Speaking of alchemy, no one is more adept at it than Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad.
He has several magical treasures for alchemy, which no one else could possibly match in skill.
However, with such a high level of expertise, Lord himself had to explore the art of alchemy—treating Sun Wukong, who occasionally dropped by, as an inspiration extraction device.
"Your mind is full of ideas, how did your brain come to be like this?"
The more Lord Lao Zi communicated with Sun Wukong, the greater his urge to crack open his head for a closer look.
Sun Wukong's thoughts were often different from others, which inspired Lord Lao Zi greatly.
And Sun Wukong was not without gains, relying on Lord Lao Zi's wisdom to perfect the elixirs he had not previously completed.
The first batch of elixirs was ready, and the room was filled with fragrant aromas.
Zhang Liang and the Taoists were busy storing the elixirs in gourds, while both Lord Lao Zi and Sun Wukong quieted down.
They saw Merit Qi, which ordinary Immortals could not see.
Merit Qi permeated the whole alchemy room, and although it was far less than rice, it was not to be underestimated.
"You monkey, you've done another great deed."
Lord Lao Zi became sentimental.
This was just a minor elixir, whose method of production was greatly simplified—any Taoist could do it, yet it garnered such an immense amount of Merit.
"Are you planning to disseminate it to the Four Great Continents?"
Lord Lao Zi asked Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong nodded. If not passed on to the various human nations, what use was there for him to make this elixir—since Demons had no need for it.
"Then don't involve me."
Lord Lao Zi shook his head and said, "The Heavenly Palace definitely won't agree, just say that you refined the elixir yourself."
Sun Wukong nodded.
He took the elixir back to Shuilian Cave, and soon, Ao Luan returned looking furious, accompanied by Emperor Donghua.
"Brother," she said to Sun Wukong. "Emperor Donghua has followed me around all day today. I have no idea what he's thinking. Could you help me ask him?"
Sun Wukong looked at Emperor Donghua and translated for Ao Luan.
After the conversation, Emperor Donghua left, but Ao Luan stayed behind.
"What's wrong?"
Sun Wukong found it strange: "Why are you glaring at me?"
Ao Luan stared at him intently.
After realizing that Wukong had no reaction, Ao Luan clicked her tongue and turned to leave.
"What's with her?"
Sun Wukong looked at the Ox Demons, Deer Demon: "Do you know?"
The two Demons shook their heads.
"Probably a stomachache."
The Green Bull said, "Great King, can I go out to lose weight today?"
Recently, the young Ox Demons had called him too fat, and he wanted to lose weight every day.
"Wait for the Rakshasa to come back, and then take the chariot out for a stroll."
Sun Wukong said.
The Green Bull quickly shook his head: "Then forget it."
He had his dignity, how could he pull a chariot just for an ordinary Demon?
Sun Wukong thought of a solution.
"Take this elixir to the South Heavenly Gate."
He tied the elixir around the Green Bull's neck and said, "Give it to Sharp-Hearing Ear, he'll naturally know what to do."
The Green Bull took the elixir to the heavens.
Sharp-Hearing Ear took the elixir, and with a twitch of his ear, he understood what Sun Wukong intended.
He flew through the South Heavenly Gate all the way to the Palace of the Polestar.
"To report to Your Majesty," Sharp-Hearing Ear knelt in the Treasure Hall and said, "The Monkey King from Huaguo Mountain has an elixir that can cure diseases and save people, hoping Your Majesty can dispatch someone to promote it."
The Jade Emperor had the elixir brought up, and was pleased at a glance.
This Mortal World elixir actually contained great Merit, and Sun Wukong offered it to him, indeed a good monkey.
The Jade Emperor was just about to agree.
"Your Majesty, you must not!"
Tota Li Heavenly King stepped forward and said.
The Jade Emperor's expression darkened.
"What is impossible about it?"
"This..."
Tota Li Heavenly King, gazing at the Elixir, found himself at a loss for words at that moment.
It was a mundane Elixir, showing no sign of Immortal Energy; it seemed there was indeed nothing particularly amiss.
"This official also thinks it should not be allowed."
Another Immortal stepped forward.
"This official seconds the opinion."
Several more Immortals followed suit.
The Jade Emperor furrowed his brow, understanding the situation at once.
These Immortals might not recognize the true value of the Elixir, but the common folk often pray when sick, and healing the ill is a main source of worship for Immortals.
This type of healing Elixir warrants more wariness from Immortals than even the staple rice.
"Sharp-Hearing Ear."
The Jade Emperor handed the Elixir to Sharp-Hearing Ear, saying, "Return this to the Monkey King."
For a mere Elixir, there was no need to disrupt the harmony amongst the Immortals.
Being as clever as he is, if Sun Wukong truly wishes to disseminate it, he would know how.
The Jade Emperor waved his hand, dismissing Sharp-Hearing Ear.
Upon leaving the South Heavenly Gate, amidst the murderous gaze of Thousand-mile Eye, Sharp-Hearing Ear arrived at Huaguo Mountain.
"Great King, the Jade Emperor instructed me to return this Elixir to you."
Sharp-Hearing Ear returned the Elixir to Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong took the Elixir: "Did he say anything else?"
"No."
Sharp-Hearing Ear shook his head.
Sun Wukong thought for a moment; the Jade Emperor's refusal to outright reject it, yet returning the Elixir to him— the subtext was for him to take charge of this matter.
Without expressing it openly, the Jade Emperor left the approach to Sun Wukong, who knew what needed to be done.
"Rakshasa, go summon Ao Luan for me."
Sun Wukong ordered Rakshasa to fetch Ao Luan, and took the chance to express his thanks to Sharp-Hearing Ear.
Sharp-Hearing Ear bid farewell and left.
"What's with the flowers?"
Sun Wukong observed Sharp-Hearing Ear carrying a bunch of fresh flowers as he departed.
Before long, Ao Luan arrived at Shuilian Cave.
Sun Wukong handed the Elixir to her: "Tell Zhang Liang to refine a few more batches, and distribute them to the peoples of various nations."
"This type of Elixir is simple to refine, and Zhang Liang has the diagrams; send those as well."
Ao Luan, upon hearing this, showed a look of surprise: "To give it away? Is that really a good idea?"
"It's fine."
Sun Wukong nodded, then added, "You must also tell humanity that this comes from the benevolent decree of the Jade Emperor, ordering it to be developed at Huaguo Mountain."
Ao Luan's expression suddenly darkened.
"Big Brother."
She asked, "If the Jade Emperor isn't helping you, why should you go out of your way for him?"
With just a few words, Sun Wukong had led Ao Luan to surmise the entire situation.
This took Sun Wukong by surprise.
"The Jade Emperor has his considerations," said Sun Wukong.
Ao Luan furrowed her brows: "Big Brother, you're too kind-hearted."
This Elixir must be Big Brother's idea; what does it have to do with that Jade Emperor?
"I disagree."
Ao Luan objected to this plan.
Sun Wukong looked at her; it was rare for him to see Ao Luan oppose him, which he found somewhat refreshing.
"Then I'll have someone else do it."
Sun Wukong did not insist on persuading Ao Luan.
