Gewen smirked and continued his words. "Have you heard of this saying 'don't shit in your own backyard'? Of course, they won't do anything here. This town will become a ghost town in no time."
"But that doesn't mean you are safe forever. Imagine what happens if someday they run out of food sources or they cannot go hunting to another place? They WILL look for food in their own backyard. They are EVIL."
One woman even fainted when she imagined a hydra ate humans. The other women shrieked in panic. Gosh.. they never thought of this before.
How could they be so blind???
This handsome man was right!
Just because the monsters didn't or had not bothered them, it didn't mean they could be complacent. What if their turns came next?
Who would save them from being eaten by the hydra in the future? There were no knights in this town, only merchants, farmers, and some scholars.
They might be able to report it to the capital and the government of Wintermere would send troops to help them. But by the time they came, imagine how many people would have been eaten?
This was scary! So, so scary!
Gewen was satisfied when he saw the impact of his words on the ladies. They were trembling with fear.
Ahh.. he should be a politician, he thought. He was so good with words.
"I am here to help," he continued his words. "As a knight, it is my duty to protect the weak and destroy evil. I travel to different places to find people that need my help. I slay monsters, fight pirates and other criminals, and free those who are held captive unjustly."
The girls all felt their knees turn weak. Oh.. this handsome man was so valiant and manly...
They all wanted to throw themselves at him. Where was he staying tonight? Did he need his bed warmed so he could wake up fresh to slay monsters?
They were all wondering the same thing.
"Oh.. thank you so much for your help," A woman gushed. Her face looked in awe. She came to Gewen and clung to him, looking frightened. "Please, please kill the monsters for us. We are so scared."
Gewen rubbed her hair gently and nodded solemnly. "That's what I'm here for. Now, in order for me to do my job properly, to kill the monsters and make sure they will never harm you, I need to get more information."
"Yes, yes.. tell us what do you need to know?" The woman replied excitedly. "Even if we don't know the answer, we will find out for you."
Gewen smirked and nodded happily. "That's good. Now, I just need to know if the witch, uhm, I mean, Mrs. Morelli is home or is she away again."
One woman raised her hand and said, "She is home. My father received an order from her to bring groceries tomorrow."
Alma explained, "I told you she always comes down to town on Saturday. She will pick up groceries and whatnot with her servant. If she doesn't come to town, it means she is away."
"Ah, got it." Gewen nodded in understanding.
This was good, he thought. As long as they could make sure Thessalis left her home to pick up her groceries in town, some of them could sneak into the mansion and got Ellena's heart.
Once they could secure it, they could deal with the witch face-on. He was sure that Mars wouldn't let the witch live to see another day. So, it would be a life or death battle, which he believed would be won easily by Mars and Elmer.
"What time does she usually come to town?" Gewen asked again. He needed to make sure.
"Around ten in the morning," Alma replied.
"Uff.. so early," Gewen complained. He downed his wine and decided that he had had enough information. It would be better if he went back now and shared his findings with the team. They didn't have much time since tomorrow was Saturday.
They must prepare for tomorrow early in the morning. Otherwise, they might have to wait another week to get this opportunity.
"Ladies, thank you so, so much for your valuable help. I am so glad to have met you all," he got up and got ready to go. "Please don't tell anyone about my mission, so I can succeed. Once I have accomplished my mission, I will return here and show you my gratitude."
He took their hands one by one and kissed them, like a true knight leaving behind his lady before he went to war.
Nobody could say a word. The girls were in a daze and couldn't react in time. Gewen threw a gold coin to the tavern owner which the man caught with difficulty.
"The drinks are on me," Gewen said with a smile.
"Thank you, my lord!"
The owner could only nod, looking impressed by this handsome and rich young lord who had blessed his tavern with his presence today. Once Gewen was out of sight, the ladies were moved from their reverie. They all shrieked and gushed about the handsome man.
"He is so valiant!"
"Oh my god... I think I'm in love."
"Hey, you will get married next week, Anna. You must not love another man," her friend reminded.
"If he would take me, I would even leave my husband," the other said with a chuckle.
***
Gewen returned to the inn while whistling. His mind was especially happy because he just had a good time with so many girls after holding back for six weeks.
He didn't sleep with any of them, yet, but he already set his eyes on a couple of them. Hehe.. Once this mission was over, he would bag himself a nice reward.
Now, he just needed to tell the crown prince about his findings, so they could immediately make plans to infiltrate the haunted forest to go to the witch's home.
Ah, he also needed to prepare some assignment to give Bruinen when the wizard became his servant.
These thoughts put Gewen in a really good mood.
