The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 76: The Immortal of Colossal Spirit

"But speaking of which..."

Sun Wukong chewed as he threw three Immortal Pills into his mouth: "Lord Lao Zi's promotion of rice cultivation really is terrifyingly fast."

"Lord Lao Zi is no ordinary Immortal."

Immortal Zhen Yuan answered.

The most difficult part of rice promotion is the technical advancement, especially the production of the three-line hybrid rice parents.

The approach of Lord Lao Zi is simple and violent; he directly used the Immortal Law to send out the already cultivated parent rice, which is tantamount to giving Taoists twenty years of the fairies' achievements.

As long as the Taoists learn the technology of pollination and seed production, the speed naturally becomes much faster.

Moreover, with the followers of The Three Pure Ones spread across the Four Great Continents, it shouldn't take a few years for rice to be fully promoted.

"By doing this, Lord certainly got the Jade Emperor's approval."

Immortal Zhen Yuan said that the simple and violent approach of the Heavenly Palace could not be used by Huaguo Mountain.

Of course... this cannot be considered technical advancement.

The human's parent rice comes from Huaguo Mountain, and if the hybrid rice wishes to improve further in the future, it still needs to be researched at Huaguo Mountain.

However, Immortal Zhen Yuan is somewhat worried that Sun Wukong letting Lord Lao Zi promote rice cultivation might offend many Immortals in the Heavenly Palace.

Immortals are aloof and arrogant, with a high view of themselves; promoting rice cultivation seems like a worldly task to them.

With Lord Lao Zi's noble status, his condescension to reveal his presence might make many Immortals harbor discontent towards Sun Wukong.

Immortal Zhen Yuan wanted to remind Sun Wukong, but just as he turned around, he saw Sun Wukong passing a few Immortal Pills over.

"Immortal, for you, don't tell anyone."

Sun Wukong said: "That stupid ox has fallen asleep."

Immortal Zhen Yuan turned his head and indeed saw the green ox well-fed and sound asleep.

He did not decline, took the Immortal Pills, and began eating: "You're more generous."

"Immortal," Sun Wukong did not stop talking even with his mouth full: "Have you heard of drug resistance?"

Of course, Immortal Zhen Yuan hadn't heard of it: "What's that?"

"It means that if you take too much medicine, it might not work anymore."

Sun Wukong swallowed the Immortal Pills into his stomach and said: "Do you think after eating so many Immortal Pills, they will gradually lose their effect on me?"

Immortal Zhen Yuan had the urge to hit him.

But he probably could not beat him...

Thinking of this, Immortal Zhen Yuan didn't say anything.

He snatched a few more Immortal Pills and ate them resentfully.

A gourd full of Immortal Pills was quickly eaten up by the two of them.

Sun Wukong let out a satisfied burp, with a flash of light in his eyes, seemingly a streak of golden light shooting from the top of his head to his feet.

Immortal Zhen Yuan was startled, and upon looking again, he saw that Sun Wukong had changed once more.

Although the change was slight, it couldn't escape the notice of Immortal Zhen Yuan.

"Noble Brother," Immortal Zhen Yuan asked: "What have you cultivated now?"

"Vajra Body,"

Sun Wukong answered.

He had eaten Flat Peaches, drunk the Imperial Wine of the Jade Emperor, and eaten Immortal Pills from Lord Lao Zi, in addition to Ginsengfruit before, hardly differing much from the records of the Heavenly Book.

Over the years, Sun Wukong has been using the Three-flavored Fire to refine his body, coupled with the Merit Qi; today, the results have finally been achieved, attaining the Vajra Body.

Vajra Body is an adjective, indicating that Sun Wukong's body has become invulnerable to blades and spears.

"It's nothing much," said Sun Wukong: "Many Immortals can do it."

"You are different."

Immortal Zhen Yuan shook his head, Sun Wukong was born from an Immortal Stone; after becoming a Merit Immortal, his Innate Divine Power gradually recovered. He already had a Vajra Body from the start.

He was naturally invulnerable; did he still need to cultivate some Vajra Body?

"Noble Brother, I would like to try your Vajra Body."

Immortal Zhen Yuan said.

