The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 197: Worry-Free About Everything (Three More in the Following Days)

Kunlun Mountain, shrouded in mist, a Heavenly Ladder winding its way up into the clouds.

"Change all beings of the Three Realms?"

Step by step, the Jade Emperor climbed upwards, unable to contain his laughter, "My Imperial Brother truly has confidence."

The Immortal following behind him nodded in agreement.

"And then, what else did he say?"

The Jade Emperor continued to ask.

"Nothing much else." The Immortal replied, "Mostly words of encouragement for learning and unity."

"He is no simple figure; using the strength of all, one can be unbeatable in the world, using the wisdom of all, one fears neither Immortals nor Buddhas—indeed, well said."

The Jade Emperor commented with a smile.

The Immortal was taken aback: "Your Majesty, how did you know of these words?"

"I have more than one agent in Wanling City."

The Jade Emperor answered, casually on the surface but with a warning intent.

The Immortal felt a chill in his heart and quickly bowed several times.

"My Imperial Brother seeks to unlock the paths of the Immortal Dao with the wisdom of the multitude, yet I already possess three thousand Immortal Paths."

The Jade Emperor continued, "He hasn't even found the path; how can he defeat me?"

The Immortal realized that the Jade Emperor must have seen the wavering in his heart.

"Your Majesty speaks profoundly."

The Immortal quickly responded.

Over the past decade in Wanling City, he indeed started to waver, vaguely no longer wanting to be a pawn of the Jade Emperor.

"Leave now."

The Jade Emperor gestured for him to go.

After the Immortal left, the Jade Emperor reflected deeply.

Why does Sun Wukong always love to pry at his corner?

This chess piece could betray him at any moment; it seems another arrangement of agents is necessary.

As the Jade Emperor was thinking this, he suddenly felt a chill under his feet and looked down to see his trousers leg wet with dew.

A strange feeling surged in his heart.

"How long has it been since I did this?"

The Jade Emperor thought, how many years has it been since his body touched the rain and dew of the Mortal World?

He raised his head, the wind blowing towards him, also something he hadn't felt for a long time.

"I too have been drawn to the Mortal World."

The Jade Emperor felt the air of the Mortal World.

Some feelings, forgotten for far too long, were making their way back to his body.

"Your Majesty."

A figure flew up from behind.

The Jade Emperor turned around, "Gold Star Taibai, did you find Heavenly King Li?"

"No."

Gold Star Taibai shook his head, "He's not among this batch of seekers."

"Is that so?"

The Jade Emperor's gaze passed the overlapping mountains, looking towards the foot of Kunlun Mountain miles away.

Thin rain was falling there, and amidst the mist, seekers kneeled layer upon layer on the ground, a sight as magnificent as the sea.

Close to the school opening in Wanling Country, the Heavenly Ladder would open for the first time today, and the seekers were waiting for the Immortals to descend.

"How many seekers are there in this batch?"

The Jade Emperor asked.

"A hundred thousand."

Gold Star Taibai answered, "There will be even more next year."

The Heavenly Ladder opens only once a year, and presently many people are unaware of it.

But after this year's opening, aspirants from the Four Great Continents seeking the Immortal Dao will come in an unending stream.

"In five hundred years, we can cultivate a million Immortals."

The Jade Emperor said with a smile, "By then, even if Wanling Country has a population of a hundred million, they will have to bow down as subjects."

"That's true, but Your Majesty,"

Gold Star Taibai cautioned, "Don't forget the Great Saint."

Regardless of how Wanling Country develops, of course, it cannot compare with the Heavenly Palace, but if a conflict were to arise again, Heavenly Palace might not necessarily have the advantage, considering Sun Wukong's greatest card is himself.

Even with a million more Immortals in the Heavenly Palace, in Sun Wukong's eyes, they'd just be an issue of a few strikes.

They have yet to find a way to deal with Sun Wukong.

The Jade Emperor sighed.

"Since my youth, I have cultivated and endured one thousand seven hundred and fifty calamities, managing the supreme Heavenly Dao; if not for the severe injuries from several great calamities, damaging my Immortal Body, why would I fear that Sun Wukong?"

