The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 30: Ocean Stabilizing God Needle

Sun Wukong was visiting the Crystal Palace.

Immortal Zhen Yuan went to listen to the teachings of The Three Pure Ones, he took the opportunity to visit the Dragon Palace to see the Dragon King, hoping to get some information on marine medicines, but found it unexpectedly empty.

"Dragon King isn't here?"

Sun Wukong was surprised: "Where did he go?"

"He's gone to visit the South Sea."

A few princesses giggled and clung to him saying, "Immortal, let us accompany you for a walk."

"Alright."

Sun Wukong nodded.

The princesses happily led the way.

Meanwhile, the East Sea Dragon King appeared at Huaguo Mountain.

Knowing that Sun Wukong had gone to the Crystal Palace, the Dragon King couldn't help but laugh: "What a coincidence."

"I'll wait here for him to come back."

The Dragon King continued: "Take me to see Huaguo Mountain."

Ao Luan nodded: "Then I'll take you to Liufu Island."

Transforming into humans, she and the Dragon King arrived at the small island on the west side of Huaguo Mountain.

Liufu Island is the island with the most transactions of spiritual objects in Huaguo Mountain. There are several main streets filled with demon vendors, voices hawking their wares and bargaining fill the air, and many human merchants also come here to buy spiritual objects.

This is also a commercial island where little demons learn about trade and service. It is no less prosperous than the port towns of Huaguo Mountain. Spiritual objects produced by the other four small islands are also tested in the market here.

"Why is this island called Liufu Island?"

The Dragon King felt as if he had arrived at a human marketplace: "Who named it?"

"I did."

Ao Luan dodged a little demon and said: "I decided the names of the five small islands, my elder brother doesn't care about these things."

"I see."

The Dragon King noticed some vendors frying food in iron pots: "Are they cooking?"

"Yes." Ao Luan nodded: "Is it strange?"

"There are a lot of iron pots here?"

The Dragon King curiously asked: "Do you have salt?"

"Of course."

Ao Luan laughed.

She understood why her father was surprised; iron pots and salt are not accessible to every commoner, as iron production is low, mostly used for making weapons, and salt is also uncommon.

In the Four Continents, many human countries strictly control both salt and iron, but it's not rare here.

"Now the production of salt and iron in the Four Continents has increased."

Ao Luan smiled: "The demons of Huaguo Mountain have also mastered various technologies of Heavenly Craftsmanship."

Sun Wukong often felt that the demons were slow learners, but Ao Luan thought they were quite fast.

"Father, it's almost noon."

Ao Luan spoke: "I'll take you for some food first."

"Alright."

The Dragon King smiled and nodded.

Therefore, Ao Luan led him into a restaurant and chose a seat by the window.

"I'll go tell them to bring out their signature dishes."

Ao Luan said.

"Go ahead."

The Dragon King waved his hand, then curiously looked around the restaurant.

The restaurant was busy, with little demons carrying dishes and drinks zipping up and down, and laughter and clinking of glasses could occasionally be heard from upstairs.

A rabbit demon approached.

"Old sir, are there only two guests?"

The rabbit demon asked while holding a teapot.

The Dragon King nodded, and the rabbit demon then poured two cups of tea and walked away.

"Why are all the waiters here female demons?"

The Dragon King thought, finding it a bit odd.

Despite the unique scene of running female demons with rabbit tails, it unexpectedly felt appropriate.

And also, the demons in the restaurant maintained similar transformation states.

What they occasionally talked about were topics like technology, which even the Dragon King couldn't understand.

Although he didn't understand, the Dragon King could sense an enthusiastic and happy vibe from their conversations, as if every demon was living joyfully.

"Lu'er has already surpassed me."

The Dragon King thought.

He knew that the demons of Huaguo Mountain were managed by his daughter, and the quality of demons here made even the Dragon Palace look inferior.

Not just the Dragon Palace, probably no one under the sky was better at managing than Ao Luan.

Over the years, she had learned so much from the Wise Monkey.

He just didn't know when he could celebrate her wedding.

The Dragon King stroked his beard, secretly looking forward.

Soon, Ao Luan came back.

"Father, I've ordered the dishes, do you want to go to the private room?"

"No need."

The Dragon King waved his hand: "It's a bit hot here, the private room would be unbearable."

"Hot?"

Ao Luan glanced at the row of runes hanging under the eaves and laughed: "It turns out the Wind Talisman is broken."

The Wind Talisman is a recently created spiritual object, still unstable, and seems ineffective when too many people are around.

"Father, wait here, I'll get you some cold food."

Ao Luan saw a vendor outside the restaurant, told the Dragon King, and then stepped out to trade with the vendor.

The demon opened the wooden box beneath it and took out a few items resembling ice, handing them to Ao Luan.

