Chapter 2032: Negotiating With The Beastpeople
"They said they can’t let you take away their sacred treasure. It’s the foundation of their strength, so letting you take it away is impossible."
Grey snorted when he heard this. If not for the situation in their world, he might have had the thought of giving these people back their sacred treasure. Sadly, the Human World was facing possible annihilation, they needed all the strength they could muster. He did not mind offending these beastpeople as long as he could get something to improve the strength of Humans, giving them a better chance at fighting the Gnomes.
"You can’t stop me if I really want to leave. And if you continue to force my hands, I’ll no longer be able to hold myself back and start killing. I want to see if your sacred treasure is worth more than the lives of every single one of your clansmen." Grey said coldly.
Most Humans would not have such reservations and would have already gone on a killing spree. From the moment Grey realized Void could understand these beastpeople, he felt a little more sympathetic towards them. If there was no way to communicate their thoughts to each other, he might not have shown this much restraint. However, things were different now that he could understand them... well with Void’s aid.
The gray-haired beastman’s expression was cold when he heard this. He recalled the situation when the other Sovereigns tried to fight against Grey. The outcome of that fight was catastrophic for them. Had Grey not held back, the clan might have lost some of their top experts already, which would be detrimental to them in the long run. They were not the only clan of beastpeople in this area, and they had multiple enemies they repeatedly battled, especially for resources. If Grey were to go on a killing spree, even if they manage to kill Grey in the end, their losses outweighed recovering the sacred treasure. It might even be said that, after the fight, they might not be able to protect it again.
Grey also understood this, hence the reason he asked this question. The beastpeople had more to lose compared to him, who came here alone with Void. And given his space element, he was a hundred percent confident he could escape even if he could not win. The Peak Sovereigns among this group of beastpeople could survive against him, but those in the Eighth stage and below would not even know how they died if he targeted them.
The white-clothed beastman walked over to the gray-haired beastman, "Are we going to take this from him?"
The white-clothed beastman has never been this humiliated since he got to his current cultivation stage, so he found it difficult to accept such blatant disrespect.
The gray-haired beastman took a glance at the white-clothed beastman and asked, "Do you have a way to stop his strange movement technique?"
When asked this question, the white-clothed beastman wanted to reply, but when he recalled how even when all four of them were attacking, Grey still managed to use his space element to evade most of their dangerous attacks, his expression turned sour. He could not stop him from using it!
This was their biggest problem. Although Grey was powerful, they could deal with him. But his movement technique made it difficult for them to keep him in one place. In fact, they believed the reason Grey stopped running was not that he was unable to get away, rather, it was because he wanted to speak with them.
With a sour expression, the white-clothed beastman did not continue speaking, knowing there was nothing he could say. Since he had no way to stop the movement technique, then it was best he kept quiet.
"Child, what do you have to offer for it?" The gray-haired beastman asked, his figure visibly depressed. He had given in to Grey’s offer, now he wanted to see if it was worth taking or not.
While the beastpeople were speaking, Void was translating everything to Grey, so he heard the conversation between the gray-haired and white-clothed beastmen. Hearing this question, he heaved a sigh of relief, at least he would not be delayed. As long as he came to an agreement with the beastpeople, he was confident he could return before the time he was given was up. It was not that he was afraid of returning late, he just did not want any clashes with the group, after all, he was not the one leading the expedition.
Grey browsed through the items he had in his spatial storage, and after a while, he brought out a fruit. This fruit was no regular fruit, it was one that contained a shocking amount of lightning essence. Of course, it paled in comparison to the lightning crystal he got from the beastpeople. With the right care, these beastpeople would be able to actually grow an entire tree from this single fruit, having their own unlimited supply of lightning essence fruits.
The gray-haired beastman looked at the fruit with interest, listening to Void’s explanation. After hearing what Void had to say, he quickly shook his head.
"This thing is of no value to us. How many years do you think it would take before it grows to maturity? Besides, we have things like these within our territory, so what’s the point of taking something like this?"
"Hmmm, I have nothing else more valuable." Grey replied honestly. The true treasures he had ever found were all used up, and these were just the miscellaneous. Given their current cultivation stage, a lightning essence fruit like this can only help them restore themselves if they ever entered a prolonged battle.
The gray-haired beastman paused for a second before saying, "How about you help us with something, and we let you keep the sacred treasure?"
"What could that be?"
"You’re powerful, and I believe if given the right opportunity, you can kill someone as strong as I am, correct?"
"More or less."
"Then it’s settled, help us kill someone, and you can take the sacred treasure."