He had been a Great Divine Power before several major calamities.

However, now, for some reason, although his body was still blessed by the Tao, his divine skills had diminished.

"If only I could reshape my Immortal Body."

The Jade Emperor felt a stir in his heart, and a light flickered within him.

It was the glow of the Heavenly Venerate Seal.

The Jade Emperor reached out his hand, looking at the seal glowing in his palm.

He was spiritually connected with the seal, and quickly understood what it wanted to convey.

"Does my Immortal Body need to connect with the Mortal World?"

The Jade Emperor showed surprise.

"Your Majesty."

Gold Star Taibai looked over curiously, "What happened?"

"I have found a way to cure the Immortal Body,"

the Jade Emperor said.

Gold Star Taibai was overjoyed: "Congratulations, Your Majesty."

"I have been away from the human world for too long, and the Heavenly Dao is displeased."

The Jade Emperor put away the Jade Seal; his Immortal Body had long been healed, but the heaven and earth did not fully recognize him after being reborn.

"I need to take the form of a mortal and endure hardships in the Mortal World to heal the wounds."

The Jade Emperor answered.

"When will Your Majesty start the journey?"

Gold Star Taibai asked.

The Jade Emperor shook his head: "This is the Tao; we cannot rush, we must wait several more years."

"Good."

Gold Star Taibai nodded, thinking this also allowed for better preparation.

The two looked again at the foot of Kunlun Mountain, at the endless crowd that would become newcomers of the Immortal Realm.

"Apart from innate talent, morality is extremely important,"

the Jade Emperor said. "Once the Heavenly Ladder is opened, we must not allow those with ill intentions to pass through."

"Yes."

Gold Star Taibai nodded.

"Then let us begin!"

The Jade Emperor gently waved his hand.

In an instant, three thousand rays of light flew down from the sky.

Above the majestic Kunlun Mountain, the sky was instantly enveloped in light, and auspicious clouds shone brightly.

One by one, Immortal Mountains descended from the heavens, floating mid-air. From the ground looking up, they were majestic and spectacular, with glittering palaces standing on each mountain.

That was the Three Thousand Immortal Paths, each path shimmering with light as Immortals descended to the mortal dust.

"In the first ten years, open up three hundred Immortal Paths."

The Jade Emperor lowered his hand and said, "Do not rush."

"Yes."

Gold Star Taibai nodded.

He joyfully watched the Immortal Mountains in the sky; each palace within was a vast training ground for Immortals, where Immortals taught the Immortal Dao.

After the Three Thousand Immortal Paths descended onto the mortal dust, the entire Heavenly Ladder began to shimmer.

"The spiritual network technology of Huaguo Mountain, once learned, is indeed useful."

The Jade Emperor smiled at this scene, "And we are even more adept at using it."

"Yes."

Gold Star Taibai nodded.

Heavenly Gods all around combined their barrier spells with the spiritual network, creating this magnificent sight.

The three thousand Floating Immortal Mountains, nearly an impossible feat in Wanling City, were effortlessly achieved by the Heavenly Palace.

At the foot of Kunlun Mountain, the seekers looked up at the full sky of Immortal Mountains and were overwhelmingly excited, kneeling and bowing their heads.

Once the Heavenly Ladder was opened, they could be screened through it and ascend directly to the corresponding Immortal Path.

"Why has the Heavenly Book Pavilion also descended?"

The Jade Emperor looked curiously towards a palace among the clouds; he had not ordered the Heavenly Book Pavilion to descend.

As per his agreement with Sun Wukong, the Heavenly Palace was also to preserve the knowledge of the Immortal Dao.

All the creations of the Heavenly Palace over the years were stored inside that palace.

"Is this also the influence of the Heavenly Rules?"

The Jade Emperor slightly frowned, watched for a moment, but then withdrew his gaze.

It didn't matter; the place was heavily guarded, and it was impossible for ordinary people to enter.

Even if they did, it wouldn't matter—as long as it wasn't Sun Wukong, he had nothing to worry about.
