The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 118: Come On!

Musical notes, originally just simple records, could now transmit sounds after Sun Wukong left.

The demons looked up at the twinkling notes.

Ao Luan issued the first battle command of Huaguo Mountain.

Her command was so simple, condensed into a phrase — "Defend Huaguo Mountain."

A loud laugh echoed through the heavens.

The first to respond was the Golden Winged Great Peng with double wings on his back.

He soared into the sky, skimming violently through the black clouds and rain; his wings were tough as iron, the raging wind howled, and without using any spells, countless Heavenly Soldiers fell like raindrops.

"Brother Peng!"

The Bear Demon King followed closely behind, attacking before the thick clouds could enter Huaguo Mountain: "Aren't you in a bit too much of a hurry?"

"Hahaha!"

The Golden Winged Great Peng laughed heartily.

"I really underestimated the Monkey King!"

He continued to laugh uproariously while unrestrainedly wielding his divine skills. No Heavenly Soldiers and Generals could obstruct his path.

To defy Heaven, Sun Wukong actually harbored such lofty aspirations!

This was much more interesting than other demons.

Indeed, he was no ordinary demon!

The Golden Winged Great Peng broke through the clouds and charged to the Nine Heavens, diving down towards the leading commander, Deng.

After years without a proper fight, it was finally time for him to show off his might!

The sky was shrouded by dazzling light, enveloping the South Heavenly Gate.

Even under the night sky, it shimmered brightly.

In Chang'an City, a child lay sprawled against the window, staring blankly at the sky.

"Mommy, what is that?"

He asked.

"I don't know."

His young mother was embroidering by candlelight. She glanced at the glowing monkey image on the desk; ever since the light appeared in the sky, the monkey image had been glowing, as if echoing in response.

"Although I don't know," the mother said with a smile, "it definitely isn't something bad."

The South Heavenly Gate, where the battle still raged on.

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit held the Xuanhua Axe horizontally before him, and the charged feathers of light crashed against it but could not breach the axe's defense.

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit was about to breathe a sigh of relief when he suddenly realized that the connection between him and his Xuanhua Axe was rapidly disappearing.

"What's going on!"

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit was startled; his Xuanhua Axe was gradually turning into ordinary iron.

Gust after gust of roaring wind swept past him, directly bombarding the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals behind him.

Countless people screamed, and the light from numerous Immortal Artifacts dimmed.

A streak of golden light broke through the intensively fortified battlefield and landed right next to Sun Wukong.

This was a Monkey Spirit. It placed a Flat Peach next to Sun Wukong, then dissolved into a speck of fur and returned to his body.

Sun Wukong picked a Flat Peach from the small mountain of them.

While watching the distant sky, he calmly ate the peach.

Behind him, the sky was filled with Immortal Officials and Heavenly Soldiers and Generals readying their best weapons and Immortal Laws, battling fiercely with the myriad of sword lights.

Amidst countless rays of light and shouts, he turned a deaf ear and did not bother to look back even once.

He was conversing with another presence within his heart.

"Do not be arrogant."

The voice inside cautioned him.

"The Immortals are arrogant, but you have it in you too."

"If you cannot restrain your pride and impose your will upon this world, you will lose," said the voice.

"If you're not arrogant, no one in the Three Realms can stand against you."

Sun Wukong bit into a Flat Peach.

"No problem,"

He said.

He knew exactly what he needed to do, the extent he should do it, and what he ultimately aimed for.

With this understanding, no one in this world could be his adversary.

"Just wait and see my answer,"

He confidently declared.

The voice inside him faded away.

Soon, only the last Flat Peach remained next to Sun Wukong. He reached to pick it up when suddenly, he had an impulse.

He looked down.

Tens of thousands of demons broke through the barriers and entered through the South Heavenly Gate.

"Great King!"

The four elder monkeys saw him, knelt on the ground, both hands holding the shimmering battle armor.

"Ao Luan gave it to you, huh..."

Sun Wukong thought, and then looked at these fully-armed demons.

"Do you know this is a path to death?"

He asked.

The demons nodded, answering in unison, "We know."

"Aren't you afraid?"

Sun Wukong asked again.

The demons shook their heads, "To fight beside the Great King, what is there to fear in death!"

"Well said."

Sun Wukong smiled slightly, "Unfortunately... I don't want you to die, all of you go back."

The demons were shocked, "Why would the Great King say such a thing?"

"I alone am enough."

Sun Wukong said. From the beginning, he never intended to rely on others.

Sun Wukong reached out with a point, and those shining pieces of clothing flew up, settling down beside him.

He stopped talking and began to eat the last of the Flat Peaches.

He sat upon the South Heavenly Gate, his legs swinging.

That instant, four old monkeys remembered that day.

That fearless, mischievous Stone Monkey leaping toward the waterfall off the cliff.

That Sun Wukong sitting on the tree, gazing freely up at the sky.

"That's the Great King!"

"Yes... it's the Great King..."

The four old monkeys exchanged glances, making a decision.

"Let's go back."

The old monkeys turned around, facing the astonished demons, and said, "We're going back to protect Huaguo Mountain!"

With their former Great King returned, there was nothing to worry about.

The demons saluted Sun Wukong and flew towards the Lower Realm.

Sun Wukong finished the Flat Peach, tossed the core away, and turned to look at the suit of armor beside him.

"This getup... never thought there would actually be a day I'd wear it..."

So be it, then—indulging his wild side for once should be fine.

Sun Wukong stood up, the golden crown, armor, and cloud shoes seemed to respond, swirling up around his body.

He stepped forward, cloud shoes covering his feet, crown and helmet upon his head, golden armor adorning his body.

Sun Wukong adjusted the crown.

"Not bad."

He conjured a mirror to take a look.

His first time wearing this suit, but not bad, quite spirited.

Sun Wukong put down the mirror and lifted his head again, with golden flames flowing smoothly in his eyes.

"Come back."

He uttered.

That instant, the Merit Incarnation turned its head, seeming to realize what was about to happen.

She suddenly dissipated, turning into an endless, brilliant light that hung behind Sun Wukong.

The Immortal of Colossal Spirit and other Heavenly Soldiers and Generals were caught off guard, seeing the woman disappear so suddenly, they all were greatly surprised, looking astounded at Sun Wukong.

Why did he suddenly withdraw her?

What is he planning to do?

Before the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals could react, Sun Wukong uttered again.

"Come!"

This word traversed through space.

That instant, an earthquake occurred at the bottom of the East Sea.

The Crystal Palace violently shook.

"What's going on!!"

The East Sea Dragon King couldn't keep his footing.

"Your Majesty, something's wrong!"

The Prime Minister Turtle ran in, but due to the shaking, he fell over and rolled into the palace in his shell.

"That Ocean Stabilizing God Needle, it... it won't stay locked anymore..."

"Didn't we secure it with ten thousand chains? How can it not stay locked!"

Aoguang walked out of the Crystal Palace, only to see the Ocean Stabilizing God Needle, wrapped in layers of chains, suddenly light up.

That glow was so bright that it made him cover his eyes.

Once his eyes adjusted to the light, a gold beam burst forth from the seabed, carrying a terrifying force as it surged towards the surface!

Aoguang's face went pale.

"Immortal Master Erlang, you dare to steal my Sea Suppressing Treasure!"
