Chapter 3839: Trap?
"We don’t need to really buy any of the new options, now do we?" Celis commented, having noticed something. "Did you see? All three new abilities are utility-based. None of them has the capability to increase the rate at which we grow stronger. Perhaps we should use the Celestial Points to increase our cultivation speed instead? How much was the Universe Cultivation Upgrade?"
[It’s the level six,] Sister Orb quickly checked. [And it costs 5000 Celestial Points. You are nowhere near the necessary points.]
[There is also the Soul Connection Range, but that is 1100 Celestial Points. Now, you don’t have the points for this one, but you could save the Celestial Points for later.]
Roan shook his head in response. "For now, one Light Year is more than enough for us. If anything, it would be more reliable to buy the relay."
[But the relay has only three uses, and then it is done. Wherever you put it, it will stay. You are at a point in your journey where you are travelling from Universe to Universe. The relays work anywhere as long as you are in the same Universe. They will not disappear if you leave the Universe, but you won’t have access to them anymore either.]
Rean couldn’t help but ask. "Can’t we simply buy more relays?"
[If there was more to buy, sure. At the moment, however, there is only that set of three. You can’t spend another 400 Celestial Points and buy another three. Well, who knows? Perhaps the system will add more in the future. I can’t guarantee that, though.]
Roan understood. "Alright, so it was not as reliable as I thought."
"It’s quite sad how none of the skills can help us cultivate faster," Celis said, disappointed. "Don’t get me wrong. All three options are really, really good, but not for the things I wanted."
"It’s fine," Rean assured him. "At least we know we can increase the number of options if we find the remnants of other systems. We might even buy the Celestial Clue and ask the Celestial Soul System for clues regarding some other system."
"Maybe some other time," Roan was done with pursuing systems. "Let’s buy the Celestial Connection Relay Node."
Rean was taken aback. "You just said it wasn’t very reliable..."
"Yes," Roan confirmed. "However, it is still an extraordinary ability. It doesn’t matter if we have only three relays. We took quite a few risks this time around, where we were forced to face the danger for lack of better options. Even if the Relay Nodes become useless after leaving a Universe, I will still drop them if the situation calls for it."
For Roan, nothing was more important than surviving. He wasn’t afraid of death, obviously. But that didn’t mean he would confront it by choice. He could deal with the rest of the trouble later as long as survival was guaranteed.
Rean looked at the others to see if they had any better ideas. They all agreed with Roan, though. Surviving was still best. "Alright. Let’s go for it."
*Pin!*
[Soul Connection Relay Node - 400 Celestial Points]
[Confirm Purchace?]
"Yes!"
[Celestial Points: 884]
Suddenly, Rean and Roan saw three gray marks appearing on their palms. Looking at them, they could sense the Spatial Powers within, although it was only for a moment. A few seconds later, they looked more like some poorly made tattoos than anything else.
[Celestial Connection Relay Nodes: Three]
Roan ignored the marks for now. "That leaves us with 484 Celestial Points. We are still in the positive after everything. Now, let’s get out of this Universe. Sister Orb, open the connection to the Werdlem Network and find where in the nearest Great Void Shifter, broken or not." With the system back online, they were no longer afraid to access the network using another ID.
[On it!]
Yet, as soon as Sister Orb connected to the Werdlem Network... no, she didn’t.
[Eh? There is no Werdlem Network Signal here.]
"Hum?" The twins looked at each other, then at Kentucky. "Did you open a Spatial Gate to some area without the signal?"
"Maybe?" Kentucky shrugged. "You just asked me to open a Spatial Gate that would connect us as far as possible. That’s what I did. I couldn’t possibly know where we would come out."
"That’s true..." Rean and Roan nodded. "Anyway, we still have the Star Chart we got before coming here. Let’s take a look."
And so, the twins checked the Star Chart. Using the positions of the stars around them and Sister Orb’s help, they soon found their location. Finally, Rean and Kentucky left the Dimensional Realm, Kentucky opening a Spatial Gate in the next moment. They were quite far away from the Divine Realm, but the Divine Realm was still the closest location.
Just like that, two years of Spatial Gates opening went by in a flash, no stops for anything else. Some things seemed strange. Even as they got close to the Divine Realm, there was still no signal from the Werdlem Empire’s Network. In fact, even the signal of the Private Network of this Universe seemed turned off.
Another strange point was that they expected to find many mindless Umbras on the way. Yet, they were left disappointed. Mindless or not, there wasn’t a single one in sight during the various times they exited their Spatial Gates. Even more surprising, no Umbras came out of the Spatial Gates they opened either.
Rean and Kentucky didn’t open a Spatial Gate directly inside the Divine Realm. Instead, they connected to a point far away, just in case they would bump into some formation on the way back.
"This..." But then, they noticed something around them the moment they put their heads out of the gate. Not only one, but countless... "So many Spaceships..."
Then, a lot of their weapons immediately turned in their direction!
"Shit!" Before their Spatial Gate could close, Rean and Kentucky jumped back inside.
Finally, they exited the Spatial Gate, but not too far away. Far, far in the distance, the huge number of Spaceships could still be seen due to how many there were. Above all, there seemed to be explosions of Divine Energy happening everywhere.
Seeing that no one came after them, at least one thing was evident. That wasn’t a trap made for them. Otherwise, they shouldn’t have been able to escape so easily. "What is happening here?"
