The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 119: Clever Mouse

Able to match the power of the Jingu Bang, this bamboo slip must surely be a Heaven and Earth Treasure.

After these words appeared on the bamboo slip, Sun Wukong was even more certain of it.

"I must go back and consult with Lord."

He put away the bamboo slip, and soon after bidding farewell to Ao Moang, he flew towards Wanling Country on a Somersault Cloud.

Midway through his journey, he paused, remembering there were some individuals he had yet to deal with.

"It seems there's no harm in leaving them hanging for a few days."

Sun Wukong thought to himself, and still prioritized returning to Wanling Country.

He found Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad in the Medicine Valley, busy with alchemy.

"Lord, take a look at this."

Sun Wukong handed the bamboo slip over.

"Talismanic Diagrams and Records."

Upon receiving the bamboo slip and catching sight of the words on it, a sharp gleam flashed through Lord Lao Zi's eyes: "How did this come into your possession?"

"I seized it from the Gouchen Heavenly Venerate."

Sun Wukong explained the situation to Lord Lao Zi.

"You're quite astute."

Lord Lao Zi smiled: "This thing is of great benefit to you."

He began to tell Sun Wukong the origins of the bamboo slip.

In the primal attests long before countless great calamities, when life in heaven and earth was in a state of Chaos and ignorance, time flowed boundlessly on.

Our ancestors were at a loss, yet bit by bit, they began to understand the cycles of sunrise and sunset, the waxing and waning of the moon, the shifts in seasons and climates, and the arrangement of stars in the sky.

They observed the nurturing and growth of nature's myriad things, pondering over the principles of the creation and formation of all things. Using inductive methods to organize, they classified and quantified similar and akin phenomena.

Eventually, they created the Taiji Eight Diagrams Map, interpreting the process of heaven and earth's transformative origins.

And the Talismanic Diagrams and Records preceded even the creation of the Taiji Eight Diagrams Map, recording the primal era's evolution of all things and the establishment of the Immortal Dao's decrees and orders.

"This Talismanic Diagrams and Records has come to you at just the right time."

Lord Lao Zi then returned the bamboo slip to Sun Wukong: "It will greatly aid you in shaping the Wanling Immortal Path. If you can study it with a tranquil mind, you will surely gain insights."

Sun Wukong's struggle was to establish a new Immortal Dao order, and Talismanic Diagrams and Records could teach him how to do that.

"Thank you, Lord."

Sun Wukong received the bamboo slip: "So, how should I refine it?"

"It cannot be refined."

Lord Lao Zi shook his head: "Talismanic Diagrams and Records is born of heaven and earth, belonging to no one, Gouchen Heavenly Venerate was merely its temporary guardian."

He continued with a smile: "Now that it has come into your hands, it means you are fated to have it, there's no need to return it to Gouchen."

"I understand."

Sun Wukong nodded; he never considered returning the bamboo slip to Gouchen after all he had done.

Afterward, Sun Wukong bid farewell to Lord Lao Zi and returned to Wanling Hall to study the Talismanic Diagrams and Records.

He studied it for several days, yet Sun Wukong didn't gain much.

The bamboo slip was no ordinary object, the amount of information it contained was beyond imagination and difficult to comprehend.

It seemed truly destined for Sun Wukong, as the bamboo slip would respond to whatever Sun Wukong asked.

But except for his own name in text, the language used in Talismanic Diagrams and Records was all Rune imagery, with each image capable of a thousand different interpretations.

Even with Sun Wukong's intelligence, he couldn't immediately deduce the precise meanings of the images.

He could only put the bamboo slip away for the time being, and called upon Emperor Donghua to once again fly to the wilderness.

The Immortals trapped by the Barrier on the ground show fear at his arrival.

"Emperor."

Sun Wukong turned back to look at the Emperor, who nodded slightly and with a wave of his right hand, countless papers drifted down from the sky, floating before each Immortal and every Heavenly Soldier and General.

