The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 56: Preaching

Longevity Mountain and Huaguo Mountain became neighbors, however, Immortal Zhenyuan couldn't muster any joy after being struck down.

He decided to close his doors for cultivation, determined to surpass Sun Wukong.

"Immortal, how should your disciples be arranged?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Whatever."

Immortal Zhenyuan uttered a word and then swept away with his horsetail whisk.

The disciples stood there, stunned.

Sun Wukong smiled: "Then let's go!"

With a casual wave of his hand, the disciples felt the world turn upside down, and when they steadied themselves again, they were standing in front of a courtyard.

"Such powerful Divine Skills!"

The disciples were both shocked and in awe of Sun Wukong.

A few little demons at the entrance of the courtyard saw Sun Wukong and immediately knelt on the ground.

"Go call the Jade-faced Fox out."

Sun Wukong said.

The little demons immediately ran into the courtyard, and soon, a mature and gorgeous woman came out.

"Great King."

She saluted Sun Wukong: "How come you have time to stop by today?"

Pointing at the disciples, Sun Wukong said: "These are all Immortal Zhenyuan's apprentices; I'm entrusting you to take good care of them."

The Jade-faced Fox was the manager of Liufu Island; Sun Wukong had his own ulterior motives, secretly telling her how to treat the apprentices.

The Jade-faced Fox was quick-witted and immediately nodded: "Rest assured, Great King."

She greeted the disciples with a smiling face and then courteously took them to tour around Liufu Island.

Sun Wukong turned around and returned to Shuilian Cave.

"Brother."

Ao Luan was waiting for him in Shuilian Cave: "Lately, there seem to be immortals appearing around Huaguo Mountain."

"Never mind them."

Sun Wukong nodded, he had already known.

Sun Wukong carefully observed Ao Luan, whose cheeks blushed under his gaze: "Brother, why are you looking at me like that?"

"Ao Luan, you have toiled for Huaguo Mountain, neglecting your cultivation."

Sun Wukong said.

Ao Luan felt somewhat disappointed.

"I've been trying hard."

She never neglected her cultivation; in fact, she seized every opportunity to cultivate in order to catch up with Sun Wukong.

However, the affairs of Huaguo Mountain were too numerous and still prevented her from focusing solely on cultivation.

"I understand."

Sun Wukong nodded, the primary reason for Ao Luan's stagnation was his hands-off management.

But Huaguo Mountain would soon undergo great changes, and if Ao Luan wanted to continue ruling Huaguo Mountain, she couldn't convince everyone with her current level of cultivation.

"Come with me."

Sun Wukong walked outside Shuilian Cave: "I will teach you the Tao."

Ao Luan was stunned.

"The Tao?"

After finally coming to her senses, Ao Luan quickly followed Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong sat cross-legged on the mountain peak.

Ao Luan couldn't believe it and walked over.

This was the most beautiful spot of Huaguo Mountain, facing the sea, where spring was warm and flowers bloomed.

Ao Luan had always envied Immortal Zhenyuan discussing scriptures and the Tao with Sun Wukong here, and now she too was invited by Sun Wukong.

She walked slowly over and found that the mountain peak was shrouded with a fragrant aroma; the very air was imbued with spirituality due to the two immortals discussing the Tao here year-round.

Ao Luan walked to Sun Wukong's left, just about to kneel down, when suddenly something whipped her back.

She cried out and turned around to look, only to discover it was a vine whipping her.

Immortals do not casually yield their seats for preaching to others.

"Damnable Immortal Zhen Yuan."

Ao Luan ground her teeth, this was Immortal Zhen Yuan's seat.

She drew the treasure sword from her waist, chopped off the vines in a single slash, and sneered coldly before sitting down again.

No sooner had she sat down than Ao Luan sprang up with a "aiya," as the grass beneath her suddenly turned into a dense bed of fine needles. If she hadn't reacted swiftly, she would likely have been pierced through and through.

"Stingy bastard, you win this round!"

In frustration, Ao Luan walked to Sun Wukong's right side.

As she sat down to the right, she heard a sigh.

"Amitabha, benefactor, this spot belongs to this humble monk."

Ao Luan dug her ear, feigning deafness.

Just as she was about to ask Sun Wukong to begin his lecture, that voice suddenly started chanting scriptures.

"Guanyin Bodhisattva, when practicing the profound Prajna Paramita, perceived that all five aggregates are empty, thus overcoming all suffering. Shariputra, form is no different from emptiness..."

Veins popped on Ao Luan's forehead.

"No suffering, no cause, no cessation, no path; no wisdom and also no attainment. With nothing to attain, the Bodhisattva depends on Prajna Paramita, and the mind has no obstacles. Without obstacles, there is no fear..."

"Ah! Annoying bald donkey!"

Ao Luan, unable to contain her irritation, stood up angrily: "How can he be as persistent as a fly?"

After being away for so many years, when did that monk cast a spell here?

"Brother."

With no other choice, Ao Luan spoke to Sun Wukong, "I have nowhere to sit."

Sun Wukong gave a wry smile.

"Then you should revert to your dragon form."

He pointed with his hand, and mist began swirling around the mountaintop.

Upon seeing this, Ao Luan, delighted, transformed back into her dragon form, circling the mountaintop twice, then positioned her head toward Sun Wukong.

She didn't need to exert herself to stay afloat, as the mists were capable of supporting her body.

"Thank you, brother."

Ao Luan expressed her gratitude.

"What a fine White Dragon."

Sun Wukong admired the White Dragon before him and inwardly praised it.

In her original form, Ao Luan was a White Dragon. Even though Sun Wukong was not of the Dragon Clan, he could still sense her elegance, and her scales gleamed like white jade.

"Let's begin!"

Sun Wukong started his lecture. His expression was solemn, and Taoist Characters turned into golden letters, flying out from his mouth, twinkling and shining in the air, leaving Ao Luan utterly astonished.

"Concentrate."

Sun Wukong flicked his finger, and the distractions in Ao Luan's mind vanished instantly. She began to listen intently to Sun Wukong's lecture.

The Taoist Characters, one by one, settled upon Ao Luan, disappearing from sight.

The lecture went on for days and nights without pause.

Yet, as simplistic as the Tao is, comprehension also depends on one's aptitude. Ao Luan, after all, was not as quick-witted as Sun Wukong and could not take in another character after several days.

Sun Wukong looked at Ao Luan, who was immersed in the Tao yet unable to extricate herself, and sighed inwardly.

The Tao is like a dune; even a single grain of sand can contain an entire world. But if one cannot break free, even with the attainment of Dao Fruit, it is hard to achieve the grand Tao.

"Very well, let me give you some hints."

During the depth of night, with a thought from Sun Wukong, a breeze arose from nowhere.

Among the rustling sounds, a leaf fluttered up and landed on the eye of the White Dragon.

The White Dragon shook violently, then opened its eyes.

"Brother."

She looked at Sun Wukong, shocked.

Sun Wukong nodded with a smile: "Your aptitude is not bad."

Ao Luan's face flushed with embarrassment; Sun Wukong was telling her that she was blinded by a mere leaf.

"It's alright, let's continue."

Sun Wukong resumed his lecture.

At times, the moon shone bright above, and stars twinkled in the sky. Ao Luan emerged from blindness, gazing once more at Sun Wukong, and felt an utmost blossoming within her heart.