He just wanted to give Sun Wukong a good beating.

Sun Wukong nodded.

"Then give it a try."

He also wanted to know how strong his body had become.

Shuilian Cave had some weapons that could be used directly, but Immortal Zhen Yuan knew those weapons would have no effect on Sun Wukong.

He took an Immortal Hammer out of his sleeve.

"Why are you bringing a hammer?"

Sun Wukong was quite surprised.

Immortal Zhen Yuan smiled, "I guessed there would be a chance to use it."

He looked at Sun Wukong's head and raised the Immortal Hammer, smashing down with all his might.

With a "boom", Immortal Zhen Yuan flew backward.

Sun Wukong touched his head, which didn't seem very painful.

"Immortal, you should go slower. The faster you go, the less likely you can hurt me."

He called out loud.

"Why didn't you say so earlier!"

Outside, Immortal Zhen Yuan's voice could be heard, "Wait, my hammer is broken. I'll go have Lord Lao Zi hammer it a few times, and I'll come back to find you in a few days."

His presence faded.

Sun Wukong shook his head and turned to look at a nearby Green Ox.

It seemed that the vibration had woken it up, and it was looking at Sun Wukong with an incredulous gaze.

Sun Wukong turned his eyes to the Green Ox's horns, "Can you try ramming me with your horns?"

The Green Ox hastily shook its head.

What a joke, if the Immortal Hammer couldn't harm a single hair on you, what if my horns break!

Sun Wukong felt somewhat disappointed.

"Monkey King!"

An angry figure burst into Shuilian Cave.

Sun Wukong looked up and saw it was The Immortal of Colossal Spirit.

"Why are you bruised and swollen?"

He asked.

"Isn't it all because of that collision with Immortal Zhen Yuan!"

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit thought to himself. He had just arrived at the entrance to Shuilian Cave when he encountered this disaster — and he dared not disrespect Immortal Zhen Yuan.

Immortal Zhen Yuan is the Ancestor of Earth Immortals, but Sun Wukong is only a newly-appointed Immortal Official, and even his rank is very vague. The Immortal of Colossal Spirit certainly isn't afraid of him.

"I want to change jobs," The Immortal of Colossal Spirit said with suppressed resentment: "How could the Bear Demon King deserve to be treated as equal to me?"

"It's not that you're treated equally; you are alone and powerless, lower in status than he is."

Sun Wukong spoke coldly: "If you want to change jobs, why not go back to the Heavenly Palace?"

He didn't like The Immortal of Colossal Spirit and even felt he had made a mistaken decision.

Sun Wukong had originally sent The Immortal of Colossal Spirit to the mortal realm to show goodwill to Tota Li Heavenly King.

What he hadn't anticipated was that after The Immortal of Colossal Spirit came to Huaguo Mountain, he sabotaged all the work arranged for him and even tried to influence the other Immortals.

With his own abilities, The Immortal of Colossal Spirit didn't have the guts to do evil in front of Sun Wukong — without doubt, he was following orders.

Sun Wukong later found out that this was Heavenly King Li's command, intending to deliberately create trouble in his interactions with the Immortals.

The deep hostility of Heavenly King Li towards Sun Wukong surprised him.

But beyond the surprise, he also lost the desire to make amends — instead, he reassigned The Immortal of Colossal Spirit to guard the safety of Huaguo Mountain alongside the Bear Demon King, responsible for the security outside the island as well.

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit spent every day at sea inspecting passing ships, unable to return to Huaguo Mountain for several months, and his heart filled with rage.

But upon being told by Sun Wukong to go back, he immediately became scared.

Returning to the Heavenly Palace in this manner surely meant punishment by Heavenly King Li.

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit clenched his teeth, left Shuilian Cave, and went to think of another solution.

After he left, Ao Luan came walking back in.

"Brother," said Ao Luan: "Immortal Master Erlang hopes that we can send some people to Guanjiang Island."

"He should have said it earlier."

Sun Wukong nodded.

Immortal Master Erlang wants to learn the technology of Huaguo Mountain and also doesn't want to be commanded by the demons. He has been tinkering on his own at Guan River Mouth for a year, and obviously, the results are limited.
