.

Yet after the shock faded, those ancient, cunning, and ruthless abyssal demon gods, beings even more dangerous than the monsters of Yomi, finally made their move from deep within the Abyss.

They hadn’t acted until now because they never considered Lily a threat. The only one they truly feared was the Boundless Imperial Princess.

But seeing Lily slaughter so decisively, shaking Yomi to its core, they realized that if this continued, the morale of their disposable underlings would completely collapse.

“Kagami Lily! So, you hid this deeply? As the wife of the Imperial Princess, you actually possess power second only to hers! I truly underestimated you. Of all the calculations I made, I never expected you to be this capable.”

Although he was not the strongest among the Abyssal Demon Gods, Kunhiza was the most insidious and treacherous of them.

Kunhiza’s serpent-like hair danced wildly as he stood thousands of meters away from the battlefield where Lily faced the three Thunder Gods. Suddenly, the hair extended and transformed into a hundred giant serpents, each one more terrifying than the heads of the Orochi.

The serpents spewed waves of vile venom toward Lily.

“Not a chance!” Queen Kaguya leapt forward and swung her golden jade branch, forming layers of radiant shields that blocked the toxic streams. “Three-on-one already wasn’t enough? And now you resort to such despicable sneak attacks? How shameless can you be?”

“Hmph, Kaguya-hime? You think you can stop me?” Kunhiza knew he couldn’t defeat Queen Kaguya with poison spells alone. But that was only a small trick. The Abyssal Demon Gods were not only physically powerful, but also masters of brutal warfare.

In his hands appeared a long dual-headed weapon, with both ends formed by fierce beast carvings twisted into chilling blades. This was his ancient weapon: Joton! Though not as refined or magical as a divine artifact, this brutal and poisonous relic from ancient times was just as deadly. In terms of raw savagery, it could even surpass many divine tools.

Of course, divine artifacts varied greatly in tier. The ancient weapon wielded by the Demon God Kunhiza was comparable to those used by Wakarai and his ilk, and clearly superior to the weapon of Lord Shikikai.

Kunhiza swung Joton toward Queen Kaguya. Dark winds surged across the skies, the aura eerie and unfathomable. For a moment, Queen Kaguya couldn’t discern the trajectory of his attack.

“I didn’t expect Kunhiza, ranked among the top three of the Boundless Abyss, to strike with such terrifying power!” The queen felt a pang of apprehension in her heart.

A streak of violet blade light flashed.

Chiya lunged out from the queen’s side and charged at Kunhiza. In close combat, it was impossible to let the queen face such a formidable abyssal demon alone.

A violent impact resounded as Joton, brimming with eerie, overwhelming power, clashed with Chiya’s blade.

“Agh!” A force as vast and unstoppable as the reversed flow of the Styx struck Chiya head-on. Even with the combined blessings of Queen Kaguya and Ayaka’s dance, she was far from a match for Kunhiza. With a cry of anguish, she was flung through the air, her divine energy significantly drained.

Chiya had only barely reached the level of a Supreme God and was still notably weaker than even the likes of Umashi. And Kunhiza? In a one-on-one duel, he was stronger than both Wakarai and Kurorai!

The Boundless Abyss had birthed many ancient, powerful demon gods, beings not only terrifying in strength but also masters of bizarre and deadly combat arts. Their legends often predated even those of the divine gods.

Chiya could not possibly withstand Kunhiza in a direct confrontation.

“Hahaha! No matter how powerful Kagami Lily may be, what can one woman do alone? Even if she holds her own against the three Thunder Gods, we have twenty Supreme Gods here! In the end, Kagami Lily will still fall, reduced to a slave of Kuroyodai-Okutsukokami!”

Umashi, seeing that the abyssal demon gods had finally taken action, was instantly emboldened. Although he had been colluding with them all along, there was mutual distrust between the forces of the Yomi and the Abyss. Had the abyss not intervened, it was uncertain whether they could truly defeat Lily and her allies, which had dampened Umashi’s morale.

But now, his fighting spirit surged once more.

Seizing the moment, Umashi charged toward Queen Kaguya. In close combat, Kaguya-hime was no match for him. If she fell, the combined strength of the six female Supreme Gods would take a serious hit.

