My unbelievable life with CATS (Con and Thief system)

Chapter 68: At lawyer's office and planning for vacation

The next day, at the lawyer's office, Maya explained the purpose of her visit to Robert, who listened intently. Robert then looked at Dylan, Ellie, Lena, and Amy, who had accompanied Maya to his office. After that, he stared at Dylan, leaning his face forward and resting both elbows on the desk for support.

"So, let me just clarify... you got all four of them pregnant, and now you want to marry Maya so her inheritance can be disbursed?" Robert asked, raising one eyebrow and staring sharply at Dylan.

"Sir, you're saying that as if I'm some deadbeat guy who needs his fiancée's inheritance to live, that's not the case, sir," Dylan said.

"Hmm... is that not it," Robert replied, leaning back in his chair. "Ellie has already received her inheritance from her grandfather, Amy also got her trust fund from her grandfather once she turned 18, Lena is about to receive hers from her grandmother, and now you want to disburse Maya's by marrying her. And I know what you received from your grandfather... so from my perspective, you are a pathetic man who is scamming four rich girls and getting them pregnant to tie them down so you can live comfortably using their wealth," Robert added, smiling.

"Grr... that's clearly not it, sir. I apologize, but I can't explain the real reason," Dylan replied, annoyed, his face flushed and tense.

"Hahaha... relax, Dylan, I was just kidding. I know you're not like that because I know you from your grandfather's stories. For the 30 years I knew your grandfather, since you were born, he always talked about you and seemed proud when he did," Robert said, breaking the tension.

"Oh, is that right, sir," Dylan replied, starting to relax.

"Yes, but I never expected all five of you to gather here, plus all of them are carrying your babies. Honestly, I'm shocked you're following in your grandfather's footsteps," Robert replied casually.

"Ah... that's true," Dylan replied.

"No, sir, I got pregnant by my own choice," Ellie added.

"Me too, and Grandma agreed," Lena added.

"I already talked to my friends. The reason I want to marry Dylan is because I want to quickly disburse my grandfather's inheritance. The goal is to keep my stepfather from causing any more trouble, especially since it seems my brother has been manipulated by him, even though Mom is still in a coma at the hospital," Maya added.

"Ellie, Lena, Maya, and I trapped Dylan into getting us pregnant, so it's not Dylan's fault," Amy stated.

Ellie, Lena, and Maya turned to look at the expressionless Amy, who in turn looked back at her three friends.

"Better to be honest," Amy said with a blank face.

Robert paused for a moment. Then he opened the folder on the desk that Maya and Dylan had just given him. After that, he looked at all five of them.

"Alright, I'll help with the process. The documents you brought are complete, but when you have to appear at the courthouse later, the two of you must come, okay?" Robert replied.

"Okay, sir. After that, can Maya's inheritance be disbursed?" Dylan asked.

"Once you have the marriage certificate, indicating she has a family. Actually, it could be done with the pregnancy if the two of you showed the gynecologist's exam results and the ultrasound photos, but then there would be a lot of questions later, like who the father is and so on. It's safer for you to get married first and have an official marriage certificate from the state," Robert answered.

"Understood, sir. About how long will the process take?" Maya asked.

"It won't take long. I'll let you know," Robert replied.

"Okay, sir, I'll pay your consultation fee up front," Dylan replied.

"No need. The five of you are the cherished grandchildren of your grandfathers, who have been my clients for 30 years, and I know them like family, so don't worry about the consultation fee," Robert replied, smiling.

After that, they chatted for a bit. Robert reminisced about the past when he worked with their grandfathers. About an hour later, they excused themselves from Robert because they wanted to pick up Fiona and Iris from school. Robert walked the five of them to the door, then he patted Lena's shoulder.

"Once again, I'm sorry for the loss of your grandmother," Robert said, smiling and holding Lena's shoulder.

"Thank you, sir," Lena replied.

They said goodbye, then left Robert's office. He closed the door, and they went downstairs, exited the building, and walked to their car. Once inside the car, Dylan turned to look at Lena in the back.

"You're not working, are you?" Dylan asked.

"No, I still have bereavement leave until tomorrow, so I'll go back to work the day after tomorrow," Lena replied.

"Same here. Our supervisors understood we were grieving," Maya added, sitting next to Dylan.

"That's good then," Dylan replied, turning back to the front.

"Speaking of, the class farewell party is tonight, right? Connor and Sharon insisted we all come, they even showed up at Grandma's funeral yesterday," Ellie said.

"I don't really care. If we want to go, we'll go," Amy added.

"I don't want to go. I'm still in mourning," Lena replied.

"Yeah, we don't need their party. Let's not talk about the party anymore," Maya added.

"Aaron, Fiona, and Iris's last day of school is today. They start their vacation tomorrow. How about we take a short trip to relax and celebrate graduation at the same time?" Dylan suggested while driving.

"But what about my job? Should we only go for one day?" Lena asked.

"Just tell them you have a family matter for another week," Ellie answered.

"That's easy for you to say. What if I get fired for taking too much time off?" Lena replied.

"Hmm... even if you got fired, it wouldn't be a problem, would it?" Amy replied.

"True, besides, you keep getting bothered by that jerk who picks up the dentist's wife every day. You're the one who told us you were uncomfortable," Maya added.

"Come on, Lena, you and all of us need this break. Too much has happened this past month, we need to relax," Ellie urged.

"Ellie's right, I agree," Amy added.

"What do you say, Lena?" Maya asked.

"Aah... fine, later at home I'll try calling management and ask for more time off. If I get fired, then so be it, even though I actually quite liked the job if that one person wasn't there," Lena said.

"Is that guy still bothering you?" Dylan asked.

"Yes, he even got my number somehow. He sends all sorts of messages, mostly asking to meet to discuss my 'potential' for a job he wants to offer. I've blocked him now because the last time he asked why I hadn't come in, and I didn't feel like explaining that my grandmother had died," Lena answered.

"Hmm... okay. Is he always like that?" Dylan asked.

"According to the management staff, Dr. Lucas, and even Dr. Rosa, they say he likes to flirt with the clinic employees, especially the younger women," Lena answered.

"Hmm... alright," Dylan replied briefly.

Ellie, Maya, Amy, and Lena glanced at each other, then they all looked at Dylan.

"You're not planning anything crazy, are you?" Ellie asked.

"Of course not," Dylan answered. "Of course I have a plan, I want to find out who this Mitchell guy is who keeps harassing Lena and crossing the line," Dylan muttered to himself.
