The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 473: The Great Calamity Begins

The transformation of the Buddha Beads caught the attention of the Three Realms.

Sun Wukong convened a meeting of Immortals in Wanling City, and after two days of discussion, they decided to accelerate preparations for war and maintain vigilance.

Beyond that, they had no better strategy to counter.

Yet, everyone understood that the great calamity was no longer far off.

The Immortals' sense of urgency rose, and they each returned to their domains to prepare for battle.

After their departure, Lord Lao Zi found Sun Wukong and asked him for some of his hair.

"My hair?"

Sun Wukong was startled.

"In all the Three Realms, there's no better material than your hair."

Lord Lao Zi said, "It's unsurpassed for creating Immortal Artifacts and Barriers to resist the great calamity."

"How do you know it'll be useful?"

Sun Wukong inquired.

"We have already tested it."

Lord Lao Zi replied, "The Immortal had me add a few of your hairs to his Buddha Dust, and his Divine Skills greatly increased."

"..."

Sun Wukong fell silent.

But in the end, he pulled out dozens of Monkey Hairs to give to Lord Lao Zi.

Since his enlightenment, he has had 84,000 individual hairs, each capable of transforming on a whim, multiplying from one hair to ten, and from ten to a hundred, totaling over a million variations.

Removing dozens of Monkey Hairs had little effect on Sun Wukong; they would regenerate in a short period of time.

Since the great calamity demanded it, he certainly couldn't withhold his assistance.

Not just him, but beings from all over the Three Realms were gearing up for a large-scale war effort.

After parting with Lord Lao Zi, Sun Wukong proceeded to Langya Blessed Land.

He took out Jingu Bang and the Palm Leaf Fan, ready to sit and cultivate, when he suddenly remembered he had forgotten to commission Lord Lao Zi to create an Immortal Artifact for Ao Luan.

Sun Wukong gazed at the Palm Leaf Fan.

As if sensing something, the Palm Leaf Fan flew a little further away.

"You..."

Sun Wukong spoke: "What if I give you to Ao Luan, would that be alright?"

As soon as he asked, the Palm Leaf Fan rushed away with a 'whoosh', and Jingu Bang buzzed twice and followed suit.

"It seems the answer is no."

Sun Wukong had to give up; he knew Lord Lao Zi would lend a helping hand.

Sure enough, several months later, Lord Lao Zi came to him again for Monkey Hair.

Lord Lao Zi used the Monkey Hair in his creations and found its power exceeded all imagination.

Sun Wukong's Monkey Hair could change a thousand ways, its Divine Skills invincible, and the Immortal Artifacts it made were indestructible, surpassing all other materials by more than a hundredfold.

Over the years, Lord Lao Zi came to Sun Wukong repeatedly for more hair, eventually getting a hundred strands at most.

Sun Wukong took the opportunity to request that he forge an Immortal Sword for him to nurture in Langya Blessed Land.

Years passed, and one night, as the Jade Emperor was playing chess with the Grandmaster, he abruptly felt a premonition.

"It seems it's almost here."

He stood up, putting the chess piece down.

"What's coming?"

The Grandmaster had never seen the Jade Emperor leave a game midway and was surprised.

"The great calamity—it's almost upon us."

The Jade Emperor said with a grave expression and left Tongming Hall, heading towards the Thirty-Three Layered Heaven.

In Lingshan, Buddha rose to his feet almost at the same moment, announcing, "The great calamity is near; we can't just look after ourselves!"

"Buddha."

The many Buddhas were shocked: "Isn't it not time yet?"

"It is time."

Buddha shook his head.

The Three Realms had predicted that the great calamity would appear in several decades, but evidently—the Buddha Beads thought otherwise.

Buddha and the Jade Emperor reached the Thirty-Three Layered Heaven simultaneously, only to find that Sun Wukong had already been aloft above Tiangang City, issuing commands.

Inside Tiangang City, people orderly prepared for battle, as droves of Heavenly Soldiers and Generals rushed to the borders of the realm.

"He is indeed ahead of our predictions."

The Jade Emperor and Buddha thought to themselves, their Mana no longer a match for Sun Wukong's.

When Sun Wukong had finished giving his orders, the Jade Emperor and Buddha flew over.

"How much longer until the great calamity?"

"In less than three days."

Sun Wukong answered, "Ring the alarm bells!"

The alarm bells rang out across each of the Four Great Continents.

In the Heavenly Palace, Mortal World, and Netherworld, everyone heard the sound, gripping their hearts tightly.

Thousand-mile Eye was on alert in the Asura Realm for the Buddha Beads.

In the blood-red space, the humanoid being was already enveloped in flames, brilliant and blazing, obfuscating its original form.

A Divine Talisman was slowly flying out from the being.

Thousand-mile Eye blinked, thinking he had seen it wrong. Looking again, a new Divine Talisman had indeed appeared before the Buddha Beads.

The Divine Talisman was golden yellow, radiating endless majesty and terror.

As it emerged, the aura of the Buddha Beads surged, becoming even more radiant.

"Could it be a seal?"

Thousand-mile Eye was horrified; this Divine Talisman was not accounted for in any prediction of the great calamity.

"Dreadful."

He immediately flew towards the ground, no matter what, the connection between the Divine Talisman and the Buddha Beads needed to be thoroughly investigated.

The Divine Talisman had already flown out.

Cracks formed on its surface.

Then, as if time had stopped, a thunderous "boom!" echoed through the Chaos, and a blinding light was released by the Divine Talisman, illuminating countless miles of Chaos in a white expanse.

Thousand-mile Eye briefly lost all sight.

When he regained his vision and looked back to the sky, countless specks of light had appeared before the Buddha Beads, streaking across the sky towards the Asura Realm.

The great calamity had begun.
