The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 232: A Different Style

The spaceship arrived at Wanling Country as night fell.

From afar, Sweeping Star saw glowing ribbons appearing in the distance, as if the Milky Way had descended onto the earth.

But as she drew closer, she realized it was a massive city with orderly and complex roads and building clusters.

Wanling City was like a giant hand that wrapped around the plains and mountains.

"This, this is…"

Sweeping Star had never seen such a vast city and found it almost breathtaking.

"This is Wanling City."

Sun Wukong said.

Over the years, the architecture of Wanling City had sprung up like bamboo after a spring rain.

Unnoticed, the city had expanded more than tenfold compared to more than a decade ago, surpassing any country on the Western Continent.

Sweeping Star stared blankly down at the land.

As the spaceship gradually entered Wanling City, it was like entering a starry sky, with the lights on the ground illuminating the mountain ranges, stretching into the far unseen horizon.

A light moved through the forest and mountains.

"What is that?"

Sweeping Star noticed that strange thing.

"Dragon Car."

Sun Wukong said again.

"How come you know so much?"

Sweeping Star turned to look at Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong shifted his gaze forward.

Three enormous floating objects entered their view.

Sweeping Star was quickly drawn to them as well.

They were three floating cities: Mountain and Sea City, Longevity Mountain, and a city high in the sky shaped like a Taiji diagram.

"This design is not bad."

Sun Wukong thought.

That city is where Emperor Donghua and Great Emperor Zhen Wu worked, and it was also the center for Wanling Country's personnel and judiciary.

Even under the night sky, there were many spaceships traveling between the three floating cities, like small dragons shuttling in an orderly fashion.

Sweeping Star was amazed: "How many people does Wanling Country have?"

"Now it's over eight million."

Sun Wukong answered.

He was aware of Wanling Country's development data each year.

But having not truly experienced the real changes in Wanling Country for more than a decade, Sun Wukong was as surprised as Sweeping Star when he saw it today.

"It has changed a lot."

He felt both happy and a bit unfamiliar at the same time.

The Floating Spaceship arrived at the port of Wanling City, brushing past another departing ship.

Sun Wukong saw its sails flicker with light, forming a beautiful nine-tailed fox.

Sun Wukong immediately felt a sense of familiarity.

After the ship reached the port, he and Sweeping Star debarked.

Sweeping Star swept her gaze around and quickly spotted two familiar figures.

"Thousand-mile Eye, Sharp-Hearing Ear."

Surprised, Sweeping Star walked over: "Are you here to pick me up?"

"Yes."

Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear stepped back in unison, keeping a distance of ten meters from her.

"Wu Xiang…"

Sweeping Star, along with Sun Wukong, followed Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear to Wanling Hall.

"Stop!"

Two Immortal Officials stopped them.

"Miss Ao Luan has ordered, only two guests are allowed in."

The Immortal Officials said to Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear.

The two were more than happy to stay away from Sweeping Star and quickly took their leave.

The Immortal Officials opened the gate, Sun Wukong stepped forward, Sweeping Star paused for a moment, then followed him in.

"You seem to be very familiar with this place?"

Sweeping Star asked.

"Mhm."

Sun Wukong looked ahead.

Not far away, Ao Luan stood there with a smile on her face.

Behind her were the peaceful and calm Di Si officials.

Seeing the two enter, Ao Luan suppressed the urge to rush over to them.

"Welcome back, elder brother."

The Quiet and Peaceful Er Si quickly reacted, immediately cupping his hands in greeting: "Welcome back to the palace, Great Saint."

Sweeping Star was stunned.

She looked at Sun Wukong with an expression as if she had seen a ghost.

"Are you surprised?"

Sun Wukong asked her.

Sweeping Star nodded.

Sun Wukong then sighed: "What a long dream indeed."

After that statement, his body transformed into light and disappeared.

Sweeping Star reached out to touch, but there was nothing there.

She suddenly felt somewhat lost.

Another ray of light appeared within the palace.

Sweeping Star turned her head and saw a figure seated on the throne in front of her.

That golden silhouette, with eyes ablaze like raging flames, just one glance could make one shiver.

"Great Saint."

Sweeping Star knelt on the ground.

Suddenly, she understood everything.

Sun Wukong observed Sweeping Star with his Eyes of Golden Flame.

With his will returned to his true self, Sweeping Star's powers held no secrets before him.

He could clearly see the dark flames surrounding her, currently blocked by the runes, but if the runes were undone, they could burn those nearby.

"So that's it."

Sun Wukong had a plan in mind: "Your misfortune is quite special, I don't have a complete solution for it at the moment."

He said: "In the future, you can come here daily to change your rune."

Sweeping Star nodded.

Sun Wukong then asked: "What do you wish to do in Wanling Country?"

No sooner had he asked that he laughed: "Nevermind, take some rest first, and tell me later if you have any desires."

This matter was not urgent.

Sun Wukong instructed the Quiet Official to take Sweeping Star down to settle in.

"Elder brother."

Ao Luan asked: "Why did you even bring back the dream?"

Sun Wukong could have simply unraveled Zhuang Zhou's butterfly dream, but he deliberately returned with the identity of Wu Xiang, such an elaborate plan, Ao Luan couldn't comprehend.

"The identity of Wu Xiang will still be useful."

Sun Wukong answered.

He did not want to waste Wu Xiang's identity; he needed people to know of Wu Xiang's whereabouts.

The night passed, and Immortal Zhenyuan came to visit Wanling Hall with seven Spider Demons.

"Junior brother, I invite you for a drink."

He brought along several pots of Immortal Wine.

Sun Wukong, who showed up only occasionally over the years, naturally had his reasons known to his close ones.

Learning of Sun Wukong's return, Immortal Zhenyuan immediately came over to celebrate.

Apart from him, there was Master Puti, and even Elder Jin Chan, brought along by Emperor Donghua.

Grandmaster and Emperor also brought wine, and everyone celebrated together.

Elder Jin Chan didn't like to drink, so the Spider Demons kept pouring him tea, cup after cup.

"They are still the same."

Sun Wukong thought to himself that there was something amiss with the tea.

Sure enough, before long, Elder Jin Chan got drunk.

"Big brother Kite is drunk."

Once the Spider Demons saw Elder Jin Chan was drunk, they immediately wrapped him up with spider silk.

"We'll take him back to sleep."

They cheerfully carried the drunk Elder Jin Chan away.

Sun Wukong ordered the Quiet Official to follow them and check.

Before long, the Quiet Official returned to report that the Spider Demons were flying kites outside.

"Outrageous, they always cause me trouble!"

Immortal Zhenyuan was furious and stood up saying: "I'm going to scold them!"

Then, he strode out and commenced flying kites with the Spider Demons.

"As is the master, so are the disciples."

Grandmaster shook his head and sighed.

Emperor Donghua cast a surprised look at him and Sun Wukong, glancing a few more times.

These two had quite different styles.