Suddenly, twelve waves of spectral energy surged forth, six blue and six red. It was none other than Rakshasa-Onna and Asura-Onna! The two sisters assaulted Umashi head-on. He countered by unleashing massive palms, but the sisters deftly dodged each strike. Empowered by the queen’s blessings, they could stand toe-to-toe with Umashi, and their seamless coordination made them even more formidable.

Realizing he was outmatched, Umashi began to retreat while continuing the fight.

At that moment, two of Umashi’s Supreme God allies, Masen Sonshu and Gokakuzo Shushi, arrived with other Yomi Supreme Gods. The three joined the fray against the sisters.

Although the Yomi side boasted seven or eight Supreme Gods, neither the Lord of Oblivion nor the Sanzu Demon Queen had yet to engage. Aside from Wakarai’s trio and Umashi’s faction, the rest were largely Throned or Big Dipper Stage demons, each gambling their lives for a shot at glory—whether by capturing an exhausted celestial maiden or sneaking into Herikaku City to seize its treasures. For them, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Rakshasa-Onna and Asura-Onna struggled but managed to hold their own against the three Supreme God level enemies. However, Chiya was in no shape to face Kunhiza alone.

Seeing Kunhiza pursue the wounded Chiya, Queen Kaguya quickly launched a barrage of divine spells from a distance, hoping to stop him. Yet Kunhiza was simply too powerful. With a swing of Joton, the grotesque head at one end—half-fish, half-beast—opened its bladed maw and swallowed most of the spells, absorbing them into Kunhiza’s own power.

“What!?” the queen gasped.

“Damn it!” Chiya, still airborne, felt as though her body was falling apart from that single strike. The power gap was just too vast! She struggled to lift her blade in defense as Kunhiza’s massive form loomed over her, Joton raised high to crush her like a mountain.

Clenching her teeth, Chiya braced herself for a desperate counter.

Suddenly, a shadow streaked past her.

Shimizu appeared, bursting with dark energy. She unsheathed her weapon, Murasame-Anko. A blade light darker than the deepest abyss, one that seemed to drain the world of all color, slashed toward Kunhiza.

A thunderous impact rang out as Joton clashed with Murasame-Anko.

Shimizu was sent flying from the collision, but Kunhiza also suffered minor injuries as the residual force tore across his body.

However, Dark Lunar Force, though overwhelming, held no specific advantage over the forces of the Yomi. Though it injured Kunhiza, his divine power quickly mended the damage.

If Lily’s stand against the three Thunder Gods had shaken the morale of the Yomi army, then seeing Shimizu, long considered the legendary Imperial Princess of the Abyss, knocked back in a single strike by Kunhiza came as a massive shock to them.

“What is happening?”

“Has the Boundless Imperial Princess grown weak?”

A few high-level demons nearby could hardly believe what they had just witnessed. The Imperial Princess, once a figure of legend who had dominated the Boundless Abyss alone, had seemingly lost her edge.

In truth, Shimuzu was no weakling. Wielding the power of Dark Lunar Force, she was fully capable of fighting Wakarai on equal terms. But Kunhiza’s brute strength, honed over millennia, placed him among the top three within the Boundless Abyss. Shimizu had no choice but to take his blow head-on to save Chiya, and so she was forced into a disadvantage.

“Heh… heh heh! Hahahahaha!” Kunhiza’s laughter rang out. “As expected, just as we predicted! The so-called Boundless Imperial Princess, if not an imposter, must be gravely wounded!”

“An imposter?” Only the Supreme Gods knew this secret. Now that it had reached the ears of the Yomi horde, shock rippled through their ranks.

Lily, still fiercely dueling the three Thunder Gods, felt her heart sink. “So the abyssal demon gods have truly turned on us… They broke the pact and struck Herikaku City by surprise. They knew all along!”

From the darkest, most remote depths of the abyss came a chilling, rumbling laughter. The entire Boundless Abyss trembled.

“All forces of the Yomi and the Boundless Abyss! Today marks the fall of these haughty, self-proclaimed Celestial Maidens, and the demise of the most beautiful woman across all three realms! Attack with everything you have. The Boundless Imperial Princess no longer exists. No one can stop us now!”

A colossal demonic figure, tens of thousands of meters tall, stepped forward from the deepest chasm of the abyss. With every step, he crossed a hundred miles. Behind him followed nine terrifying Supreme Gods, and a swarm of abyssal demons so vast it seemed as countless as grains of sand.
