Book 16: Chapter 16
“I have a good idea.”
“The majority of attendees will travel to Hangzhou before the event, right? That means a lot of people will gather, right? We can mark them one by one and then deal with all of them in one fell swoop before the wedding! If we steal their invitations, they won’t be able to attend. It’ll all fall apart if nobody can attend.”
“No, no.”
“The plan is too flawed. Putting aside whether or not they have arrived in Hangzhou, it’s possible that they can enter with just their identity alone. Plus, if the host insists on going forwards with it, lack of guests is not a reason to cancel it. Worst comes to worst, they’ll just delay it. Given how many invitations Wutong Jin Yuxuan has sent out, there’ll be five hundred – if not a thousand – people in attendance. How are you going to rob that many people?”
“They’ll gather, won’t they? Once they assemble, just throw you-know-what, and they’ll basically be out cold. All we have to then do is pick up invitation by invitation. As for the ones that are scattered, throw some more you-know-what to track them down and steal them!”
“…”
“When you say ‘you-know-what’, are you referring to Dark Robe Brotherhood’s ‘Nine Heavens Thundernet’ and ‘Crow Scatterer’?”
“Exactly. You’re really clever.”
“… Those are their treasures. What makes you think they’ll loan them to you?”
“If you don’t ask, the answer is always ‘no’.”“… You’re very optimistic, which I’m all for, but,” Bai Lian, looking at the person who had her suspended, continued, “why did you bring me along?”
Su Xiao stared at the sky instead of answering. “Uh… It’s been a while. I must fulfil my duty as the host.”
“And how does trapping your guest in a net and suspending them achieve that?! You’re a horrible host!”
Su Xiao pouted. “Landlords are scum to begin with…”
As Li Zizi’s guardian, Bai Lian was supposed to accompany him and Bu on their tour today. Bu had yet to win Bai Lian’s trust, and Bai Lian could not feel safe without Li Zizi in her sights. Unfortunately, Su Xiao’s interruption caused her to lose track of the duo before she was forced to go along with him. All she heard was an introduction before she was trapped and suspended.
“Hehe, it really has been a long time, so I wanted to invite you on a stroll.”
“I can’t believe I thought you just wanted to hang out.”
As she conversed, Bai Lian kept moulding energy, but it was extremely tough to rip the net as premium materials were used to make it, allowing it to be sturdy whilst maintaining pliability. Otherwise, she would have had escaped already. Su Xiao thought the net was only as sturdy as a toy.
Bai Lian was not aware they were at Dark Robe Brotherhood’s villa in the capital until Su Xiao mentioned seeking the help of Dark Robe Brotherhood’s leader Wang Du.
Wang Du had always maintained a very low profile, preferring to keep to himself instead of appearing before the public. Unless he had to leave, he spent his days here at Supreme Villa. Despite the brotherhood’s fame, he had very few jobs as their leader as they had entered a different phase from their early days. From the clan’s inception in the pugilistic world to them becoming a part of the imperial court, it all happened in no time at all. Since they were headquartered in Nanjing, making them the imperial court’s neighbour, they either had to submit or be erased. Gradually, their mark in the pugilistic world vanished as generations passed. They, instead, pursued roles in the imperial court. Accordingly, Wang and Xie Clans effectively removed themselves from the pugilistic world. Wang Du invested more time and effort into managing the clan than the brotherhood.
Bai Lian quickly got over her surprise regarding their whereabouts since she was accustomed to being around even higher ranked folks than Wang Du. What she never expected was for one of the servants to confiscate Su Xiao’s weapon, lead them to this spot and then ensnare them. Had it been another villa, she would have been vigilante the moment she arrived, but she never imagined she would be apprehended at Dark Robe Brotherhood’s villa considering Wang and Xie clans were basically one family with the imperial court. By extension, would she not be one of them? Thus, the more she thought about it, the angrier she grew.
“How are we going to get out?” grumbled Bai Lian.
“That’s simple, hehe.” Su Xiao grabbed a corner of the net. “Watch.”
The part Su Xiao grabbed turned red and exuded smoke. At the same time Bai Lian was trying to destroy the net, so was Su Xiao.
“Eunuch Lian, I remember you practice an yin internal discipline.”
Bai Lian smiled. “You’re a witty one.”
All entities had chemical properties. If Su Xiao heated something up and then Bai Lian iced it, then it would be destroyed.
Bai Lian placed her hand over the section Su Xiao heated up and applied her yin energy. Su Xiao waited for a while before switching with her. Following several cycles, Bai Lian used a knife hand whilst Su Xiao vigorously yanked at the glowing-red section. Their combined attack ripped a large opening in the net, leading to them successively dropping onto the ground.
After she fixed her hair and attire, Bai Lian grouched, “Your plan is unrealistic. Why would anyone give you time of the day if you suddenly show up at their door making demands?”
“I didn’t know they’d be so petty. So, are we going to head back now?”
“Head back?” Bai Lian snickered. “I have yet to hear the justification for hanging me up without a word.”
“Hahaha, you’re so cool, Eunuch Bai! Let’s go, then. They took my weapon, after all.”
“All right, let’s go kick their door down, retrieve your weapon and then demand justice. If they can’t provide a satisfactory explanation, hmph, you won’t have to worry about not getting what you need. We’ll steal their treasures as payback!”

An yin – “An” because “yin” is pronounced with a silent “y”.