This was the contract for enlisting in the Immortal Records of the Western Continent.

"You have already renounced Heavenly Palace, your fate uncertain, better to join under the banner of Wanling."

Sun Wukong proposed.

Though he regretted the Immortals from the West Sea getting away, there were nearly ten thousand Heavenly Soldiers and Generals here, a force to be reckoned with.

"Outrageous!"

An Immortal erupted in anger: "You tell us to join and we just join, who do you think we are!"

Many Immortals had renounced the Immortal Records of the Heavenly Palace out of loyalty, certainly not to be swayed by a mere word from Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong looked over, and yet that same Immortal shrank back and lowered his head.

"If you don't sign, so be it."

Sun Wukong said: "I will not make a move against you either."

The Immortals were shocked, this was beyond their expectations.

The Great Sage Equalling Heaven who once stirred chaos in Heavenly Palace, could he truly be such a kind-hearted good person?

Sun Wukong turned to look at Emperor Donghua, who nodded slightly and took back the Immortal Records.

Immediately, over twenty barriers on the ground vanished.

"Ha ha ha!"

Marshal Tian Peng exercised his freed body; his bindings were gone.

"Thank you, Great Sage!"

Marshal Tian Peng bowed to Sun Wukong in gratitude.

Sun Wukong slightly nodded, recognizing that this Marshal Tian Peng was indeed the second disciple mentioned in the Heavenly Book.

He was the first to sign his name in the Immortal Records.

Those who signed would attain their freedom.

"This isn't fair."

Upon seeing this, the other immortals couldn't help but exclaim, "Great Sage, you said you won't strike us again, let us go quickly!"

Sun Wukong let out a cold laugh, "Did I ever say my previous actions don't count?"

The immortals were stunned.

Sun Wukong didn't need to strike again, as he already had.

"Emperor, come ask again in half a year."

He turned and said to Emperor Donghua.

Emperor Donghua nodded with a smile.

Hearing this, the immortals inside the barriers instantly panicked.

"Half a year, wait, Great Sage! Are you locking us up for half a year?"

Sun Wukong shook his head: "Not half a year."

He replied, "It's five hundred years."

The duration of those barriers was five hundred years.

"I look forward to seeing your spirit."

Sun Wukong said.

The immortals were speechless.

"Wait!"

At this moment, the Independent Immortals on the ground broke into an uproar.

"Great Sage, we are willing to join Wanling Country, why don't we have Immortal Records?"

When Emperor Donghua was distributing the Immortal Records, he did not include those Independent Immortals and Taoists.

Sun Wukong looked at them: "I won't accept you."

The Independents turned pale.

"What are you going to do to us?"

A cool voice asked.

Sun Wukong shifted his gaze to the Scorpion Demoness.

The Scorpion Demoness involuntarily shivered.

"That will be up to you."

Sun Wukong replied, glancing at Lady Earth Flow.

Lady Earth Flow's eyes whirled around and suddenly, she knelt on the ground, saying, "As you wish."

In his heart, Sun Wukong laughed.

"This sly rat."

He dispelled the barriers surrounding Lady Earth Flow.

"Sister."

The Scorpion Demoness inquired, "What's going on?"

"Sister, Buddha no longer needs us."

Lady Earth Flow explained.

The Arhats, realizing they were unable to destroy the barrier, quickly fled, clearly abandoning them to their fate.

"There's only one path left for us."

Lady Earth Flow stated.

The Scorpion Demoness and the other Independents pondered for a moment and then one by one, they realized and bowed to Sun Wukong.

With a wave of his hand, Sun Wukong dispelled their barriers.

"I remind you not to play any tricks."

He said coldly, "Your names are in my hands; no one can escape my control."

The Independent Immortals prostrated themselves on the ground, silent.

Their thoughts varied, but Sun Wukong saw everything without pointing it out.

Afterward, Sun Wukong, along with Emperor Donghua and the newly inscribed immortals, left.
