SSS-Rank Engineer: Only I Can Create Legendary Weapons

Chapter 96: 96—Saving Dina

The temple of Gaia shook with flames and screams. On the various floors of the high ziggurat, Percy was hunting down every last one of the Whitemoon grunts with his golem bodies.

The previous army of golems were easy to kill. They were too slow and uncoordinated, and as long as you killed thirty of them in four minutes you had time to run to the stairs.

But the Percy golems were a terror.

Smoke licked along the columns. All around, a chorus of metal and flesh continued its slow arithmetic: one golem falls, two more take its place.

They were far more organised and strategic, each casting spells from a distance and fighting up close with copies of Cloudeater.

And there were so many of them.

Almost a hundred were being created every two minutes. With Percy at the center of the circle, serving as the interface between the generator circle and the leyline, he could draw on an immense amount of power.

On the ground floor hallway, in the wide entrance hall to the temple.

Multiple Percy golems coralled a battalion of Whitemoon soldiers like wolves circling deer.

"Drive of the world, swift and free, Rush the gale, surge through me."

The forward wind pushed the men back, and accelerated the speed of Percy's [Fireshot] spell. The room exploded with light, smoke and carnage.

Multiple Percy golems that were in the fray, fighting with katanas, were also swallowed by the fire but it didn't matter.

One of them, its torso blackened and half gone from flame, with only one hand left, stumbled forward and kicked a Whitemoon grunt in the spine. The grunt folded; another golem stepped in and made a clean, mechanical motion that ended him.

The burned golem sighed—a sound to similar to a human.

"I wished we could be down there fighting Lethel."

"We are," multiple Percy golems chorused around him mid fight.

"I know, I'm trying to make a joke."

"We know, we're being contrarian to ourselves."

All the golems laughed simultaneously, a haunting chorus that made the Whitemoon soldiers grimace.

One of them screamed as a nearby golem's blade sheared a shoulder. The golem barely paused, shaking off the blood and moving forward.

They were being slaughtered mercilessly, against opponents that could not die, feel pain or even fear.

It was the terror of facing a god-like entity.

A virus of some kind, hunting each and every one of them with a smile on its face. Even the Rank 3 Spiritmancers around them were having trouble.

Dina, one of those few Rank 3, fought one of the golems, hiding in the shadows as she chased and dismantled them.

Her face was twisted with disgust as she ripped a golem limb from limb, releasing a relieved sigh when only dust and pebbles fell from those joints and not blood.

One of the decapitated golem heads was just sitting next to the shadow she dwelled in. It had Percy's face and found her not long after the fight started despite the fact she was nestled in the shadows.

Her impenetrable Dark spell that allowed her to enter shadows was easily bypassed.

"I'm forcing the guy with your sons here," the head said eerily with a very Percy-like smile that made her shiver. "Once I secure the boys you can switch sides. All I need you to do is force the children to stop moving."

"They'll be swallowed by the temple's floor," Dina refuted; a numb fear grew in her heart, a fear that this was just a malicious spirit wearing Percy's face.

"I'm in total control of the temple, I'll deliver them safely to the center," Percy promised. "It's the safest place for them right now, especially with what Lethel is planning to do soon."

"What?" Dina asked, fearful of the Rank 4 powerhouse. He was the most dangerous person in the temple.

"I'll protect you, just save your kids and then we slaughter all the bastards that took them."

Dina nodded, the darkness growing tighter around her.

"Here they come," Percy announced.

The two boys were being dragged forward by a Whitemoon captain, a Rank 3 Water Spiritmancer, who also appeared to be a Rank 2 Arete user. The man jumped between the walls, striking golems with his bare fist.

Behind him were three tails made of water, two of which were wrapped around the boys, who were screaming.

Dina's body trembled as she saw the two boys for the first time in years.

Their black hair was buzzed short with many ugly patches left not properly cut, their blue eyes were full of tears, bodies so gaunt she wondered if the bastards had been feeding them.

For a moment all she saw was red; a violent scream escaped her chest, muffled in the shadow, and an army of black hands rose from every shadow cast in the massive room, all reaching for the Whitemoon captain.

"Dina!" the captain roared, but before he could threaten the children, he walked into Percy's gravity trap. His body immediately multiplied in weight and he went crashing down into the floor.

BANG!

The ground caved in under the force of gravity.

The spell took a while to set up and couldn't be moved. So Percy had guided him towards the trap with golems.

Now Dina's black hands collapsed on the man and ripped his watery tails apart.

The two boys fell to the ground, dazed, and not a moment later the stone turned mushy and they sank into the floor.

Just in time as the Whitemoon captain broke free of the gravity spell and slammed his tails all throughout the room.

"They're safe now," Percy reassured. "I'll tell them you saved them, but for now let's go all out, shall we?"

Her pale hands slid from the shadow and, with a quiet motion that felt like making an oath, picked up the severed Percy head. The cracked lips smiled that same awful Percy-smile.

"Tell me what you need. I'll follow all your orders," her voice answered coldly.
