The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 246: Fulfilling Desires (Request for Monthly Tickets)

The great tree spread its canopy, and the leaves gently swayed, transforming into refreshing green light that diffused outward.

With the tree as the center, the green light began to proliferate and spread in all directions, causing a mystical resonance that caught the attention of all the struggling immortals.

The green light floated onto their bodies, merging and disappearing within them.

Everyone's mana surged, and a new divine skill appeared in their minds out of nowhere.

"The Clone Technique?"

Although they did not understand how this divine skill came to be, the immortals were overjoyed.

They all simultaneously cast the divine skill, their figures splitting from one into two, and then from two into four.

In an instant, the sky became densely packed, with countless immortals bumping into each other as they failed to control their clones.

The golden tidal wave formed by the Buddha soldiers momentarily paused.

"What is happening!"

Originally facing a single opponent, suddenly they were faced with two.

"So that's it."

Immortal Zhenyuan looked at another version of himself, "This is the Wanling Immortal Path."

He knew that after Sun Wukong attained his Dao, he had eighty-four thousand hairs, each capable of transformation, responding to his mind.

Sun Wukong used the great tree to share his strongest power with them.

"The Wanling Immortal Path can actually be taught to others."

Immortal Zhenyuan found this intriguing.

"We can hold them off now."

The fighting spirit of the remaining immortals blazed fiercely.

The chaos from the Clone Technique lasted only for a brief moment. The full sky of immortals and heavenly soldiers and generals blocked the Buddha soldiers, forming a more tight-knit defense.

The brilliantly colored immortal light gained the upper hand, gradually suppressing the Buddha light.

Beneath the Buddha Country, the golden sutras flickered in their flow, losing their advantage in the vast expanse.

The Wanling Country's numerical disadvantage was filled by the use of the Clone Technique.

"I really underestimated Sun Wukong,"

Tathāgata thought as he witnessed all this.

The immortals of Wanling Country were not many. Excluding the heavenly soldiers and generals, there were only dozens with great divine skills, and they shouldn't have stood a chance against his Buddha Country.

But clearly, he had thought too simply.

"Had I known, I should have brought more people."

Buddha thought. He had already made full preparations, bringing many people, yet he still underestimated Sun Wukong.

Though the Wanling Immortal Path had not yet fully formed, it significantly increased Wanling Country's resistance.

The time left for Buddha was also limited. He needed a swift and decisive battle before Sun Wukong established a new Heavenly Dao.

"Make way!"

Tathāgata suddenly commanded, and a path was cleared through the swarming Buddha soldiers.

Tathāgata launched another palm toward the sky.

This grab, fierce winds arose with astonishing momentum, and the enormous hand, like a mountain, passed unhindered through the Buddha soldiers who couldn't evade, aiming to capture all resisting forces in Wanling Country in its grasp.

"Great Saint!"

Lord Lao Zi of the Wanling Hall shouted, "Quick, stop the Buddha!"

"I'm ready,"

Sun Wukong's body shimmered with light.

He didn't wish to use it now, but Buddha had left him no choice.

A golden light detached from Sun Wukong's true form, left the Wanling Hall, swelled with the wind, transforming into a figure hovering in the air.

Floating above the clouds higher than the immortals was a beautiful female figure.

In the wind, unfolded golden wings stood like a mother on the front line facing Tathāgata.

"The Great Saint's mother!"

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit, who had experienced the havoc in the Heavenly Palace, immediately recognized her.

The heavenly soldiers and generals were frightened out of their wits, scattering wildly, yet they forcibly halted.

"Wait a minute, we are not enemies now!"

"She's protecting us!"

They stopped in their tracks and looked at the woman.

Indeed, they saw her gaze full of hostility directed at the enormous Tathāgata.

The woman raised her arms, and with a loud boom, Buddha's palm was held firmly, unmoving.

"A Merit Incarnation?"

Tathāgata smiled, saying, "A mere child's play."

While Sun Wukong indeed had much merit, Buddha was confident that his own merit surpassed his.

With tens of thousands of years of accumulation, across the Three Realms, no one's merit could exceed his.

"Go!"

Buddha infused merit into the giant palm, igniting it with golden flames, heavily pressing downward.

The Merit Incarnation began to buckle.

Sun Wukong's voice rang out.

"Tathāgata, you might want to look around."

The Merit Incarnation was suppressed by the giant palm, and the merit forming its enormous body sprayed out, with flames raging across the sky, landing on some Buddha soldiers.

At that moment—

The Arhats, Bodhisattvas, and Buddha soldiers all ignited with scorching light.

The sky echoed with cries of agony.

Buddha felt surprised by this sudden change, and his expression turned solemn.

This was indeed the most troublesome aspect: the merit of Sun Wukong carried a transformative curse, one that others could not extinguish.

"Everyone, come to me,"

Buddha could only tighten his grip, drawing all the Merit Fire, including that Merit Incarnation, into his palm.

Countless Buddha soldiers emerged from his palm to battle the incarnation, failing to harm him.

However, with Buddha holding up the Buddha Country with one hand and gathering the incarnation with the other, it made it difficult to continue fighting.

"Jade Emperor,"

Tathāgata looked toward the east, saying, "Stop spectating and come out."

At the very center of the eastern sky, a beautiful silver ring appeared at some point.

The silver ring rapidly expanded, driving Buddha light westward, illuminating Wanling City like a silver mirage.

The sky was divided into east and west by a line.

The silver mirage in the east showed countless reflections of Immortal Mountains, while the Buddha Country in the west had innumerable sutras flowing along the glazed buildings.

Immortal Mountains and Buddha Country echoed each other from a distance and stretched into the distance.

After overcoming the moment of chaos, the immortals looked up at that absolutely spectacular sky.

The scene was so magnificent that everyone's breath halted.

Sun Wukong's heart sank.

He had long understood that to change the Heavenly Rules, in addition to his Jade Seal, he needed the cooperation of both Tathāgata and the Jade Emperor.

"Jade Emperor, are you also denying me success?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"You are changing the Heavenly Dao,"

a youthful voice replied, "This is not reform, this is subversion."

This was a struggle for the Orthodox Dao, and he had to stop it.

"Burn that tree!"

With a command from the youth, the silver ring's Immortal Sect opened, and boundless immortal light descended.

The overwhelming golden and immortal light surged by the immortals of Wanling Country like a swarm of bees, impossible to stop.

Defeat came swiftly—

The golden and immortal light surged to the base of the great tree.

"Talismanic Diagrams and Records."

In the next moment, a bamboo slip suddenly flew out of the Wanling Hall, blossoming with countless rays of light.

People's eyes seemed to be blinded, and as they regained their senses, everything was clear in front of them; the Wanling Hall and the great tree had completely vanished.

"What kind of cultivation technique is this?"

The immortals were astonished.

"Your Majesty, what should we do..."

They turned around, only to find the Jade Emperor gone as well.

"Your Majesty has already entered,"

Shangqing flew over and said that the moment the bamboo slip appeared, the Jade Emperor had rushed into the Wanling Hall.

He was the only one who went in.

"There's no need to worry about Your Majesty now,"

Shangqing looked at Lord Lao Zi from afar.

A hundred years of time, for an immortal, was but a fleeting moment.

However, his brother now stood on the opposite side.

Since the appearance of Sun Wukong, life in the world could no longer go as desired.