Ao Luan walked back with the ice-like items.

"These are called wood ice."

Ao Luan passed the wood ice to the Dragon King: "Brother seems to really like these and often secretly buys them to eat."

"Really?"

The Dragon King took them, imitating Ao Luan's action, placed the wood ice in his mouth, and gently bit down.

"This..."

"How is it? Does it suit your taste?"

Ao Luan smiled.

The Dragon King chewed on the wood ice, nodding in satisfaction.

The Dragon Clan has a natural fondness for chilled foods, but such items are not seen in the Dragon Palace.

The Dragon King ate several pieces of wood ice, feeling a cool sensation throughout his body.

He felt somewhat unsatisfied: "How is this made?"

"We use runes to create a freezing box."

Ao Luan said, "If you put sugar water and fruit juice in it with a grinder, it will freeze—my brother calls this an ice pop."

However, the demons are more accustomed to calling it wood ice.

The Dragon King lamented, "The craftsmanship of Huaguo Mountain has surpassed that of humans."

Even in Chang'an City, such wood ice would not appear in the market.

"These items have only appeared in recent years."

Ao Luan said.

The Dragon King immediately became interested: "Tell me more."

"Because we have money now."

Ao Luan said, "Having money means you can buy a lot of things."

A few years ago, the markets on the Six Fortune Islands were just like those of humans.

It was only after making money from Spiritual Objects that demons began to radically change their thinking.

They started to value the creation of Spiritual Objects.

Sun Wukong had Ao Luan spend money to purchase large quantities of goods from human countries for widespread use in Huaguo Mountain, including salt.

Salt was not initially valued by the demons, but after eating it for a while, they could not do without it.

When humans significantly raised the price of salt, Huaguo Mountain reduced their purchases—they had to start producing salt themselves.

After several years of improvements in craftsmanship, the salt from Huaguo Mountain now exceeded demand and was even sold to humans.

This is one of the most typical examples.

"Trade will motivate demons to create Spiritual Objects."

Ao Luan said admiringly, "Brother had foreseen this long ago."

Now the demons understood why Sun Wukong wanted to trade with humans.

Trade allowed craftsmanship to improve, and the advancement in craftsmanship enabled the demons to experience a life they never knew before—no one wants to go back to the past now.

The changes in Huaguo Mountain in recent years had accelerated rapidly, so much so that Ao Luan could hardly imagine what it would be like in a hundred years.

They were walking a path unknown to the rest of the world.

"The Wise Monkey truly has a far-reaching vision."

The Dragon King felt deeply moved; who could have imagined that when Sun Wukong united Huaguo Mountain, the demons would be transformed into their current state?

"When I see him this time, I must earnestly seek his advice."

The Dragon King couldn't help but think.

Meanwhile, in the Dragon Palace of the East Sea, Sun Wukong stood beneath a pitch-black iron staff.

"This is a peg used by Dayu during his management of waters, defining the depths of rivers and seas, it's made of Divine Iron..."

The princesses seemed to be vying for favor, eagerly introducing it to Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong never expected that these princesses would bring him to see the Ocean Stabilizing God Needle.

The Jingu Bang was within arm's reach, and Sun Wukong could not help but extend his hand to wipe the seaweed off it.

The Ocean Stabilizing God Needle did not react, but it seemed to convey an emotion.

Sun Wukong shivered inside, as if he understood something.

He secretly made a hand gesture.

"Immobilization Spell."

With this spell, the princesses' movements and thoughts halted.

Sun Wukong secretly activated the Formless Divine Skill, awakening the wildness in his heart.

His aura gradually became intense, as if he had transformed into a different person, his body enveloped in a faint red light.

A turtle, originally sleeping peacefully on the ocean floor, suddenly shuddered and fled like a rabbit.

Sun Wukong looked up.

The wildness that had been hidden for decades suddenly erupted, causing the Ocean Stabilizing God Needle to subtly vibrate.

The Ocean Stabilizing God Needle began to glow.

After the initial shock, Sun Wukong suppressed his wildness.

Immediately, the Ocean Stabilizing God Needle dimmed again.

"...So that's how it is."

Sun Wukong realized in his heart.

The Ocean Stabilizing God Needle wasn't waiting for him as he was now, but for the free and uninhibited Great Sage Equalling Heaven.

It was not yet time to take it.

"Release!"

Sun Wukong lifted the Immobilization Spell.

The princesses, completely unaware of what had happened, continued to introduce the Ocean Stabilizing God Needle to Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong listened to them quietly, then left together with them.

The Ocean Stabilizing God Needle was still waiting for him. Although it wasn't the right time yet, he would eventually come to take it.

Sun Wukong had such a premonition.
