Chapter 236: Understanding
Jing Tian’s anger melted completely when he heard my voice. He quickly poured me a glass of water. “Is your throat still uncomfortable? Why is your voice so hoarse?”
I drank the water and said hurriedly, “It’s already much better. I’ll be fine.”
Jing Tian instructed Gao Da to call the doctor to my house and then he dragged me home. “Just stay at home and recuperate. Don’t do anything else for the next few days.”
I nodded obediently.
Jing Tian sat by my bed and stroked my head. “Nanxing, don’t give up on me. No matter how difficult it is, please don’t give up on me. Okay?” He pleaded in a gentle voice.
I held his hand. The fragility in his eyes made my heart ache.
I found the courage that I lost. I nodded seriously. “Jing Tian, I will never give up! No matter who objects, no one is going to shake my conviction!”
“No matter what happens, never think that you are my burden. I want you to stand with me side by side. We will brave the challenges together. If we are to die together, I’d still be happy. If that is the case, there is nothing for us to be afraid of anymore, right?” Jing Tian caressed my face.
My heart shook from shock. People would only gain the courage to not hold back after there was nothing to lose. In my previous life, I had the courage to accept Jing Tian’s love because I had nothing to lose. But in this life, I was very cautious because I had so much more to lose and gain.
But Jing Tian was right. Even in the worst-case scenario, we would still have each other so what was I so afraid of? I should love without holding back.
…
My fever took about a week to recover. Lin Ran warned me to stay in bed so the illness would not take root. Jing Tian moved to my bedside to sleep with me. He guarded me every night, worried that my fever would return.
This made Tong Le, whom I had a video chat with daily extremely dissatisfied. He flew into a rage and wanted to crawl through the screen to grab Jing Tian.
In the end, it was Jing Tian who solved that problem. I would lose my emotions whenever I tried to reason with my little uncle. He was a person who couldn’t be communicated with using human language. I did not know how Jing Tian managed to placate him but I was very impressed.
When I was finally allowed to get out of bed and walk around, Mai Qi came to visit me.
I stood on the 2nd-floor balcony and saw the princess order his maids to carry the buttload of items she had carried over with her. She had not only brought many snacks for me, but she had also brought along her everyday necessities. From the looks of it, the only thing she did not carry was the bed from the dorm.
“What is this? Are you moving? You’re not staying at the dorm anymore?” I saw through her scheme easily.
She stood there, smiling ingratiatingly at me. “Nanxing, Professor Jing said that you were quite ill. You need to rest well and don’t worry too much. You need to maintain a happy mood so this good friend is duty-bound to accompany you!” The smile on her face was pure and beautiful.
I sighed. I tilted my head to look into the pantry. “Did you tell her all that?”
Jing Tian walked out of the pantry in casual clothes. He sipped the coffee and said, “I never said those things.”
Mai Qi was not expecting Prof Jing to show up at my house so brazenly in broad daylight. Jing Tian was at ease and he was in casual wear.
Mai Qi was frozen.
After Jing Tian walked over, Mai Qi pointed at him. “He, he, he…”
He what he? I waved at her, telling her to follow me upstairs.
Mai Qi followed me like she was sleep-walking. Her eyes were fixed at the spot Professor Jing occupied before he wandered away.
