"Yeah... I believe Kira actually likes Gewen too, judging from the way she is acting around Gewen when she is drunk like this," Mars said.
"You think so?"
"Yes, I do think so." Mars remembered the first time Emmelyn got drunk and accidentally let out what was in her heart to him. The king quickly added, "I mean wine only makes people honest, not turns people into someone they're not,"
When Emmelyn was drunk, Mars found out that she actually liked him. The reason why she always showed hostility toward him was that she was conflicted and feeling guilty about falling in love with the enemy. She was worried her deceased family would blame her.
Funny thing was, Emmelyn apparently remembered the same thing. She took his hand and squeezed it lovingly. She agreed with her husband that, perhaps, Kira actually liked Gewen. Who knows when it started though.
Now Kira seemed to be over Edgar and when wine presented the opportunity for her to be honest with her feelings, she unconsciously showed this side of her to Gewen.
"I think Gewen should take her home," Emmelyn said to Mars. "I am sure Kira will be mad if she knew she was embarrassing herself in the feast."
"Okay... You can tell Gewen to take her home. Kira needs rest." Mars nodded in agreement.
Emmelyn let go of her hand from Mars and walked toward Gewen and Kira in the corner of the room. She bent down a little and whispered to Gewen's ear. "Lord Gewen, I think Kira is drunk. Do you mind taking her to her chamber?"
Gewen turned to Emmelyn, looking disappointed. Deep inside he didn't want to take Kira to her chamber this soon. He still wanted to have her on his lap. He liked having her body being so close to him like this. He could inhale her scent and felt her breathing... and... ah..
Didn't the queen understand his feelings? Gewen wanted to cry and beg Emmelyn to let him have this moment with Kira longer, or he would pretend to become deaf suddenly and didn't hear the order.
Finally, Gewen nodded weakly. He knew he must not disobey the queen. Even though Emmelyn was younger than him and she was the wife of his best friend, she was still the king's wife and the queen of his kingdom.
There were moments like this, where Gewen had to know his place. He was the monarch's subject, no matter what was their relationship in private. In public, he must revere and obey the king and queen.
"I will gladly take Miss Kira to her chamber, Your Majesty," Gewen said haltingly. He turned to Kira and cleared his throat. "Miss Kira. Please allow me to take you to your chamber so you can rest."
Kira pursed her lips. "I don't want to walk."
Gewen turned to Emmelyn and mouthed, 'She doesn't want to walk.'
Emmelyn massaged her temple and then showed a displeased expression that made Gewen immediately rise from his seat with Kira still latched on him. He quickly held her with his strong arms.
"I will take Miss Kira right away to her chamber," The former womanizer said to Emmelyn. He bowed down slightly and walked with Kira out of the banquet hall.
"Thank you, Lord Gewen," Emmelyn said. She was finally smiling.
"Where is my son going. Do you know, Your Majesty?" Lady Athibaud came to ask Emmelyn. Gewen had disappeared behind the door so quickly that his mother didn't have time to talk to him.
"Uhm... Gewen is taking Miss Kira Grim to her chamber," Emmelyn explained. "She is not feeling well."
Everyone could tell that Kira was drunk, but they pretended that she was really unwell, because the queen said so. Besides, they knew Emmelyn was close with Kira and considered her a good friend.
"Oh... I am glad my son is taking care of Miss Kira," Lady Athibaud smiled sweetly. "I raised him to be a gentleman."
Emmelyn coughed and smiled too. "Yes, you did."
After Gewen and Kira were gone from the banquet hall, they continued the feast with more chat, good food, and wine.
Emmelyn had to call it a night earlier than the others because she wanted to accompany Harlow to sleep. So, she excused herself and took her daughter to her chamber. Mars was left to entertain their guests.
After midnight, when the feast finally ended and the last guest left, Mars went to his chamber to meet his wife. Emmelyn was reading something in bed, with the lighting provided by several candles.
"What are you reading, honey?" Mars climbed the bed and sat beside his wife.
"Nothing special, just a book I got from the shelf," Emmelyn replied. She put down the book on the table beside her. "I was waiting for you, so I decided to read something to kill time."
"Ahh.. now that I'm here, what do you want to do?" Mars asked Emmelyn with a grin on his face. He was happy to see Emmelyn put down the book and now gave him her undivided attention.
"Has everyone left?" Emmelyn asked.
"Yeah, my mother was the last one to go. I have the king's guards take her home."
"Ahh.. I see." Emmelyn smiled and touched her husband's cheeks. "It's good to see everyone. I miss them so much."
"And they missed you too," Mars replied. He closed his eyes and touched her hands on his cheeks. Then, he opened his eyes, and looked at her straight. "Should we... make siblings for Harlow?"
Emmelyn coughed and pushed his chest playfully. "You pervert."
Mars chuckled. "Guilty as charged. But I'm only a pervert when you are around, and I am only a pervert to you."
He pulled her closer and landed a deep kiss on her lips. Soon, he was already pressing on her body and kissing her all over. Emmelyn bit her lip as her small hands slowly unbuttoned her husband's shirt.
She let out a soft moan when Mars slipped his hand through the opening of her dress and started kneading her breast.
