Chapter 43: Coming to Visit
When Jing Ni came back from school and saw me, she jumped into my arms and bounced around happily, “Nanxing, Nanxing, Nanxing, Nanxing!” She was so happy that she didn’t even ask me about my illness and why didn’t I have any chickenpox scar. She is really as pure as a child.
However, when Jing Tian said he was going to take us back to the Jing Family’s old home to have a meal, Jing Ni frowned worriedly. Looks like the Jing Family treated Jing Ni like how the Nan Family treated me. However, Jing Ni could be said to have it worse, after all I was not the Nan Family’s biological daughter but she was the young miss of the Jing Family.
But it didn’t matter. I took it as my responsibility to look after Jing Ni in this life. If the people from the Jing Family bullied her, I would just kidnap her out from it. I would not have Jing Ni walk the same path as she did in her past life!
I pulled on her. “Didn’t you say you’ve been meaning to show me the orchids you bred in the family garden? We finally have the chance this time.” Jing Ni only then smiled at me.
Jing Ni met my little uncle when she got into the car. She whispered to me. “Nanxing, who is it?”
I caught the unspeakable injured expression on my little uncle’s face. I couldn’t help myself and giggled. Tong Le was always the centre of attention wherever he went. But his charm failed on Jing Ni. In Jing Ni’s eyes, she only cared about me. She could completely ignore my little uncle irregardless of how handsome he was.
“Ni Ni, this is my little uncle, Tong Le! Little uncle, this is my best friend, Jing Ni! You should treat her as well as you treat me!” I told my little uncle.
My little uncle replied sarcastically, “Sister Xing, why don’t you take over the entire Dragon Gate from me? And have me listen to your orders from now on?”
I laughed good-naturedly at him.
Jing Tian was inoculated to our banter. He was working on his tablet ever since he got into the car. My little uncle though was quite relaxed. He stared at the scenery out the car window.
The Jing Family’s old home was not a literal house. It was a very large neighbourhood. Every nucleus family of the Jing Family had their own individual home in the neighbourhood. This went to show the influence and power of the Jing Family. The Jing Family was not only powerful, they were rich and had a big and prosperous family.
For big empires, money was important but it was not more important than trusted family members because with family came more money. It was a well-known fact that Old Master Jing was blessed with a big family.
Old Master Jing was very happy with Jing Tian’s sudden return. He followed Jing Tian around. He had the housekeepers prepare the dishes Jing Tian loved. Just that list alone was long enough to confuse the housekeeper. The servants around the house were all mobilized. An atmosphere of joy filled up the main house.
Old Master Jing also showed great respect to Tong Le. In less than half an hour, I had heard Old Master Jing ask Tong Le at least 4 times if he had a girlfriend. Old Master Jing was clearly trying to match-make. Seeing how tired my little uncle was at trying to evade Old Master Jing, I smiled internally.
Jing Ni was rather reserved before her grandfather. Fortunately, I was here. Old Master Jing treated me very well. I felt that Old Master Jing would treat every one of Jing Tian’s guest with such respect and attention. Even if Jing Tian had brought back a stray dog, it would be given a seat at the dining table.
The members of the Jing Family heard the news and responded accordingly.
Jing Ning was the first to arrive. When Jing Ning saw me, he was glad. He reached out to place his arm proprietorially on my shoulder. “Nanxing, you’re here too? I heard from Nanyang that you were sick with chickenpox.”
I rolled my eyes internally. Only then Jing Ni widened her eyes and gasped at me. “Nanxing, right, your face, how did you…”
I quickly pulled down her paws and said kindly, “Ni Ni, I took your advice and didn’t scratch my skin at all. That’s why I’ve come out from the illness completely scar free.”
Jing Ni studied my face seriously and she nodded. “Nanxing, you are really lucky. I never knew anyone who could survive the chickenpox without scratching their face and leaving behind any scar.”
I sweated internally.
Jing Ning reached his hand over to grab my chin. “Really, let me see.”
I slapped his hand away and warned in a cold voice, “Young Master Ning, please watch your actions.”
Jing Ning was startled by my reaction. “Nanxing?”
I turned my head away from him and asked Jing Ni, “Ni Ni, didn’t you want to show me your orchids?”
Jing Ni looked at me and then at Jing Ning. In the end, she nodded wordlessly.
Jing Ni’s family villa was quite a distance from the main house. We decided to cycle there. The journey was very relaxing.
